I imagine Superman would be even stronger if he was black.

    Bait used to take effort.

I’m not baiting. It’s a dumb question, sure, but for all the pseudo-science explanation that DC Comics gives for their heroes and villains, some of it should make sense.

Alright. I believe you. But you of course understand why I was skeptical.

The answer is that the science for Superman doesn't really make fricking sense. Remember that red suns FRICK up superman, so he's dependent on something with the frequency that they never really explain in detail, and isn't important.

So a writer could make black ones stronger or weaker, or most likely, ignore the fricking question entirely because it will send the book to poltown.

That would presume that the part of sunlight that matters is the visible light spectrum, which means that lightbulbs would probably work. Don't turn this into some weird BBC fetish thread OP.

Huh? I’m just taking source material I read many years ago, like Superman’s dad explaining that Kryptonians are stronger on Earth because our sun is younger and brighter than Krypton’s own sun.

Dark skin doesn't tend to absorb light well which is why Snowy northern countries advise black people to consume additional vitamin D.

Isn't the point of melanin to protect skin from sunlight and the reason why Europeans are white is to absorb more of it

Wouldn't it be the other way around? Blacks get less nutrients from sunlight not more.

... Wouldn't the opposite make sense since black skin dispures it more?

      These.

No, melanin absorbs UV rays. It’s why darker-skinned people are less susceptible to skin cancer.

That's because it disperses it which means less is actually being absorbed by the body, hence why darker skin is less efficient at getting vitamine d from sunlight.

You might want to check your logic there.
Also wear sunscreen anytime you plan to hang out in the sun regardless of your skin color.

That implies that evolution is optimal, or that melanin/pigmentation is a significant enough factor in absorbing sunlight to make an individual exponentially more or less powerful. Ontop of ignoring the fact that Kryptonian's biology probably developed with Yellow Sun being wholly irrelevant for the span of millions if not billions of years. It's a vestigial trait that just happened to become relevant because circumstance, It's basically like if our tonsils gave us superpowers when we ate an extinct food instead of just occasionally getting infected and killing us.
So shut the frick up, Neil.

Yes. According to science Superman should be black. But comic writers are scientifically illiterate.
