Yeah, Horror is the one where the loud noise happens and you go "ah" and then everything is fine right? Not the one with harrowing imagery that stays with you. Shut the frick up dummy
Even if it was, that is still under the umbrella of horror. If you disagree, please post your Top 3 horror movies so I can have an idea of what you consider part of the genre.

It is not.
Horror elements with scary ideas in the payoff.
>horror movies

I appreciate those picks but I want to disturb them even more than the common horror movie. They are a fan of the exorcist but I want to leave a lasting impression.

>I want to disturb
You're not going to disturb anyone, just disgust and if you're main goal is to disgust people, just play pain olympics or some mexican face peeling torture videos on repeat for an hour and you'll get the same effect.

I just through of a perfect one!
You dont seem to get the premise I want a horror movie or a movie with horror concepts that lives in your head cause it is disturbing. You guys hung up on genres and quite frankly making up genres as you please

>I want a horror movie
So you are creating your own definition of horror because it's what you want.

>You dont seem to get the premise I want a horror movie or a movie with horror concepts that lives in your head cause it is disturbing.
And you have yet to post a single one. All you have presented are movies that stick with you due to visceral imagery. It's not scary. It's not scary the same way gore videos arent scary, they're just disgusting and harrowing, which is not the same thing, but that's something you dont seem to get through your head. If your main intent is to disgust your audience through gore, then it's not horror anymore is it? But it's not like you care about that because you just want to show your friends how much of a badass you are by what gory films you watch, which nobody cares about.

Cabin fever is goofy fun horror comedy. Other Eli Roth films like Hostel have not stuck around in my head because they are just gory. Martyrs is true horror with some psychological horrors (Seeing phantoms that make you have a nice day) and some man made horrors. The ending was a huge payoff with religious elements and what it means to be a human in general. Makes it scary. I agree with previous anon you got filtered.

It was a shit thread to begin with. If you want a decent horror movie to watch on a horror movie evening with friends, dont be the edgelord thats going to ruin the evening with something disgusting that everyones going to agree to turn off about 45 minutes in.
Watch some silly 90's horror schlock like Urban Legend (1998) or House on Haunted Hill (1999) Late 90's, early 00's "horror" movies are perfect for that shit, Thirteen Ghosts, Ghost Ship, The Faculty, it's movies that are pretty fricking dumb that you can talk over, jumpscares that are just silly and everyone will have a good time taking the piss out of the movie.

A Serbian Film is torture/pedo/rape/snuff porn tho not horror.

If all you want is to shock and disturb them, show them Slaughtered Vomit Dolls.
Torture porn as a genre is a vehicle for visceral and disturbing imagery alone. It is a pejorative term which denigrates the shallow plot of the "film" as an excuse for displaying torture alone. It does not describe actual films with more to say than most horror cinema that also feature to have imagery that's a little too much for the weak stomached.

Yes, Martyrs is torture porn based on what you said there.

The balrogs, orcs and witch kings are uglier than that. Why would you consider Lord of the Rings a horror movie? moron.

... Yes anon, I understand. And I disagree with you. It's mainly due to the fact that you are unable to support this opinion with anything beyond repeating your dipshit opinion again and again without substance that the conversation is not fruitful.
>Horror is the one where the loud noise happens and you go "ah" and then everything is fine right?
Not accurate definition of horror. Idiot dumbass (You) >the one with harrowing imagery that stays with you.
Pretentious and boring wigger (You)
Sure it is. Supernatural b***h haunting the one b***h. Girls kidnapped and tortured in dingy settings by evil people. Get the frick out here with your moronic hot take, homosexual.
>Supernatural b***h haunting the one b***h.
You did not watch the movie. The "demon girl" was just a hallucination of the girl. Whenever the girl sees/experiences the demon attacking her the sister only sees the girl hurting herself. Her trauma caused her to hallucinate the demon.
I never finished watching this bc the premise was stupid: how can the ghost blame her for not saving her when it was every man for himself? Stupid ghost is not being rational.
There isn't even any gratuitous gore in Martyrs, it's just beating up the prisoner girls. Even the end is pretty weak cause it's clearly just a body suit.
Martyrs isn't exactly a Halloween movie (though it definitely IS horror). Movies in a similar vein would include from Eden Lake to The Beach House (2019), particularly the latter for its cosmic relentlessness.

i dont know. even though Saw is considedred schlock and Martyrs is considered a "bleak, transcendental masterpiece", the ending of the 1s Saw did what Martyrs was supposed to be doing during the whole movie. i dont know why.
this is not one you show at a halloween party anon, unless you never want to be invited again
Not OP but watched this after a party back in college. I was pretty drunk/high so it indeed tripped me out
My friends force whoever loses at Catan to watch a movie. Because October has to be horror movie.
Want something real fricked up to show them stay with them for a while.
The Strangers not horror.
Martyrs not horror.
Yeah, Horror is the one where the loud noise happens and you go "ah" and then everything is fine right? Not the one with harrowing imagery that stays with you. Shut the frick up dummy
Pretty much, what you're looking for is torture porn or trauma simulators.
>Martyrs is torture porn
Absolutely and utterly filtered lmfao
0/10 take don't reply again
It’s degenerate French torture porn.
Yep, turns out it's still a moronic take if you write it twice

Whats the point of this movie?
Pornography = degenerate sin
The point is to fap.
Even if it was, why would that make it not horror? Wouldn't you be horrified in the position of the main character?
It is tho. Don't lie blatantly.

Thanks anon, glad to have you on board. Lmao fricking moron loser. Idiot
I meant your intentionally wrong rhetorical definition of horror is not how I and fans of real horror define horror, cretin dumbass.
being pretentious about torture porn is low, even for this board
>moralgayging on Cinemaphile
Lmfao
You can always leave if you're upset
keep up the good work

Therefore, Martyrs not is horror.
"Imaginary" horror still fully qualifies as horror. Likewise tangentially realistic horror.
There is no arguing: Martyrs is a horror movie.
It does not. It is not.
It's beyond arguing. There are thousands of examples and Martyrs is one of them-- horror movie 100%.
spooky melt your mind make you scared but also think
That is sci-fi. And other than concept, it sucks because it's low-budget, shit script and poorly acted and shot.
anyone seen this? is it worth watching?
Yes, it's very good. A bit of a slowburn, but 100% worth it.
Might check it out one day then
Watched it last year, pretty gresat movie
I never finished watching this bc the premise was stupid: how can the ghost blame her for not saving her when it was every man for himself? Stupid ghost is not being rational.
Martyrs is shit
There isn't even any gratuitous gore in Martyrs, it's just beating up the prisoner girls. Even the end is pretty weak cause it's clearly just a body suit.
I put on Salo for the kids last Christmas and it was a smashing success. Three attempted suicides. Gentlemen, welcome to flavour country.
>Three attempted suicides.
I should not have but I lol'd reading this.
OP here I just figured it out. I would say thankyou but you guys were honestly not that helpful. HAPPY HALLOWEEN anyway tho.
Put it on and tell your friends or family that it's a documentary
Put on 'Inside' for them. Make the frick sure it's the original 2007 French version not the horrible US remake.
Martyrs isn't exactly a Halloween movie (though it definitely IS horror). Movies in a similar vein would include from Eden Lake to The Beach House (2019), particularly the latter for its cosmic relentlessness.
Martyrs not horror.
Yes it is 100% horror. Not one source will fail to label it as such
Martyrs 100% not horror. See
i dont know. even though Saw is considedred schlock and Martyrs is considered a "bleak, transcendental masterpiece", the ending of the 1s Saw did what Martyrs was supposed to be doing during the whole movie. i dont know why.
