I don’t like Dane Cook, and his “comedy” is terrible. He did however invest in a website, used MySpace and used them to connect with fans. He was better at marketing than other comics and they hated him for it. I was a teenager when Dane blew up and he was impossible to escape. Most comedians are miserable people. They’ve been “grinding” at shitty comedy clubs and hate he was playing arenas. Also, comedians are pretty lazy, Dane had a better work ethic than them.
could be totally wrong here but i think he was just the last star in the post Eddie Murphy/Seinfeld era of stand up comedy being culturally relevant. he wasn't as good as the guys before him but was the only one to fill that spot in that weird early to mid 00s era, basically dane cook is the triple h of comedy
His first big album went nuclear my senior year and I actually thought it was pretty funny the first time I heard it. When his next one came out he hosted SNL and did a few bits from his routine at the beginning and it was really bad. I was trying to introduce him to my dad and his friend and they didn't laugh at all and neither did I.
