The term "cosmic" is always being thrown around in regards to comics, but what the hell does that actually mean? Is it just space stuff in general, or is it more specific?

Space and beyond, dumbass.
Okay, but is it just space, or does there have to be magic bullshit as well? Because if not, why are you pretentiously calling it 'cosmic' when the term science fiction already exists?
I don't know. I guess therm "cosmic" sounds cool. I didn't write this shit.
Space stuff in capeshit tends to get magical more often than not. Pick up a random Guardians of the Galaxy run and there's a good chance you'll see Galactus or Ego or Thanos stalking Death. It's just how things go.
>or does there have to be magic bullshit as well?
they will call it magic, supernatural or even inter-dimensional then
>why are you pretentiously calling it 'cosmic' when the term science fiction already exists?
its not pretentious; cosmic is predominantly in space - while science fiction can just as easily happen on earth
try not getting upset about splitting hairs mate
>while science fiction can just as easily happen on earth
>he doesn't call it terrestrial sci-fi
NGMI senpai
>its not pretentious
It's absolutely pretentious. Or have you seriously never heard of space opera?
Have you seriously never heard of the word "cosmos"?
Have you? You can't just label all stories that take place in a space faring setting "cosmic". The word implies more than that.
>capeshit
Nobody mentioned capes, drone.
It hasn't been such for decades.
You're talking about cosmic comics.
That's capes in space.
>comics=capes
... I hate you so much.
That's not what he's saying you empty headed mong. When people talk about "cosmic" comics, the genre you made a fricking thread about, they're talking about capes in space, e.g. GotG, Silver Surfer, Green Lantern etc. Calling it sci fi carries the wrong connotations because sci fi carries connotations of exploration and discovery, like Star Trek. It's not a space opera because that carries implications of swashbuckling adventure like Star Wars. Certain terms carry certain unspoken meanings and if you can't grasp that I have no choice but to declare you a swarthy ESL Black person
>You can't just label all stories that take place in a space faring setting "cosmic"
Good thing the comics in question deal with both space and the nature of the universe, and feature primordial beings in charge of the management and/or creation of said universe.
Space opera is a specific genre.
Capes in space aren't space operas 90+% of the time.
What do you mean? Space opera was meant to be a derogatory name.
>synonyms are pretentious
touching dangerous levels of Black persontalk here, bud.
Scifi isn't necessarily in space. In fact most of it isn't.
A cosmic threat is a universal threat in context to all-comics. Reaching across time and dimensions. Not just "space".
It's about the cosmology of the verse.
In terms of the big 2, capeshit in space. Technically it's not all cosmic but it's so overwhelmingly cosmic (ie full of space gods and reality bending weirdness) it's just a blanket term for their space stories.
Outside of that, Lovecraft is called Cosmic Horror. Your brain can extrapolate from there.
Generally it's Kirby and Starlin adjacent space shit.
It's when the power and stakes are amped up so high that they're just nonsense that you can't suspend your disbelief any longer and it's all just fricking nonsense.
I don't like cosmic capes much.
That's not an answer.
Not my problem.
I don't like Black folk much.
Not my problem.
And I don't like euroslop much. And let me guess, that's not your problem right? Nobody cares.
Cosmic Euroslop > cosmic capeslop
Oh wow, a space whale. How original and creative.
It's a battleship.
It's a battleship that looks like a space whale. Again, so fricking creative.
So does "cosmic" necessarily involve magic bullshit or not? I swear, nobody can just answer a damn question around here.
It's because you're asking a dumbfrick question.
How is it a dumbfrick question? Define your terms, butthole.
Also, not my problem.
