Recently listened to Soundgarden's full discography, they should be last in place by a far margin.
PJ, STP, Nirvana, and AiC all have at least 5 or more amazing songs, Soundgarden's only good songs are black hole sun and jesus christ pose
To be real, they are all pretty comparable, all of them only have like a handful of good songs, you can flagrantly pretend that I just don’t know what I’m talking about/haven’t heard all their stuff as much as you want, but they all basically have like 5 good songs. Grunge is defined by like 15-20ish songs tops. Don’t get me wrong the best of the genre is really great, but it’s pretty shitty past the hits. The hits are the hits for a reason, and it’s usually because the rest of their discogs are shit.
I know he killed a bunch of people, but my sympathies lie with the shooter. I'm a complete misanthrope who hates people and society, and if those kids didn't want to die, they shouldn't have been so cruel.
from someone who's listened to the entire discography of all of them, I'll offer you an unbiased ranking:
1. AiC
2. Soundgarden
3. PJ
4. STP
5. Smashing Pumpkins
6. Nirvana
7. Mudhoney to round it out let's say
With that being said, Nirvana had 2 and a 3/4 good albums, they caught lightning in a bottle and I am no purist who'll mindlessly hate on them, both In Utero and Nevermind are superb, but you can't compare them to the others simply because of the volume. RIP Kurt although you would've probably been a seething demented leftoid in this current era.
At the Orange County fair! See the rolling stones! Special Guest metallica starring james (and only james) hettfeld, who will perform one song but leave early cause hes got a thing.
>you can't compare them to the others simply because of the volume
Yet you have AIC as your #1? Nirvana had 3 full lengths and a solid compilation with Incesticide plus the unplugged album. That pretty much matches the output of Layne AIC.
Don't know if it's right or not, but I consider the current Cantrell-propelled AiC fairly soulless but still part of their legacy and decent musically. Furthermore, Layne AIC far out-match Nirvana on many "terrains". As I said I very much like both and perhaps there is some bias there, but that's how I view things.
>Don't know if it's right or not, but I consider the current Cantrell-propelled AiC fairly soulless
It is right. I would consider any of the material past the 90s for any of the bands that you listed in your first post as soulless. Past a certain age, musicians just lose the creativity and edge they had in their youth.
Read until the end, Cantrell hasn't lost his edge, Kinney and Inez are still there. Alice in Chains the brainchild of LS/JC is still alive, touring and releasing the odd good song every once in a while. It's a soulless project, but the show must go on.
If we were to compare just short eras and take '87-'97 for example, then every comparison is purely subjective and it depends on your taste.

It's soulless because AiC lost their edge. Hell, I would consider Cantrell's solo shit better than what Alice is putting out right now.
SS: Nirvana
S: Pearl Jam, Melvins, Alice in Chains
A: Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Green River, Mudhoney
B: Sweet Water, Screaming Trees, Tad, Babes in Toyland

Clearly I remember
Pickin' on the boy
Seemed a harmless little cuck

I'd rather watch my elders do goofball shit than watch goofballs shit on my elders.

Incorrect
Hunted Down, Fell On Black Days, Like Suicide, 4th of July, etc
Ultramega OK, the entirety
Fell on black days
Burden in my hand
Dusty
>4th of july, spoon man, outshine and fell on black days
Objectively wrong but I will give you that Cornell sounded better when he was doing solo work.

CLASS TODAYYYYYYYYYY
Pearl Jam's only good album, before Vedder took over and made them insufferable
Only contrarian zoomers would say nirvana is not the best grunge band
Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, and Hole are all better grunge Nirvana is so fricking overrated
>Pixies
>grunge
lol
get a load of this moron
Yes were getting a load of you.
Hole is fricking ass and the pixies and pumpkins have literally one good song each.
Nirvana is the grunge version of mumble rap. Yup i said it
This. They were basically a hard rock version of 80s new wave
This song is so weird. It makes you root for the school shooter.
>It makes you root for the school shooter.
only because he was bullied though
I know he killed a bunch of people, but my sympathies lie with the shooter. I'm a complete misanthrope who hates people and society, and if those kids didn't want to die, they shouldn't have been so cruel.
search your feelings. you know that is exactly why it resonates with people. people are absolute scum. much justice, angry adolesence, much wow.
Maybe its just you get older and forget what thats like, where somedays you wish you could just pull a columbine on those evil motherfrickers.
Kids are absolute evil, they are the meanest little fricks, and they treat kind people worse of all.
just take a fricking flamethrower to a bus full of kindergartners. that'll show em.
just run a monster truck over a pile of babies.
Do you like HOBOS?!
I bathe with Hobos.
homie only shot himself
Then why does the video have all those dead kids in the classroom?
it doesn't, they're covered in his blood splatter
Shooter only committed suicide in class.

Kurt never would have committed suicide if he owned a monster truck.
I'm kind of glad hes dead.
I really don't want to see a Niel Young / Nirvana charity concert to save Truckasaurus.
Truckasaurus.. Long may he Ride!
Special Guest, Bob Sieger!

I did. You called them decent which would imply that they have in fact lost their edge.
accurate but STP and smashing pumpkins aren't grunge
It's soulless because AiC lost their edge. Hell, I would consider Cantrell's solo shit better than what Alice is putting out right now.
I don't like Soundgarden and I really, really, really don't like STP.
Reminder that grunge ruined rock n roll forever in just that short time in the early 90s. Almost feels like it was by design. That said STP was based.
Rock would've died anyway considering the rapid pozzification of America/UK going on at that time, at least it got a proper send-off.
I am 34 years old. I've heard this song on the radio my entire life. I had no idea that those were the words until this very moment.
AIN'T FOUND A WAY TO KILL ME YET
I'll be mad for the week but at least I won't have to deal with one problem anymore
grunge sucks
Yes, David Lee Roth, we get it, Nirvana killed your career.
This is Cinemaphile not Cinemaphile homosexual.
>inb4 le music on television
Go back.
I would bet my life savings i’ve been here longer than you.

Embarrassing.

And yes, MTV was a thing.
