S&S is philosophically unpalatable to the people who control and produce media and artistically unpalatable to a spiritually dead audience you could of course capture a sizable niche but frankly the former don't want you and they hate you.

Before anyone forgets how to build roads or make aqueducts they start to think that they're dumb first and then that they're wicked and then don't even know what they are anymore.

This. It's no longer "allowed", and the bawds that screamed on twitter over Sansa's offscreen r8pe would ruin any decent s&s project. Nobody still works that could make it, the writers would spit out their soi in protest. It's over.

You need only look at what they did to Wheel of Time...Id much rather they just stop making things than ruin them.

You could do it but it would be green screen petite CGI with one liners and fall totally flat to the frog-eyed stairs of a mostly brown audience.

Chris Pine plays the most pathetic sad cuck loser with no redemption, his dyke friend adopts his estranged mulatto daughter at the end.
Hugh Grant can't contain himself and horribly out-classes everyone else's acting abilities in all his scenes.

      what? not a fan?

that's high fantasy, swords and sorcery has a very specific low fantasy requirement, fantastical elements have to all be arcane, evil, cultish and antagonistic

it always was about what is now called "toxic masculinity" and all boys fantasized about it
so it's either stick to the book, or b***h out and make another red sonja that no one cares about

Can fantasy films create novel monsters again? I like the fat goofy dragon in the D&D movie. That's a start.

      Anonymous

I've been saying the same thing for a while. I can tolerate CG to an extent but what really kills me is how almost every monster these days looks the same. Just a random mass of limbs and teeth with no clear direction as to what the fricking thing is

there are exceptions, of course but frick me i wish we could get away from pic related for a good while.

I'm sick of that sloppy design they keep cutting and pasting across these dumb films. It reminds me of the 90s when they kept using the same texture as the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. Any new fantasy film worth its salt will utilize models and practical effects.

Japan has been pumping out sword and sorcery shit for years, the genre basically prints money. It's only morons in the West who have been infected with wokeness who can't make it work.

It's kind of weird to me that the modern Japanese concept of 'heaven' is you get sent to medieval europe with magic and dragons, also you get a harem.

Because they also get hack the system super powers because afterlife is a MORPG where you immediately get to boost your stats and rig the system and become invincible. It’s super juvenile

There's 0% chance any ZOG studio could make a decent Conan film, despite it having a surprising amount of Black/Arab/Pashtun representation

well iam not sure they would be down with that representation. I mean Conan in African valley is about him betraying his Black ally because he is revolted by the thought of the Black raping white slave girl

Sword and sorcery was a popular thing during a very narrow window of time and it was never great outside of handful of cases. So any revival is not going to happen unless by happenstance.
