Saw koreans on Twitter saying that as soon as they saw the young Ember clip they instantly realized she was meant to be korean because of her lifestyle, her family and her behavior
Yeah and fire people are an active threat to water people just like how asians are a threat to blacks because they were plaguespreaders. It's about the asians vs black racial tension that resulted from the covid era.
Man, I'm just happy that baby's first animation demo plot (fire vs. ice/water or light vs. dark) for animation school is officially dead in the ground. Now, students are gonna have to actually think about doing other shit
For some reason they can touch. Because love I guess I mean it doesn't really explain it but they can touch each other. But for the fake out at the end when they're stuck in the oven furnace thing she basically Cooks him alive he turns into steam and in order to get him to come back to life they make him cry and he drips into a bucket and he's alive and then they they go off on a boat where she becomes an intern. She bowsher father he bows back and that's the end the store goes to the two old people that sit around all day playing their game. It's very generic I mean I don't even know how to describe a movie that's so generic
So the source of romantic tension is that they like each other but can't touch, and the resolution is that they can touch after all no explanation given? Sounds like a great movie, can't wait to skip it.
>Sounds like a great movie, can't wait to skip it.
This movie is a SOULess corporate slop and a great reminder why business people, COOMsumers and artlets should stay the frick away from animation as a medium.
The only reason why Disney was so good when Walt was alive is because that fricker loved art and took it serious, the company wasn't just a money printing machine like Bob Níger think.
guess they couldn't do a "we should be friends cause we'd literally die being near each other" and just date our own kind. Friendship is okay too Pixar
Didn't they just set up earlier in the movie that she can evaporate him. That's literally what she did. Now they can somehow embrace and kiss with no problem?
Maybe Wade is under huge amounts of pressure to make a good impression in front of Ember's parents that that raises his boiling point.
They put in a line about how they are changing each other's chemistry. I mean their whole romantic relationship was very rushed and everything in the movie felt rushed and it was a little short. When I was in the theater most of the kids were kind of bored. And people were saying that's the end. The theater was only half filled. So it was just nothing you haven't seen before. The beginning part of the movie was the best part everything after that was rushed and sloppy. In the beginning they were playing around with the visuals of these elements like the blimp being inflated and uninflated and just in general how the world worked and how the elements work. After that they just basically gave up and it just turned into a basic ROM comedy. It was not as good as Walle or turning red. But it was better than strange world. It was a very okay movie. It had some good parts and I liked the way they did with the animation on ember but but it's definitely a movie you could see online and you'd be okay it's nothing spectacular. It had some good parts but that's it. It's like every single romantic comedy about an immigrant family and a rich white family coming together that's about it. I sort of wish I could hate it because then I would have an emotional reaction but it's just okay.
So they half-assed their worldbuilding even more than we thought.
They can't just say they are changing their chemistry without showing us what they did. That's not a throwaway line you can use to asspull how they can be together. Changing their chemistry means physically doing something.
turning red and funny parts. People got a few jokes out of it. Elemental no one in my theater laughed. There was a small giggles from the kids but it was not that much. Turning red can entertain some kids elemental can people awake all the kids were pretty bored.
Didn't they just set up earlier in the movie that she can evaporate him. That's literally what she did. Now they can somehow embrace and kiss with no problem?

>Disney Censors Same-Sex Affection in Pixar Films >Gives the go ahead for a 15 second makeout session with 360, multi camera viewing angles between an interracial couple
Why didn't they just write it off as you interact with other elements based on intentions? Make it so people feel anxious or uncertain of each other so their elements are on the attack. But if they're comfortable around each other your body doesn't go on the attack? Seems like a fitting mechanism that works with the whole interracial thing. "We're different colors but that's only a problem if we make it a problem."
>Ember works at her father's store >She has anger issues and whenever she's angry she destroys things. He destroys a pipe, from which Wade comes from >Wade is a city inspector and he notices lots of code violations in that store >Ember decides to date him so he won't close her father's business
The entire romance is fake, until it suddenly is not and she starts caring for Wade for absolutely no reason. There is no villain, all the problems throughout the movie are caused by Ember
That’s not even the plot. He asks her out on a date after saving the Fire city the first time. Either

It's still a flop with that budget but it might see more love when it's on Disney+ and people bother to watch it.

I will not see it in theaters again I mean visually at work but it was just a very generic okay movie I wish I could say it was really bad but it was just kind of mid-tier it's something you would want to see on stream or for free it's not something that I would pay money again for. It kind of didn't make any sense like they can't touch each other and then all of a sudden they're touching

I can't believe that someone decided to give the Good Dinosaur director another shot at making something. He shouldn't even have been at pixar after that.
Considering rain could genocide these people, I'm surprised the city or the people themselves don't have some form of protection from mother nature.
