Craig McCracken hated No Secrets's song "That's What Girls Do", which was spammed in every commercial, because he felt lyrics like "It's a chick thing" went against the broad audience he wanted the show to appeal to. Also, he thought the light-hearted ads misled viewers because the movie was actually rather dark.
Everybody except for Craig thought The PowerPuff Girls was a show for girls
A very progressive mind
Boys watched Powerpuff, they just couldn’t look their fathers in the face and ask them to be taken to the theater.
Least repeated Cinemaphile anecdote
Also the truth.
Yeah he's right it wasn't
I watched this for the first time last year and it's pretty boring, especially compared to a regular episode. It keeps banking on the fact that every shot is in MOVIE MODE CINEMA RES but there's only one shot/joke to make use of it that's actually funny cute or interesting.
Tbf I was a boy who didn't see it at the time of release because the ads make it seem really girly. I liked the show and when they added the new theme song to the credits too. Would've jumped on a Dexter's Laboratory movie.
>Would've jumped on a Dexter's Laboratory movie.
It did get one. It's called Ego Trip.
That was a Cartoon Network New Year's Eve Special Episode Event, not Dexter's Laboratory: THE MOVIE it's different
At least his wife has no reason to complain about this now 🙂
Did they get a divorce?
With the royalties McCracken receives from PPG I doubt it... unless...
Mid 2000's craig was very weird. Between this movie and Foster's he had such itch to tell dark and mean spirited stories with no comeuppance or happy resolutions. Early MLP had a bit of that problem too so it was probably Lauren's influence.
Foster in general is like the black sheep of his shows.
Foster is great
Sure
What are you talking about?
It's a pretty common complaint that Foster's was the weakest of McCracken's shows because of its mostly insufferable cast and "mean-spiritedness." I think anon is just saying that the guy went through kind of an edgy phase with his work in the 2000s.
I feel like CN made merchandise for the show that geared towards girls instead of a more broad demographic because it is easier to market to children as either boy or girl toys.
It was more apparent in the 2016 reboot that this was a show for girls instead of a show for everyone, especially with the new toys and the lack of good action.
>2016 reboot
Please don’t remind me…
I've heard it said before that Craig resented making the movie so grim and lacking in comedy, but I appreciate it because it feels like a natural progression to the silver screen: everything is more dramatic. I'm glad Kid Cosmic still had some edge, so Craig didn't backpedal completely.
It's for girls
It's for dudes
IT'S FOR homosexualS
