It was literally the most kiddy possible version of its concept. I'm honestly surprised it's as lighthearted of a show as it is when the entire concept is based around ghosts and sometimes how they became ghosts.

Well it is implied in the comic that every ghost is just a troubled spirit needing love and purpose to be redeemed. This causes Danny to power up after realizing his new purpose to redeem all the ghost and help give them a purpose.