OK-what exactly do these people want? When an area is ethnically homogenous with white people, they say it needs diversity and immigration. When white people move to an area that is majority black or hispanic, they are called racist gentrifiers. When Chinese people all live in the same area it is called China town and when Armenians all move to the same area it's called Little Armenia, and when Koreans all move to the same area, it's called K-town. These places are celebrated as ethnic and cultural enclaves by the Los Angeles-based animators who create and produce these movies, and they get upset if other races move in. What exactly do they want that will make them happy?
>When Chinese people all live in the same area it is called China town and when Armenians all move to the same area it's called Little Armenia, and when Koreans all move to the same area, it's called K-town.
None of these groups raise property taxes or put in white-trash Walmarts everywhere tho.
Pixar is located up in Emeryville, between Berkeley and Oakland bordering San Francisco. Peter Sohn is from New Yorl. They probably hire from all over so I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't that familiar with the racial enclaves of Los Angeles. If Pixar genuinely had more of a LA influence you would have seen a reference to Porto's or Zankou Chicken or something But I otherwise agree with your take.
>racial enclaves of Los Angeles
homie leave LA these racial enclaves are in pretty much every major city, and even a lot of small ones too, LA isnt special
>hostile to them
More like they're hostile to the environment. They're not doing a good job of getting sympathy when everything they are showing is completely justified.
This is what happens when nerds and betas are given creative control. Art should be the height of human achievement, not hypnosis for the regime in power
My problem with these hamfisted analogies is that elements are more different from eachother, and predators and prey are more different from eachother, than white people and black people.
Best racism analogy in children's fiction is that Dr Seuss book with the star bellied sneeds, since the differences are obviously superficial.
>soil comes in on boats >they're all literally standing on soil
huh? wouldn't it make more sense to be the first one there, and come from underwater volcano or something
So how did water come to earth if earth people came later? And where did clouds come in?
First, there should be air, then comes fire, water, and earth. That would make at least some sense.
How so? I think it makes perfect sense,

Bro you need to look into the concept of "Accelerationism"
In Zootopia, predators have evolved thousands of years ago to no longer hunt prey, so the prejudice isn't justified. Here, fire elements are still a real and current threat, so it is justified that landlords don't want to rent their very flammable wooden buildings to them.
I think these criticisms of Zootopia are unfair. The predators had quite literally evolved past their initial carnivorous diets. They really were not a threat.
But the threats in Elemental are still present so it makes no sense.
i mean more the jokey scenes where, for example, the wolves all start howling at once. it undercut the message that they didn't have instincts any more, to me.
>look at this totally logical scene as we pretend it's supposed to be prejudiced or some shit
I think they're trying to train audiences that if we portray something as bad, it is even if what you are seeing is entirely justified.
I have to wonder how bad Fireland is that they needed to move to a city that is completely incompatible with them.
And couldn't they have at least tried to find an apartment made out of stone? With literal earth elementals there's no bricks?
Also, if I set everything I touched on fire, I'd get fireproof gloves. These people have metallurgy, there's motor vehicles, steel making has to exist in their world, so does welding, so welding gloves or steelworkers gloves have to exist too. Just wear those when they need to touch something flammable. Which is all the time.
My parents immigrated to America to escape the Vietnam War. They couldn't find some better way for the fire elements to move without it just being "well you lost your flame so we're kicking you out"?
The worst thing about this metaphor is how physics have to be bent completely randomly. Some times fire people literally incinerate things they touch or hold. Other times, they can do chores around town like it's nothing. They can walk on wood but they can't touch wood. Or at least they can't when it's convenient.
It's like a literal child wrote this movie, not an ounce of thought went into it.
does anyone have a link to the full thing? the slots site and file name give me nothing
This and >the city isn't made with fire people in mind
work better as metaphors for disability. It's not like asians phisically can't live in houses built by white people
Problem is, no one gives a flying frick about disability. Racism gets butts into seats and it's great for virtue signaling, but cripples can all die in a fire for all the Hollywood execs care.
does anyone have a link to the full thing? the slots site and file name give me nothing
This and >the city isn't made with fire people in mind

Disability is still laughed at in media, as is asexuality. Those groups have gained nothing from media's performative "activism"
Is there a single group that gained anything from performative activism? Corporate "feminism" and clumsy attempts at racial discourse like Elemental are only making it harder for those people to be taken seriously.
>no one gives a flying frick about disability
It's really jarring, too.
Even ultra woke Paramount Nu-Star Trek still makes fun of cripples and people that don't want random sex
>our cultural zeitgeist has always been elements don't mix >this is just common knowledge >i am just going to reiterate this thing that everyone knows to you for no reason
It'd be like my grandma telling me not to frick dogs. Okay, grandma. I wasn't going to.
