Pretty sure the only genuinely decent opinion on these movies was Rich because from the beginning he was just throwing his hands in the air and saying frick it. Might be remembering wrong. At the very least Mike and Jay should be shamed for life for considering TFA a good film, let alone a redeeming Star Wars film.

      Anonymous

Rich probably said what Mike was internally thinking out loud- 'At the end of the day, it was a competent movie, which after the mess that was the prequels was all it needed to be'- but Mike was just excited at the possibility that it could be good Star Wars again since he thought that would always get more money and a chance to be great again compared to Star Trek.
I think Rich being a gamer nerd ironically helps him not get as worked up about movie franchises selling out and going down the shitter, he's well used to it in the Cinemaphile field of things. Mike by comparison (at that time) still had hope for shit.

Daisy Ridley was an awful casting choice and contributed heavily to how shit the sequels were. She's a decent tv actress at best and nowhere near good enough to carry a movie trilogy as big as this.

      Anonymous

theres plenty of reasons why the sequels are shit and daisy ridley barely makes the top 10

        Anonymous

List them then. She was the main character and the right person in the role makes a hell of a difference. George Lucas at least got his casting right in the OT which makes up a lot for the child level storytelling and dialogue.

          Anonymous

the biggest one is obviously going into making a massive sequel trilogy without any sort of plot outline or plan for the whole thing. i dont believe better casting would have made a difference. i wouldve cut the Black person before daisy 2bh, poe is also a useless character

Star Wars was saved in editing and I'm tired of pretending just because it's a common redditor factoid to bring that we have to say it's wrong.
George Lucas is unironically a hack. No amount of cope, no amount of how god awful the Sequels and Disney and modern Lucasfilm are take a single point away from Lucas being a moron that had to get bailed out time after time after time from his own stupid decisions.

I don't even care about Star Wars anymore, buy it's moronic to say the man whose imagination and dedication made Star Wars and all the things that are iconic to this day, is a hack just because someone helped him trim the fat off the whole thing by reorganizing some scenes.
        >B-but the Youtubers said-
(You) are a moronic homosexual that is incapable of nuance or any proper thinking, you need others to tell you contrarian "smart takedowns" of popular things to see successful and creative people torn down and painted as total hacks just because they made some mistakes. Why? Because, again, (You) are a moronic homosexual.

I know everyone's already dumping on Daisy Ridley, so I might as well. Her performances in those 3 movies were pretty bad, she didn't come off as "charismatic", just bland with the overdone stock "woman with a British accent in a sci-fi movie" performance that has permeated the genre for years. Writing aside she just didn't come across as likeable or engaging, no matter how many times she said "LEWK SKYWOUKAH" in a voice louder then the scene suggested.

Theres also just so much more to say about the prequels. How they got made, how George funded the whole thing, his vision for it, how he went fully digital and greenscreen, the anticipation and reactions of fanboys, the aftermath etc. Sequel trilogy is a cash grab that made some bad casting decisions and worse directing ones. Not much to discuss
