I would love to see this outperform Helluva Boss. I want to see it, imagine the autism from the cartoon “community”
I kind of want this to get made. I don't even like the idea, I've read a couple of Enter's scripts some years ago and it reads like a badly written horse show episode, but everything surrounding this series, from its production to its reception to the drama to the porn would be a 24/7 entertainment shitshow. It would be one of the most bizarre shows with one of the most bizarre communities if it ever got made.
I remember some essay videos describing how Enter might’ve written this show from anger about his past, does he have that anger anymore?
Ok, I have no experience with Enter other what I've got from this board, but I have done some research and what I found is;
A. Enter is a severe autist with major parental issues (don't know what they are, maybe someone knows) and I don't if they're real or made up in his head. As such, he hates adults and "authority" figures and views childhood as sacred. He's also got a major beef with the Autism Speaks foundation.
B. His autism means he's not socially functional enough to understand humor and as such, alot of his reviews revolve around complaining about characters being mean, aka jokes.
So, with these 2 points in mind, here's where Growing Around came from: he watched a Shorty McShorts' Shorts cartoon called Flip-Flopped, which has a similar theme, and got mad because he says they did it wrong. And by mad I mean autism mad. That's it. An turbo autist decided make his own thing about kids bossing around adults with hookers and blackjack, minus the hookers and blackjack, all because he has mental issues and a random cartoon no one remembers pissed him off.
Here's that cartoon for proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjtMJLqNbWQ&list=PLkn8WWhJ55SRuUwK7y5dYijxK0ytZyjYG&index=11&pp=iAQB
If anyone has more info or I missed something, feel free to add.
Please stop trying to psychoanalyze Enter. Nobody but a select group of autists cares. Enter is not a particularly interesting or extraordinary personality by lolcow standards.
Anon, you're in a Growing Around thread on a subsection of a Liberian figure-skating forum dedicated to discussing children's cartoons. If that select group of artists is anywhere, it's here.
***autists
fricking autocorrect
asiaticmoot add an edit button I'm begging you
I forgot to mention that he's also asexual, because he's too autist to understand sex, or that's what he says, and he puts alot of crossdressing in growing around because something something that what kids do maybe by his logic.
He ain't chris chan, thank goodness cuz we don't need another one of those, but like dobson he's a funny cautionary example.
In a way, he’s worse than Chris Chan because he has an actual fanbase with some influence. Enough to harass writers
There are still morons b***hing about the 10-year old drama of his underage fans "harassing" writers?
It was a bad scene that I just don’t want repeated. That shit has consequences
You're autistic yourself to care about this 10 years later.
You’re not wrong
Too bad
That all sounds good. Speaking of, you know the twilight episode “It’s a Good Life?” I’d recommend reading the original short story which is somehow freakier. Might serve as some good inspo.
Do you have any work to show now from any project?
>Do you have any work to show now from any project?
I created two base characters for my original project, and right now I'm in the middle of texturing and creating hair for the female. I'm almost done with the texturing here, just trying to make her skin look less plastic-y by tweaking her procedural skin texture in blender and trying to sculpt and bake down a normal map for her.
I've been side tracked because I've been trying to figure out what kind of "near-future" uniform the characters should wear, but I think I've settled on a mixture of something Overwatch like and Starship Troopers like.
Anyway, my ultimate goal is to make independent cartoons, and I think I'm well on my way even if they aren't perfect.
That looks horrifying, but I’m confident you have the ability to make something great out of it
Its because I'm shit at texturing, and this is still a work in progress. I'll render one with a better texture in Daz Studio.
You know, the worst part about 3D is that it looks like shit until you're mostly done with the whole thing. And honestly, if I had the money, I'd just pay someone else to texture it too. I'm thinking about just putting my meshes in Daz, but I have to learn to texture sometime, so why not now?
For anyone curious, here's a render with a Daz3d texture I bought, but its the same mesh I made converted to a Daz 3d genesis 8 morph. To be clear, I could make that cartoon I want right now. And I might just do it with Daz textures because there's nothing wrong with them, but I absolutely want to learn how to texture models myself, so that's why I'm still practicing.
That looks much better. Keep practicing
In all honesty, it seems like you're on a decent track. As far as the shape goes for that face, it's pretty goddamn good, and once it gets textured it'll probably be a lot better. I'd just skip over making something related to this Enter crap and find your own content, he's not worth even the most mild spite creation.