>day off >just want to enjoy the playoffs you paid good money for with your probably barely livable wage >fire b***h shows up and demands you stop having fun and work on her case, now >Tell her to frick off >Now she wants to start a fight with you
Are we meant to like Ember?
>i wanted to see my favorite flower but the water fascists didn't want fire around it >also here's a scene of me getting a flower from clod and i immediately incinerate it
It's like they forget their own message or something.
Now that I think off it, are there ANY scenes of one element fricking with another's in a negative way aside from fire? There was that one water guy sneezing water on an earth guy, but the earth guy just got a full head of grass from it.
Sort of.
Although it's not as common anymore, one assumption white people used to have about black people is that they were incapable of speaking proper English and all talked as if they were on a plantation. Similar ideas surrounded more urban slang and "gangster talk" but I think a lot of that has either died out or become more acceptable in the common vernacular.
Then again, I'm no expert in this kind of stuff, so there's a good chance I'm wrong.
>Yet another fricking "MUH STORY" "GENERATIONAL TRAUMA/CONFLICT" therapy session turned into a movie
For fricks sake, go to a therapist already and stop wasting both my time and your company's money to pat yourself in the back and waste yours instead, you giant bozo
Anon, movies are fundamentally emotional experiences; some of the best ways to add emotion is to draw from your own personal experience or work out your own troubles in what you're making. Spielberg's dad issues formed the basis of many of his films; and many of them are classics
Halfway through the movie the director of Elemental walks on screen and nervously asks the audience if they get it? Then he walks off the screen and the movie cuts to a 'No Fires Allowed' sign.
>twitter thought it was shit >turns out the movie isn't as bad as the advertisements made it out to be
Opinions aren't something that sets in stone. It can change.
I hate the way this looks. Even if the story were any good, the entire aesthetic is SHIT. You could do literally almost anything with the concept of the story revolving around elemental beings, yet you choose to make it so incredibly safe, boring, and mundane to even look at. You literally could replace all the characters with humans, and the world itself with just the human world and not much would actually change. That is fricking shit writing and design, if the non-human stars of your film don't actually contribute anything by being non-human.
The webms people are posting are not flattering. I know an anon here said that it felt like it would be OK as a film made for streaming but I'm now thinking that the reason people have as high an opinion as they do now is *because* they saw it on a big screen and got dazzled by the spectacle of the visuals. Without that it is possible your opinion will be lower in a way that is more representative of the story's actual quality.
This world building makes no sense in a very distracting sort of way.
I shit you not, the premiere of Elemental in my town was empty. It was literally just me watching the movie. Not even one or two randoms showed up. I was watching the entrance during the previews/UP short expecting at least ONE person to come up the stairs. Nobody did. It was the most bizarre experience I've ever felt. Sitting in a cinema alone watching a movie that should have had at least a few families or diehard Pixar fans rocking up, but nope.
I know it's been said, but this hamfisted racist allegory is really hard to understand when these elements all destructive forces. Not just fire, ALL of them. Little Ember basically near-boils a couple of water kids making trouble in the store. Mama Ember ends up losing half her face when some water splashes on her in the subway. Ember herself can die if she fell on Wade's floor. Gale is able to conduct an electrical storm and hurt a ton of people.
Yes, fantasy racism has never worked as a real life metaphor. The same with Zootopia since Carnivore DID in fact eat Herbivores in that movie too so there is so the bad guys are still justified in a way for their behavior.
>The same with Zootopia since Carnivore DID in fact eat Herbivores in that movie
At least with that, you can say it's no different than how humans used to be wild ape creatures that would murder and rape each other with no morality and we evolved to gain the capacity to NOT do that.
But the fire people are always going to have the problem where if they enter an Earth Person's house, it can get destroyed or if they enter a Water Person's house, they can die. They never "evolved" out of their potentially destructive attributes. And they FREQUENTLY show this off that it's baffling that the city functions as just a city and didn't build itself around everyone's powers.
Cars had shitty worldbuilding, too, where the entire city was obviously made with humans in mind. But at least it didn't hide the fact that Lasseter just wanted to make "car go vroom" movie to sell a bunch of toys. Elemental keeps tricking itself into thinking it's a grander story more personal to the people making it than it actually is.
