From the comics I always got the impression that he effortlessly clings to walls with his talons, it just tends to leave marks sometimes if he has some momentum or grabs on too hard because they're ridiculously sharp to a molecular level. Them focusing on how he doesn't cling to walls on the movie seems like a slight miss imo. Not a mean-spirited like his almost villain-like monologue, just a misinterpretation of something they ironically wanted to make accurate to the comics.
