For DC in particular, the vast majority of their most popular and well-known comic series are out of continuity limited prestige books anyway. Why would Peacemaker have to explain why he's in Blue Beetle? Why can't there be a Peacemaker in both universes? Why does the universe need to reset anyway? Can't a movie just establish pretty quickly which characters are important and what continuity the audience needs to know in the first scenes? Don't they do that already?