>The same with Zootopia since Carnivore DID in fact eat Herbivores in that movie
Not IN the movie, in the prehistoric past of the setting as explained in the first scene. In fact I think it's important that there's apparently no possibility of predator species eating prey species; there are no jokes about it, no predator tough guys flashing their sharp teeth at anyone (in fact I think Nick's teeth are even stylized to make them rounder than a real foxes although you can't get a good look at them) and the crazy animals just violently attack anything and everything near them which isn't actually a predatory behavior.
did they ever reveal that the earth people were like the under-class? that's what people on here theorized. is it really just >"look, a fence. that sure is nonsensical and bad writing" >squashes through
>NOOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE A MOVIE IN 2003 WITHOUT REFERENCING 9/11 >NOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT ELEMENTS WITH A SETTING THAT DESPITE BEING CONSTRUCTED BY AND FOR THEM ACTIVELY SEEMS LETHAL TO ALL OF THEM
>We establish Water Guy can swim deep underwater >He can also survive being thrown around in water pipes >He is still scared of strong currents and a flooding basement
>interracial allegory movie >think it must be black man and white female >check up casting, it is actually BMAF
I mean, of course it was going to be bm, but color me surprised
https://variety.com/2023/biz/news/pixar-pete-docter-disney-elemental-cannes-inside-out-1235646648/ >Interviewer: Did you look at the reviews from Cannes? >Pete Docter: That was a confusing half-hour there. The film played, we got a seven-minute standing ovation, and you could feel the love beaming down from the audience to Pete. They really responded to it. Then the embargo lifted and some of the reviews were pretty nasty. I guess there are probably a lot of reasons for that. This is our 27th film. For some reason, we seem to be critiqued not only based on other movies but on our own stuff. So, people will say, “Oh, it’s not as good as my favorite Pixar film, whatever that is.” On one hand, that’s flattering, and it’s also kind of a tough position to be in and very tricky. I’m not sure that we would say we regret going to Cannes or anything like that. It was such a fantastic audience of film lovers.
As a Magic: the Gathering player I am beyond disappointed. Elementals are my favourite tribe in MtG, but this looks completely uninspired amorphous blobs.

So, if they ever have a kid, it will be some sort of steam freak?
That's just air elementals.
I can't believe that comic was right all along.
>It was not as good as Turning Red
😐
turning red and funny parts. People got a few jokes out of it. Elemental no one in my theater laughed. There was a small giggles from the kids but it was not that much. Turning red can entertain some kids elemental can people awake all the kids were pretty bored.
A bad movie is entertaining and okay movie is just okay
>We touched.
l-lewd
Oh frick off.
omg this scene is what literally happens after she sucks his dick in a fan made comic
THATS NOT A CHEMICAL CHANGE ITS A PHYSICAL STATE CHANGE REEEEEEEE
>be hardworking asian dad
>have to listen to black guy bragging about fricking your daughter
just
NAANNII?
>huge amounts of pressure raises his boiling point.
You're funny anon, go write movies
i thought it was an elsa thing where she is only damaging people because she is scared and upset.
>doing that in front of her parents
*hits pipe*
this is a fricking proper catholic woman marrying a PROT
disgusting
>Uhh actually the sola scriputre isn't real, anything our diddler in chief says is the REAL word of God.
This but unironically, sola scriptura actually isn't real and never mentioned scripture, sorry protty
Tell me where in the scripture where Peter decreed that the word of God shall be mediated through geriatric pedos wearing moronic hats.
Didn't, afraid that's an invention of Pastor Jim trying to discredit Christ himself, for after all,
"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it."
Kind of funny that the church is still around despite everything huh? Cant say the same about First Baptist of whatever city you're in.
Seems just as fractured and divided as any religion.
the earliest churches all syriac rather than catholic.
Burgers?
>Disney Censors Same-Sex Affection in Pixar Films
>Gives the go ahead for a 15 second makeout session with 360, multi camera viewing angles between an interracial couple
This is the most predictable slop I've ever seen
What's the plot? And who is the twist villain?
Romeo and Juliet
>Ember works at her father's store
>She has anger issues and whenever she's angry she destroys things. He destroys a pipe, from which Wade comes from
>Wade is a city inspector and he notices lots of code violations in that store
>Ember decides to date him so he won't close her father's business
The entire romance is fake, until it suddenly is not and she starts caring for Wade for absolutely no reason. There is no villain, all the problems throughout the movie are caused by Ember
>woman takes advantage of man
loooool
nice life lesson for children
That’s not even the plot. He asks her out on a date after saving the Fire city the first time. Either
is stupid as frick or they didn’t pay attention. They fall genuinely in love no fake dating shit.
The romance is fake, anon
she literally admits she feels nothing for him
APOLOGIZE SIRS
What the frick
Why do the visuals look so damn cheap
It's a cam
Pixar, and Disney as a whole, are behind in fluid simulation, so decided to make a movie where most characters are fluid simulations.
God I hope the joke is that the parent doesn't mind
By the end of the movie he just accepts it because he loves his daughter and wants her to be happy fricking a water man in another country
*hits pipe*
>another movie where the villain is generational trauma
Why is Ember drawn in such a realistic style while Wade looks like a shitty cartoon character?
