Me and my brother where huge StarCraft and StarCraft II players back in the day.

My brother had one major issue with StarCraft: Brood War lore and it was why the United Earth Directorate would have the same level of technological development as the Terran Dominion. Yea it doesn't really make sense if you think about it, because that everything else works. I would probably not want to kill off Overmind Number 2, I feel like killing him and the Cerebrates off in StarCraft really lost alot to the series.

      >why the United Earth Directorate would have the same level of technological development as the Terran Dominion

The entire UED force in Brood War is basically just a scouting party (Expeditionary Force) that has press-ganged the locals and manufacturing into their army. It would be like if Lewis and Clark had conquered the entirety of the Louisiana Purchase by themselves.

Earth I don't think really cares about the outcome. If they succeed, then it's free real estate. But if they fail then it's a tax write off.

They probably care after finding out what an existential threat the Zerg could be.

The fact UED did not respond at all to the destruction of their Expedition Force was insane. They are facing a literal existential threat of not just the Zerg, but Protess as well. Did everyone forget Protess glassing all the human worlds into husks? The argument is literally "lol they far away".

The Terrans were literally descended from mutants and convicts that the UED hated so much that they blasted them into deep space. I don't think they really cared about Protoss glassing Terran worlds.

Pff human empire is under no threat just look few colony ships full of convics landed in coprulu sector and are fricking up both protoss and zerg im sure UED is actually competent they probably have something even more lethal than widow mines by now

Wait, no, they never did found out. That's right. As far as any Earthling knows, some old kooky admiral went out into unknown space to get away from his wife, and then never come back to stay away from his wife.

This is bullshit, they had all the same units and we saw they were using the same type of battlecruisers even before they started invading the Dominion.

Story/gameplay segregation. They had six months to ship a product so they weren't gonna waste their time on new CGI ship models.

They were basically an expeditionary force with a few resources. That’s one the reasons you conscript Duran (and many other civilians) and steal all their battlecruisers on the dylarian shipyards mission. The low end tech they brought (medics , Goliaths and the valkyries) were enough to frick the Protoss, mengks and Kerrigan.

          >I had mentally checked out by the time I got to the third expansion.
I had mentally checked the moment I realized they turned Starcraft into "mystical prophecy homosexualry" when original game was simply about different races fighting each other.
It was sci-fi where things simply happened instead of being "foretold"
Xel-naga were just an advanced race of creators, not some fricking omnious threat.

Maybe, if it ignored everything about the main plot of the games, especially SC2 which is dogshit. SC1 might work as a story but the more central Kerrigan becomes to the narrative, the worse the story gets and by BW we are already in full moron mode.

What makes StarCraft lore good is the amount of backstabbing and double crossing and working with old enemies to fight new ones. It's very Napoleonic in that sense.

      >he's a snake, but he's our snake

        Anonymous

Yeah, the issue with it mostly starts stemming from Infested Kerrigan/Queen of Blades and how alliances with her increasingly start to occur only because of plot convinience and other characters acting like complete fricking morons.

The Terran campaign of SC1 is probably the best written aspect of the Starcraft's story.
The ending of that campaign is great.

Am I wrong? The way everyone conviniently works along with Kerrigan whenever it suits her ends is basically just plot convinience, Aldaris betraying his fellow protoss rather than informing them about how he discovered Kerrigans schemes is fricking idiotic, everything with the way the UED is played by Duran is fricking moronic and the story is overall only salvaged because the dialogue between the characters is so good.

    Starcraft (2026)
    Dir. Joss Whedon

    >Dr. Jerry Blud, (Johnny Depp) an addict and disgraced doctor, is arrested and placed in a mass kangaroo court with hundreds of other hard cases. Despite his protests, he's sentenced to permanent expulsion from the solar system. In all, some 15 million criminals are loaded onto ships, gassed, and launched in the direction of humanity's latest project, a system with viable planets. By the time they arrive, faster ships have delivered terraforming hardware, jailers, and jails for them.

    >Blud seethes in captivity until an unprovoked attack by hi-tech aliens wipes out a large portion of the settlers. Seizing the opportunity, he leads a makeshift crew of survivors into the trackless wilderness of neighboring moons mid-terraform. They tangle again with the protoss, encounter an even more loathsome alien race, and learn why their base was preemptively cleansed.

    Starring Depp as Captain Blud

    Benedict Cumberbatch as Aldaris

      part 2
      >when jimmy arrives on the planet where the xelnaga artifact is being excavated, a fleet of protoss arrive, being lead by artanis
      >artanis tells jimmy that the artifact cannot be given to a terran, and thought he holds respect for jimmy for fighting along side him and fenix in the past, artanis will not let him leave with the artifact
      >they duke it out for awhile until kerrigan arrives with her brood
      >kerrigan easily overpowers both the protoss and terran
      >artanis is blinded by rage and orders the fleet to switch focus to kerrigan
      >because of this, jimmy is able to finish the excavation and obtain the xelnaga artifact, then leave
      >the outcome between kerrigan and artanis is unknown
      >jimmy brings the artifact to the moebius foundation with his hyperion crew
      >at the moebius foundation, he finds that mengsk isn't producing weapons, but bioweapons in the form of zerg and protoss hybrids
      >the xelnaga artifact is believed to be the missing link in a successful fusion between the two species
      >this pisses of jimmy as he believes this will only make the problem worse, creating a new threat that mengsk won't be able to control
      >he tells this to mengsk on a video call, where mengsk thanks him for his cooperation but tells him he has no interest in jimmy's morality
      >mengsk says he will do whatever it takes to keep korhal safe, even if it means creating a new monster
      >dejected, jimmy leaves moebius on the hyperion
      >while trying to come up with a plan of action, their battlecruiser hyperion is captured by several gigantic leviathan zerg ships
      >kerrigan boards the hyperion with the zerg
      >on sight, jimmy pulls out his weapon to shoot her, before a hydralisk destroys the weapon with acid
      >she says she wants to make a deal with raynor
      >infuriated, raynor says he would never trust her again after her previous betrayal
      >kerrigan claims that mengsk is building a hybrid army to control not only the koprulu sector, but the entire known universe

It's kinda sad that SC is dead but looking at how shit it turned to be and how awful WC and OW are, it's for the best

i'd like to see one, but i fear that it'd just be a video adaptation of the games. the levels don't really transcribe well, movies have to focus on a handful of protagonists, not an entire war.