Most autistic people aren't the savants that media portray them to be. There are a lot more Mr Enters, who use their autism less for development and more for obtuse obsessions. It's possible he has some learning disability, but as is could just as easily be chalked up to his autism and not having the greatest family life.
>Most autistic people aren't the savants that media portray them to be.
It's not that I expect him to be a savant, but more that he comes off as notably low IQ in general. Like it's not just that he's a barely functional autist, but that he might be clinically moronic on top of it, which is why he writes at a 3rd grade level and has the emotional regulation abilities of a toddler.
Haven't watch him for years is he getting better or worst?
Depends on what you like. He’s gotten a lot tamer heh
in his reviews, but they’re much more boring and way too frequent now.
He finally caught the message that doing nothing but Animated Atrocities made him look like a prick, but he's just not very good at Admirable Animation shit so he's just boring. Also his voice is annoying.
Didn't he had a feud with former employer?
I think a falling out moreso
Oh, don't worry. I spend most of my days working on my own personal stuff. I do side stuff to give my brain a break while learning new things, so I don't think working on a GA clone as a side thing would be too bad for me. However, if it ever got to be too much of a work load, I'd drop the side projects in an instant and continue to work on my main projects. There's absolutely nothing that will stop me from making my own cartoon, and now that we can do it independently, its only a matter of time before I have my thing on youtube for all to see.
Also, thank you for the complement on her face most of all. I literally spent months working on her face because I can't create female faces to save my life. I spent real time and money on it, so to see complements related to the face just lets me know I've actually managed to succeed in that art endeavor.
damn bro.
I don't say this on Cinemaphile much but I really respect your effort. Keep on shining, you diamond in the rough.
Thanks for the complement. Here's the male mesh I was talking about. Again, converted to a Genesis 8 male mesh with a texture I bought from Daz. I'll upload a render of the original mesh in blender with a texture I made myself.
I usually get positive responses from people when I show my work, but I have a horrible habit of never actually uploading things online.
Do you have a YouTube?
Not yet, but I want to make one. I just don't know what I'd do with it besides upload the occasional short.
Reviews?
Probably. But I've been thinking about how I can make my reviews stand out from the rest. Perhaps my indie cartoon will just be the main thing uploaded to the channel, and I wouldn't need voice actors to start. I still want to practice creating 100% of the assets myself though, so we'll see where I am in a month or so before I launch anything.
Alright. Where can we contact you on Cinemaphile for updates.
Also, you need to be provocative when doing reviews. Something needs to catch the attention of the masses. So either do your cartoon first or, unironically, something like this https://youtu.be/-PyVFYLZTms?feature=shared
>Alright. Where can we contact you on Cinemaphile for updates.
I don't always use Cinemaphile, but I think I could occassionally pop into those "work on your work" or "show off your work" threads. I want to because I've been developing these skills for a while now with no feedback, and I want that to change. I have an issue of not knowing what people want to see, and because of that I just go "eh" and not upload things.
And thanks for the advice. I just need to make some monster assets, and some clothes assets, and I'll use Daz textures I bought to just make the process faster. But that doesn't mean I'm giving up on making my own textures, and I'm DEFINITELY not giving up on taking Enter's stupid idea and making a cartoon with that, too!
I’m really looking forward to it now and I’ll see you there.
If you can’t afford them, just do your own voice work if possible. Or do it the silent film way of cue cards or subtitles, give it a turn-of-the-century yet mystic edge as you play vaporwave over it
>I have an issue of not knowing what people want to see, and because of that I just go "eh" and not upload things.
The cool part about doing art for a hobby is that you don't need to care about what people want. You can just make what you want and enjoy doing. If people happen to like it, that's great. And if not, you still made something you're proud of, right? It's a win-win for you.
Whose worst Peet or Enter?
>Chan
What ever happened to him?
He got released from prison recently, apparently on bond. He's been keeping a low profile, at least low for Chris.
>I forgot to mention
This has been a known fact for a decade. Everyone who posts in Mr Enter threads knows this. This is why it's so lame when you people try to psychoanalyze him, there are so few interesting details about him you have to regurgitate the same few things that do stand out for years.
You don't have to be here. This isn't mandatory.
I always wondered why it was this short in particular. I don't think anyone knew it existed before Enter decided to go full autismo on it.