Imagine using her mouth like a pussy.
>made of fire
>cries out tears
Who the hell is Crimson Mayhem and why do we care what he thinks? Why are you guys always posting twitter caps of people nobody know and acting like it's some big deal?
No, with basic b***h """elements""" like this it's called alchemy
Is it just me or are all recent Pixar movies like:
>FRICK YOU MOM, FRICK YOU DAD, I'M NOT YOUR LITTLE BABY ANYMORE!!!
A lot of it is mommy and/or daddy issues, yeah. Parents never loved or respect them.
I wanna fertilize tired dirt mom
You can just SMELL the attempt to draw in art college students.
>No, it wasn't a bad financial decision! Look, here's a whole family that got successful solely off art! We get you, we really do. 😉
The funny thing is that none of my friends from the art college I'm going to want to watch this movie lmao
>bring your wife to your house where if she trips she dies
This world is hilarious.
I hate everything about the aesthetics and animation in this except for the fire girl.
Really? I think the fire girl looks the worst out of all of them.
>characters name is GHIBLI
NOTICE ME MIYAZAKI-SAN
>Lake and HER girlfriend
Wait, wasn't she non-binary? Uh oh...
>Character called Ghibli
>It's not an air elemental
They had one fricking job, curse those turbomoronic fricks
The character identifies as air, you bigot.
>‘ELEMENTAL’ earns $11.8M in the film’s domestic opening day, the lowest in Pixar’s history.
big if true
I want to see all those shills on twitter calling it "the best Pixar movie in years" cope and seethe
It's Treasure Planet of our generation
>critics agree
Was there ever a more worthless phrase?
I haven't heard "Pixar's best" but I have heard those who've seen it have liked it a lot.
It's still a flop with that budget but it might see more love when it's on Disney+ and people bother to watch it.
It wasn't okay movie stop pretending it was terrible. It was just an okay movie nothing too bad nothing too good saw it last night. Really kind of generic fake out death and everything. The person next to me thought it was too short which I tend to agree sort of just ends
No Anon, I'm not gonna give Disney and Pixar my money.
I will not see it in theaters again I mean visually at work but it was just a very generic okay movie I wish I could say it was really bad but it was just kind of mid-tier it's something you would want to see on stream or for free it's not something that I would pay money again for. It kind of didn't make any sense like they can't touch each other and then all of a sudden they're touching
underneath the bridge after she sees the flower that she cannot see when she was little, because fire people were banned
I can't believe that someone decided to give the Good Dinosaur director another shot at making something. He shouldn't even have been at pixar after that.
The Good Dinosaur isn't that awful, stop pretending that
Being boring as frick is even worse than being awful. At least awful can be amusing.
It's a golden rule of kids films. Don't look boring, don't be boring.
Oh nonono Disney/Pixarsisters... Now we play the crying game...
Somehow give a link to the cam rip.
Ember's put into multiple situations where she's at danger of a horrible watery death. It's hilarious.
>a movie about race mixing
fricking hell. the propaganda really is never ending isnt it
They should do a movie about protestants dating catholics next, see exactly how far they can get you people to wind back your outrage clocks.
uhh, this already is the movie about protestants dating catholics
Considering rain could genocide these people, I'm surprised the city or the people themselves don't have some form of protection from mother nature.
God damn, this setting just makes no fricking sense, it's not a city that could be lived in by its inhabitants.
Also, the creators have apparently never seen an aqueduct or canal because this shit doesn't happen.
I think they want to not be killed by lethal liquids falling from the sky.
Why are there so many Armenians in California and why are they so severely overrepresented
the power of baklava and Zankou chicken opens many doors of opportunity
They want you broke, homeless, dead, and you're family starving, enslaved and, raped.
why do they wanted so hard to live in a place where not only the population but the environment itself is hostile to them?
>hostile to them
More like they're hostile to the environment. They're not doing a good job of getting sympathy when everything they are showing is completely justified.
would this metaphor have made more sense if they were water people?
I mean in the sense that the fire part of town is under a waterway that apparently can kill them if they're not careful every time a train goes by
That's just bad city design and that scene makes the entire main plot of "your shop has building code violations" seem kinda stupid.
They say that about EVERY Pixar film
This is what happens when nerds and betas are given creative control. Art should be the height of human achievement, not hypnosis for the regime in power
God I wish that was me.
the fact that the artist put their signature for this is hilarious
I'm waiting for the second round of layoffs
THE ELEMENTALS: WATER RISING
lmao what the frick is even the lore for this garbage?
immigrants are le good
My problem with these hamfisted analogies is that elements are more different from eachother, and predators and prey are more different from eachother, than white people and black people.
