1st half
>flat cinematography
>soap opera storyline
>cheesy dialouge
>boring plot
>nothing soundtrack
2nd half
>good characters introduced
>IR filmed scenes
>action scenes good
>music intensifies
>something happens
6.5/10 overall.
But feels like a middle film and was only enjoyable for knowing more is to come. Not for what it is itself
>
He is relentlessly not handsome
Some scenes he looks hot, but others not. I dunno what it is.
He actually does have good face aesthetics
except for his chin, his face is very asymmetrical
Would.
I can't imagine anyone loving this movie or wanting to see it again. Zoomers are just desperate for their generation to have its own epic film.
It’s good and you will literally never have sex
Every character exists to build up Paul Atreides. that's it
Yeah if DUNC 1 had the same pacing as DUNC 2 it would have covered all of those events in like 40 minutes, and that would have been fine. If they insisted on it being that long they should have added more of the political scheming and worldbuilding from the books instead of having half the runtime be landscape shots.
Dune 2 really was good though, it seems like the creators genuinely took the advice of the fans and its a genuinely great movie, definitely the best of the 2020s but thats a pretty low bar.
>definitely the best of the 2020s
It's not even the best of this fricking month.
fair
They completely cut Thufir, lots of the worldbuilding, the buildup to Yuehs betrayal, Leto knowing he was walking into a trap and trying to outmaneuver his enemies, Kyne's death, and the plotline about people not trusting Lady Jessica. Not to mention all of the bits with the Harkonnens that got cut since they decided to turn them from flamboyant, well connected schemers to one dimensional demon monsters.
And this is all just from memory based on a book I read 5+ years ago I'm sure there was even more that got left out.
>flamboyant, well connected schemers
We were so robbed by Jodorowsky's film being cancelled.
>Jodorowsky was going to shoot part of the film in Algeria. They spoke to the Algerian government, and the Algerian army was going to play extras. Jodorowsky was looking for who was going to play Jessica, and he wanted a strong, beautiful woman, not a weak dainty woman. Someone with a real spiritual strength. He saw a movie with Charlotte Rampling, and thought she would be perfect. They sent Charlotte Rampling the script, and she agreed to meet with Jodo before she had read the script, and in the script, there is a scene where a character named Rabban the Beast, part of the Harkonnen army. In order to insult Duke Leto, David Carradine, Rabban the Beast gets his army, the Algerian army, to pull down their pants in front of the palace and shit. So there’s going to be a scene of 2,000 extras defecating at once. So here’s Charlotte Rampling, she agrees to meet with Jodo, she gets the script, she reads the script, and she says, “I can’t be in a movie where there’s 2,000 extras defecating on screen! I need to be in a movie that people are actually going to see! Who the hell is going to see this movie?” Jodo said, “It was a great disappointment for me. A great disappointment.” It’s kind of fantastic.
>Cinemaphile considers 14 hours of dudes dressed as ladybugs shitting, jerking each other off, and dancing around to circus music to be peak kino
Jodorowsky was a filthy Hollywood pig and I respect the based mexicans who formed a lynch mob in reaction to his pedo-flick being played in their country. His version of Dune would have been just a vehicle for more of his filth
Jodorowsky's film would've been a shitshow, Feyd-Rautha would've been played by Mick Jagger lmao
But that art is kino
I admit it is kino, kind of like how McQuarrie > Lucas
the first third of the book is just as slow as part 1
it's how the story goes
I just felt Denis didn’t make a world that feels living and breathing. Maybe its the aesthetics
>Maybe its the aesthetics
"Aesthetics" is a bit of a stretch for what he put on the screen there. Almost the exact opposite ... "anaesthetics", I guess.
Im confused as to how someone could come away from it with this view. The giedi prime scenes for example were not only beautiful but made total sense lore-wise with the Harkonnens
Holy shit. Imagine being this much of a Villeneuve bootlicker.
