You’re still complaining about this? Seriously, when was the last time a show has done this? The Owl House ended in 2023. It’s time to move on.

ummmm but wasn't that show always like that?

The last show to do this that I can think of is Adventure Time.

I think the big hero 6 cartoon went in that direction

There was an educational show the teacher showed us in the second grade. Season 1 had an arc about 2 kids looking for their grandpa or great uncle. Season 2 was completely episodic. I forget the name of it.

Dilbert started with a tight arc about workplace drama and developing a product and then the later episodes become random shenanigans that also barely have much to do with office humor

fricking Dilbert, first season was a serialized show with each episode going further and further with the creation of the ThrustMaster and then the next season ditches that to go with episodic style
both seasons are still excellent but I missed that aspect of season 1

    Theory
    >A lot of the shows coming out post Adventure Time want to do lore, serialized stories, and character arcs but pitching to execs is always hard
    >So instead of pitching a multi episode storyline focused series, the creators pitch the basic status quo and a simple set up to trojan horse their actual goals and ideas
I don't like it, but I do understand. If we had an equal amount of episodic comedies and story driven shows, this wouldn't be an issue.

another thing could just be that they don't know how the show will do once it airs so it's safer and easier to plan out an episodic style show than plan out a multi season plot with characters that gets cancelled after 1 or two seasons.

You don't know what a pitch is.

      A better explanation:
      >Show has a premise and formula
      >New hack writers want to "expand"
      >Creators back away while new writers and staff bastardize the project
Look at Seinfeld or Always Sunny vs animated "comedy"

        >Seinfeld or Always Sunny
You're just talking about seasonal rot.

Can't speak for Always Sunny, but Seinfeld was consistently great for the first seven seasons, with season 7 being the best. Then Larry David left and it immediately dropped in quality. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as funny as even season 1 and didn't feel like Seinfeld anymore. At least Larry came back for the finale.