Best racism analogy in children's fiction is that Dr Seuss book with the star bellied sneeds, since the differences are obviously superficial.
>soil comes in on boats
>they're all literally standing on soil
huh? wouldn't it make more sense to be the first one there, and come from underwater volcano or something
it's sand
They don't look like they come from any tropical environment.
they wanted to code water elements as white people, I guess?
What the frick even is worldbuilding
>the land with earth and air somehow got beaten by water to it first
10/10 worldbuilding
How do you manage to make a dumber setting than Cars.
They forgot about Native Elements.
WE
So how did water come to earth if earth people came later? And where did clouds come in?
First, there should be air, then comes fire, water, and earth. That would make at least some sense.
this could be cool if they play it as a creation myth water people spread to justify their cultural hegemony
>Literally standing on ground
>Earth came after water
What?
Waterhomies could just flow over.
>so uh our lore is like, just the Bible but with my OC
The meme never lies.
i find it funny that the incredibles 2 isn't part of the "decomposing corpse" tier. It should be
It's purely because someone wanted to make some dumb bookend shit with the Toy Story films.
UP belongs in "the decline"
incredibles 2 belongs in decomposing corpse
The first 10-20 min of UP is golden age, the rest of that movie is decline.
Soul is decline.
Incredibles 2 is decomposing.
Cars 2 is an abomination.
Don’t @ me.
I thought normies liked soul
> from the guy who directed The Good Dinosaur
Damn, this guy either sucks complete ass or someone at Disney's executive team really hates him.
Same guy who said Pocahontas is worse than Chicken Little
>23.1 million likes
>1.8 million views
hmmm
The pic was taken by a spain or latam anon. "Mill" is thousands while M stands for "Millon" which is million.
Messed up. Mil is thousands, one L.
Is that a cork board? Being used by fire people?
THIS WORLD MAKES NO SENSE.
>tries to be a racist allegory
>they literally look like 2 dumb motherfrickers trying to rent a house made out of wood
So racism is... entirely justified? Is that what they're trying to portray? I don't think this metaphor works very well.
I mean, half of America celebrated the burning and looting of whole cities just a couple years ago
Okay grandpa.
Are you blind or just stupid?
Chill boomboom
it was like that in zootopia as well, the predators like the wolves really were slaves to their instincts
Zootopia makes more sense if you see as an allegory of gender and how women look at all men as potential predators
Making the villain a woman kinda fricks with that.
How so? I think it makes perfect sense,
The sheep is the feminist who thinks masculinity is evil and men have to be systematically emasculated to not be a threat.
By making them more aggressive? Mm'kay.
Yes? That way she would be justified in locking them up and making it seem like assault from them was imminent unless properly reeducated
Bro you need to look into the concept of "Accelerationism"
but that's the plot twist
They don't have the instinct to hunt and kill prey anymore. Doesn't mean they don't have other instincts.
>look at this totally logical scene as we pretend it's supposed to be prejudiced or some shit
So the storm is a metaphor for Imperial Japan, right?
So they were just stupid? Only metaphor I can see here is that tradition can't resist change, but they just come across as dumb.
American Tail did it better.
Wait, why wav moving the only way to build a new life? Moving is expensive as frick, they didn't hitch a ride like refugees. I don't get it.
Wait, did they seriously make FIRE people a stand in for Middle Easterners? Who greenlit this shit?
The director said they are korean
>and then the Air Nation attacked
Fricking Winders, can't trust 'em as far as you can throw 'em.
>but then the cloud nation attacked
Huh?
I don't get the logic behind their choice, why would the leave their home for an even more dangerous place?
>Fireland
The name is more original than the plot.
Humans are lazy, we already have a Terra del Fuego.
I could imagine earth people are from greenLand, and water people from Iceland
In the Firish language, it's called Féire.
So why didn't the other Fire people help them? Why is their home destroyed compared to others?
My parents immigrated to America to escape the Vietnam War. They couldn't find some better way for the fire elements to move without it just being "well you lost your flame so we're kicking you out"?
>Your father understood. We had to leave. Everything. Our home. It was the only way to create a better life.
Why was it the only way?
Think this could have worked better as a zootopia spin off?
The worst thing about this metaphor is how physics have to be bent completely randomly. Some times fire people literally incinerate things they touch or hold. Other times, they can do chores around town like it's nothing. They can walk on wood but they can't touch wood. Or at least they can't when it's convenient.
It's like a literal child wrote this movie, not an ounce of thought went into it.
does anyone have a link to the full thing? the slots site and file name give me nothing
This and
>the city isn't made with fire people in mind
work better as metaphors for disability. It's not like asians phisically can't live in houses built by white people
Problem is, no one gives a flying frick about disability. Racism gets butts into seats and it's great for virtue signaling, but cripples can all die in a fire for all the Hollywood execs care.