The cinematography of the film is probably one of the most consistently praised things about it
>most consistently praised
It's trash. And if you actually understood cinematography, rather than parroting youtubers and bloggers who know as little as yourself, you'd actually notice that it's bad-student-film-tier, lacks creativity and variety. And the terrible lighting and lack of colour grading do the rest.
no decoration in the sietches other than what's carved in stone, no pillows, no rugs
no one preparing food
no hint of any manufacture of anything
lots of ugly close-ups
le BEIGE
>worldbuilding
DUNC 2 had it easy when the first two thirds are about the best parts of the book
The last third was rushed and kind of awful
How has the movie industry people successfully convinced movie audiences that this troglodyte is a leading man?
what crazy ass soap operas are you watching man. I need recs
battlestar galactica. in any given year, if i go to the theater, 4/5 times I'd have more enjoyment out of just watching a BSG episode instead.
or any good show, with STORY-TELLING and CHARACTERS which is in Dunc 1 and 2 like WATER on Arrakis: it does exist in this world, but we can't see it!
What are you talking about? The second half was pure capeshit-tier action slop.
>2nd half
>action scenes good
Did we watch the same film? It had no action scenes.
>It had no action scenes.
He means the capeshit-type large-scale meele brawls.
You guys fricking are so pretentious, this is the best dune adaptation we will ever get and you guys just cherry-pick everything because it is popular.
It was better than the "lynch" abortion.
Is that what reddit told you, anon?
No it was a youtuber.
Imagine losing control of your movie and then disavowing it. I would be so fricking mad. I would seethe with rage against those homosexual producers.
I want a 20 hour version of Dune, a show if you will. 2x3 hours is way too restrictive, not even enough to properly explain the basics of it.
I had to explain a whole fricking lot to my friend because the movie was way too simplistic.
>No it was a youtuber.
Ah, yes, so much better!
The exact opposite for me. I found the first half very engaging and interesting while the second half boring, the third act especially.
Part 2 is great. Don't listen to the morons here that hate everything.
>the morons here that hate everything.
Right. Everything. Except for the books. And Lynch's adaptation. And the mini series. And the porn game. But, other than that, and lots of other films and books unrelated to Dune, we hate "everything" here. Not only Villeneuve's "masterpieces", but Brian Herberts "incredible contibutions" as well! Imagine that!
>And Lynch's adaptation
universally agreed to be terrible
>universally agreed
This is your brain on /r/eddit.
It’s objectively bad you spastic
>objectively bad
Kek. We have a Mauler fanboy in the thread. Wonderful.
scenes good
Yes, what an impressive 90-second war that was.
never going to watch it. pile of rubbish
Why did they run to the harvester to be slaughtered by guns if they had laserguns all along?
pretty sure they had to take out the helicopter before they could attack the harvester
>pretty sure they had to take out the helicopter before they could attack the harvester
With that range they could just as well just go for the harvesters immediatly
>Shields
>on a harvester in the desert
>With that range they could just as well just go for the harvesters immediatly
in the intro of part one they use the same lasers on the harvester, they do so damage but get rekt by missiles shot from the harvester itself. Not quite sure myself how it works in part two
Shields and I ain't gotta explain shit
What's the point?
I don't get it, why film in imax, and then NOT release it? Why create something just to waste it? IMAX is such a fricking scam.
>I don't get it, why film in imax, and then NOT release it?
Because the IMAX format is shit. It's way too vertical/square, when your eyes have a horizontal alignment, giving you a much wider horizontal field of view than a vertical one. In other words, the IMAX format has a lot of empty space on the top and bottom of each frame where nothing of value happens, because you're meant to concentrate on the center.
Or, as you put it:
>IMAX is such a fricking scam.
The result of this is that if you released it as is, due to the image being smaller and you'd be able to take all of it in at once, you'd notice how much emptiness there is and how little happens. Cutting away all that shit massively improves the experience. Well, as much as possible with a trash film like DUNC.
I felt it was very sterile.
1984 dune was, despite all its faults, much more entrancing.
it's currently #14 on IMDB greatest movies list...
That doesn't mean shit. LOTR is still talked about here regularly. Avatar on the other hand had no cultural impact at all.