Enter was diagnosed late into his adulthood which fricked him up in terms of learning anything in life, it heavily speculated that his real father left him at a young age and that his mom and step father basically bullied him due to his autism, he has a hatred for bad father figure to where he legit cried in anger about the dad from chicken Little being an butthole. People assume his story is some epstien shit but what I see is some sort of weird coping mechanism for a childhood he never had because he basically was treated like an outsider his whole life, by his peers and parents, think about it, he projects himself as a girl because he like feminine things but doesn't understand you can be a guy and like those things too, but he's either too jaded or doesn't give a frick and just wants to have his own fantasy.
I want it to get made just to spite that c**t who called Enter a pedo. Robowhatever.
Robobuddies? I used to like her until I found out she was a Covidiot in Texas of all places. She’s done some good stuff though
Yup, Robobuddies. I used to watch her content until she showed her tumblresque Anti moronicness.
Didn't she defend an abuser
Didn't she have massive meltdown while reading Growing Around on stream?
Yes. Was she wrong to do it?
Comes both unprofessional and have issues.
If I recall Robo had a meltdown because Sally the kid forced her mom to eat a shoe as a punishment and that apparently triggered Robo because of childhood trauma.
Robo basically went "frick this book, frick mr enter" and Izzy had to come into the stream to comfort her.
>covidiot
So was she an anti vaxxer or pro vaccine person
Enter doesn't have what it takes to make a cartoon. It's a never ever.
Do I have what it takes to make a cartoon? All I can do is write
I'd suggest you to get somewhat decent at drawing at the very least. You're gonna need that plus lots of perseverance.
Thank you
There it is, the key problem with his show is how creepy it is at its core. That’s all that needs to be said. So now what?
Well, besides being creepy, it's also not very good at expressing morals. Which I don't care about but Mr Enter clearly does based on his reviews. Despite that, Growing Around has some noticeably surreal messages about accomplishment and independence.
Like what specifically?
The one I can think of immediately off the top of my head is how the story treats the mother character as a constant punching bag, pretty much for the sin of her wanting to act like an adult and do adult things. Between the two kids, the father character is clearly the 'favorite' because he lazes around and acts as childish as possible, always remaining in a state of constant infantilism. And him being as such is treated like a good thing, which he is rewarded for while the mother is punished for trying to be something else. Even aggressively, at times. There's a scene in one of the published books (yes that's a thing, don't waste your time) where Sally discusses with herself what violent punishment she should give her mother because her mother isn't getting good grades at something like...creativity or something.
It basically sets this extremely bizarre precedent of that infantilization is good and should be rewarded, while maturity is bad and should be punished--violently if need be. It's very, very surreal and maybe Enter isn't aware of it but it actively discourages the idea of maturing.
That’s a pretty evil message, but I feel like mid 2000’s cartoons had that kind of vibe of punishing the characters that want to do things maturely. Especially in Foster’s and My Gym Partner’s A Monkey.
Is he getting inspiration from that?
I'm pretty sure he's railed against both shows, particularly Fosters, for being 'mean spirited', which is odd considering that in his own book he's talking about how Sally is outright considering making her mom eat a roller skate. It's possible that with his autism, Enter has picked up something being 'mean spirited' in other shows but can't pick it up in his own shit.
Even if it weren't dripping with latent pedophilic themes about being adults overpowered and dominated by children, the whole premise is still stupid and makes no sense, giving it very little room for any stories or ideas that wouldn't be incredibly boring, unfunny, and uninteresting.
Can you write using a normal fricking script format?
If you can then congrats you are already better than mr enter, the homosexual never cared about learning shit about producing a show
Person who can draw but can’t write has a better chance at making a cartoon than someone who can write but not draw.
Enter needs to be more like Tamers
>Tamers
I'm so tired of people shilling that unfunny autist.
>Tamers is a guy
I thought you all meant Digimon Tamers. Maybe we could’ve gotten that unfunny Canadian cartoon
Shut up.
Bitch.
No YOU shut up homosexual.
sacre bleu
MrEnter's pedophile fantasy will never get made.
Enter needs to break bad, learn some basic animation software, and just start making the show by himself using his shitty drawings. It's not like it will ever have mass appeal in the first place, but at least that way it will actually get made.
This thread got autistic really fast
>a MrEnter thread got autistic
It’s like a cycle of abuse.
autism? on Cinemaphile? why I never
?feature=shared
We got these videos out of it too
I think a couple people made readthrough videos on that book, it's a pretty weird book.
They did and they’re funny
Enter is an autistic cringelord but you have to be just as bad if not worse to hold an autismo's indulgent autismo shit to enough of a standard to milk a video out of it.
This guy's overreaction shtick is a little tiresome, but the book does sound genuinely bad, so I can forgive him for not being more clever and entertaining.