>Is there a single group that gained anything from performative activism?
Corporations benefit pretty heavily, yes.
>no one gives a flying frick about disability
It's really jarring, too.
Even ultra woke Paramount Nu-Star Trek still makes fun of cripples and people that don't want random sex
>wife literally almost sets a house on fire by pure accident
They rarely if ever think these allegories through do they?
Right, so where can I watch it?
Is this the equivalent of screaming hail hitler, or 1488?
so this movie is basically Disney and Pixar present: Menace II Society?
>our cultural zeitgeist has always been elements don't mix
>this is just common knowledge
>i am just going to reiterate this thing that everyone knows to you for no reason
It'd be like my grandma telling me not to frick dogs. Okay, grandma. I wasn't going to.
Edgy
>My dying grandfather reminding me to breathe before closing his eyes forever
obvious nightmare dream sequence
https://www.cbc.ca/news/elemental-pixar-peter-sohn-1.6879805
>According to Sohn, his grandmother's dying words were "Marry Korean."
Imagine putting a parody of your grandma's last words in your movie. What the actual frick is wrong with california?
>marry korean
Yeah, tell an asian guy in America to date an asian girl. Literally impossible with how many asian chicks prefer white guys.
that's just disrespectful
>https://www.cbc.ca/news/elemental-pixar-peter-sohn-1.6879805
thanks for the fresh (you) bait, gonna use it on Cinemaphile
what's wrong with it
>Crimson
Fricking sperg, get AIDs or something
cloud woman did nothing wrong
Ember is acting like a total Karen and somehow this is supposed to be a good thing.
Why do you need to hear what's happening on the field?
>you call that racism? let me show you
I have to say this movie (along with Onward) would've been much better if they completely discarded any semblance to the real world.
>fireball as a slur.
>Not bonfire.
>Pyro.
>Kindlinghead
>Sootshooter
>Combuster.
>Cracklebrain.
>Igniter.
I mean, shit.
Honestly Fireball is pretty cool, would it really be a slur?
It is if said by other elements.
>thanks, you too anon!
Coalburner
Only works if she's going for Earth elements.
>this is more important than a bunch of overpaid nuggets!
Jokic is worth every penny lady.
>day off
>just want to enjoy the playoffs you paid good money for with your probably barely livable wage
>fire b***h shows up and demands you stop having fun and work on her case, now
>Tell her to frick off
>Now she wants to start a fight with you
Are we meant to like Ember?
>When people who are trying to depict a sports event, have never actually attended a sports event.
Are we seriously supposed to be on the fire lady's side here?
You know this would be more poignant if they didn't make Ember burn things for laughs throughout the movie as well.
>i wanted to see my favorite flower but the water fascists didn't want fire around it
>also here's a scene of me getting a flower from clod and i immediately incinerate it
It's like they forget their own message or something.
i wanted to give this thing the benefit of the doubt, but this is so unsubtle
why is the premise, "elements don't mix" when it's clearly "fire don't mix"
Now that I think off it, are there ANY scenes of one element fricking with another's in a negative way aside from fire? There was that one water guy sneezing water on an earth guy, but the earth guy just got a full head of grass from it.
Fricking Koreans. Always complaining about shit. Go back to Korea!
>zootopia but instead of furries it's elements and the "WACISM" is more hamfisted and obvious.
Bravo, Pixar. Why fix what isn't broken, i guess.
Zootopia wasn't a romance.
She speaks Firenese.
do people even still say this?
Does Ember and her family speak a different language though in the film? Because if not, then it sort of falls flat when trying to use it here.
>Make Fire the analogue that integrated the most into western culture (East Asians)
>the hyphin fire catholic
>the artsy water WASPS
you guys are saying race mixing but you are wrong
this is about an italian/irish girl and a WASP boy
Liar
Save it for the DVD Commentary Pete
>i lost both of them during the production of this film
and it isn't even a good film. poor bastard
Is this just a case of someone so obsessed with his "own story", he neglected to tell a "good story"?
>Yet another fricking "MUH STORY" "GENERATIONAL TRAUMA/CONFLICT" therapy session turned into a movie
For fricks sake, go to a therapist already and stop wasting both my time and your company's money to pat yourself in the back and waste yours instead, you giant bozo
Anon, movies are fundamentally emotional experiences; some of the best ways to add emotion is to draw from your own personal experience or work out your own troubles in what you're making. Spielberg's dad issues formed the basis of many of his films; and many of them are classics
She was at slotslights.net in 1979?
>Raped horribly by a gang of earthen ruffians!
Jesus, dad.
>SOILED
Oh boy can't wait to see this image 100 times in the next week
These movies are getting less and less subtle. Which is saying something when it comes to children movies
havent seen it, probably wont
i like the fire chicks design and thats all
critics are paid shills
>~~*Critics*~~ love the race mixing movie
Shocker
Halfway through the movie the director of Elemental walks on screen and nervously asks the audience if they get it? Then he walks off the screen and the movie cuts to a 'No Fires Allowed' sign.
>twitter shitting on this movie for weeks
>now everyone wants it to succeed
What the frick happened?
>twitter thought it was shit
>turns out the movie isn't as bad as the advertisements made it out to be
Opinions aren't something that sets in stone. It can change.
They found it was a minorities wank fest for Crazy Falming Asians
How many types of Elementals are there? Classical four?
>earth
>water
>fire
>air
>aether
The last one came later. If Elemental gets a sequel, they could introduce it.
Whatwould aether people look like
Pure magic and shit.
racist against fire people doesn't make sense, imagine if you are called a racist because you don't accept people with black plague
Does this movie have a trans lava character who pretends to be water but is still burning everything?
Just got back from it. It was cute. Shame it's probably gonna get slaughtered.
Ember is a qt
Was it 200 million dollars of cute?
Yes.

HOLY SHIT THEY SUMMONED SLOTS
That's fricking hilarious, they had to do it on purpose.
If these homies actually paid to see it on the big screen, then of course they will justify liking it.
No movie would have bad review in that case, nogger.
The type of people who leave good reviews don't post on Cinemaphile
I shit you not, the premiere of Elemental in my town was empty. It was literally just me watching the movie. Not even one or two randoms showed up. I was watching the entrance during the previews/UP short expecting at least ONE person to come up the stairs. Nobody did. It was the most bizarre experience I've ever felt. Sitting in a cinema alone watching a movie that should have had at least a few families or diehard Pixar fans rocking up, but nope.
The film was alright. 7/10
that's sad, testament to how far Pixar has fallen. Families just don't care.
When you exited the theater did you see a lot of people coming out or entering into any particular theater hall?
Nope, but I did see some families come in for what I assume was the showing of Elemental that was on 10 minutes after my viewing was finished.
Had this happen while watching Shazam with my family once. Getting to talk normally is pretty nice.
I have this unexplained urge to got to slotlights.net
It's absolutely top 27
(Huh, thought there'd be more than that.)
The phrase "one of" is doing a lot of heavt lifting there
I know it's been said, but this hamfisted racist allegory is really hard to understand when these elements all destructive forces.
None of this works.
The city itself seems made for flesh and blood beings moreso than elemental entities. It's just a shit movie. Move along.
They even highlight this in the trailer where there's a fence that 3 of the 4 elements can easily just walk through.
It's fricking annoying when even there's so little effort with the world building. Even Sing is a more believable world than this.
did they ever reveal that the earth people were like the under-class? that's what people on here theorized. is it really just
>"look, a fence. that sure is nonsensical and bad writing"
>squashes through
>NOOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE A MOVIE IN 2003 WITHOUT REFERENCING 9/11
>NOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT ELEMENTS WITH A SETTING THAT DESPITE BEING CONSTRUCTED BY AND FOR THEM ACTIVELY SEEMS LETHAL TO ALL OF THEM
What is this door? Looks like something from Spongebob. This movie is fricking terrible.
Wade's VA is carrying this movie. He's the only one whose performance is actually getting some laughs out of me.
For me, it's the facial features that look like they were animated in Flash.
>We establish Water Guy can swim deep underwater
>He can also survive being thrown around in water pipes
>He is still scared of strong currents and a flooding basement
>interracial allegory movie
>think it must be black man and white female
>check up casting, it is actually BMAF
I mean, of course it was going to be bm, but color me surprised
Wade acts like typical white guy
Where's mega ?

>Interviewer: Did you look at the reviews from Cannes?
It was such a fantastic audience of film lovers.
>we got a seven-minute standing ovation
Everybody says this. Either most of them are lying, or Cannes-gays clap at everything.
It's the latter. I think the minimum anything gets is 5 minutes. Movies that are masterpieces get 20+ minutes.
Marketing really fricked up then. Not even my little sister wanted to go see it.
"It totally looks like a generic romantic comedy" she told me
That's because it is. The marketing had nothing to work with.
As a Magic: the Gathering player I am beyond disappointed. Elementals are my favourite tribe in MtG, but this looks completely uninspired amorphous blobs.
When the frick did Waterkin become a thing?
Core Set 2020 had a strong Elemental theme.
Both of those are clearly made of stone.
just finished watching.
2/5, racist movie, didn't even manage to justify the fire people's immigration, and the romantic plot is absolutely uninspired
One of the pixar films of all time.