Why doesn't Mr Enter show his feet in his videos
Hell no, anon the world of that horrible incomplete pitch is even more degenerate than shit i’ve seen in roleplay, i don’t know how the frick mr exit is still making videos he should be on a watchlist
I’m curious why he’s so married to this idea in particular.
Sunken cost fallacy. It’s been 9 years since he reviewed the short that inspired him. It could take another 9 for him to give up and accept it was always a bad idea on paper.
>9 years
>around a third of his life
>still going nowhere
>still wants to make it
He doesn’t even have a real job…
everything I've heard about the world/story makes it sound genuinely disturbing. How bad is it actually?
Life Cycle
Age 0: Be born and be taken care of by parents until age 3
Age 3: Become head of the household unless you have an older sibling younger than 20. If you have no parent you may choose to adopt a childless adult or live alone
Age 13: Start to mature and may retire to become a hippie
Age 18: Become an adult but still have rights and house
Age 20: Lose job, rights, and house then you either have children with a spouse, become adopted by a parentless family or be sent to a home for the childless.
For the rest of your life you must go to school to relearn imagination. If you graduate you’ll live in an altergarten a mysterious place where only the mayor is allowed to visit. You can only leave for family events.
Law
Scouts are the police of Growing Around. When kids get in trouble they are forbidden from leaving town. Kids that are arrested are forced into cat costumes and must act cutesy. Adults that are arrested are sent to camps where they are broken into submission.
MrEnter sounds like he has a severe learning disability, not just autism. Autists are usually very intense about world building details and specificity in the way things work and so on. Instead he's got the autistic hyperfocus that won't let this bad idea go, but he doesn't have the intellect behind it to make it anything other than a baffling, display of his own monstrous moronation.
So, I've wanted to steal this idea from Mr Enter, but I can't afford voice actors. I could make the actual cartoon myself either in 3D or with Toonboom hybrid animation (using puppet rigs and actual drawn frames), but I've been waiting until I can afford actual voice actors to make the package complete.
I'd do it to make a point: anyone can make a cartoon, and Mr Enter is a feed dragging bastard who never completes his projects.
You want to steal an already stolen cartoon? Do something better and original then, I believe in you. What will you tweak?
>You want to steal an already stolen cartoon?
Yes.
>Do something better and original then, I believe in you.
I'm doing something original, too. I'm making a near future fantasy/sci fi story and I already have some assets for it. I just mess with other art styles and projects for fun and practice.
>What will you tweak?
Oh, uh. About the growing around thing you told me to not do? Well, I'd change some of the lore to make the story clearly about how children ruin everything. My version of the GA world would be a shithole, except kids can't see it because they're stupid kids. I'd make it more of a show targeting adults, but with kids as the main characters. Like South Park or something.
I actually think Growing Around could be a good IP if Enter did that. Oh, and I'd fricking kill myself before I abandon my personal projects for enter's sloppy seconds.
...pretty sure I saw you posting the exact same thing like, a year ago.
You might have. I didn't say my issue here was new, just that I had it. In the meantime, I've been practicing with 3D and I sorta forgot about growing around until I found my way to this thread.
If I do pay voice actors for this thing, the next thing you'll see will be posts about me taking the idea and creating animated shorts about Growing Around. And those posts will be made by me because I'm a nobody with no fanbase.
By the by, to answer OP's general question, Growing Around had an Indiegogo campaign that failed spectacularly. It only managed to raise 3% of it's intended goal of 350k. Frankly it would've been funny to see it meet the goal because some of the promised campaign gifts are ridiculous and I doubt Mr Enter could've actually fulfilled the promises made by the campaign.
no.
you have to be a hack and appeal to the lowest common denominator aka furries.
You don’t need to be a hack for either of those two things
Learn as much as possible, I believe in you.
No.
Talk about good, underrated indie cartoons for once.
>Captcha: 4P0RK
I just don't see how it's a sustainable concept. Even ignoring the idea that kids could run a functioning society it completely fails to realize that people are adults for far far more time than they are kids.
Even KND gets this right. That’s a show with a premise that could’ve unraveled at any point
Growing Around reminds me a lot of KND in a lot of ways, except KND knew that it's premise was comedic and ridiculous. I don't get that sense from Growing Around, but I do get the idea that KND might've had a lot of influence on Enter.
KND was comedic and ridiculous initially and maybe even in later seasons but then they expanded it into a global organization and added drama. By then it was walking a fine line of getting to be full blown weird
