the authority is really cool but gunn wants to use them for an eventual adaptation of Action Comics #775. Its a BIG MISTAKE for several reasons. Fist, there is no set status quo, and his New Superman Movie is not enough, this was the problem last time as well when DC/WB pushed to make Justice League before we had time to course correct Superman or even introduce batman. The other reasons is that, with "The Boys", "Invincible", "Jupiter's Whatever" and even Zack's Superman, we have had enough of "Evil justice league" for a while. They should instead concentrate on making one good movie first. no announcements, not further plans, just put a halt on everything until superman comes out and judge from there.
When it comes to DC it’s incredibly hard to define what are the “real fans”. We’ve all seen that meme dc fans online vs dc in the theater. I think WB and Gunn gaslit themselves into believing Snyder was harbinger of all failure and evil and that there’s a magical dormant audience waiting for the “real” Superman. I think the general audience and most of us here in Cinemaphile aren’t particularly passionate about characterization and what not, we just want something that tickles our fancy. It is for that reason that all of this, Superman: Legacy (which is setting up to be a desperate overcorrection from Cavill) and the DCU is completely unnecessary and will only make worse problems.
Holdovers:
Aquaman 2 might do well but nothing like the first movie, blue beetle is doa lol
Chapter 1:
The only movies here that may do well are Superman, Batman and *possibly* Supergirl with the right marketing. Even then, Batman might fall over the other reeves version. The rest of the movies might not be outright flops but they ain't raking in guardians-tier mega bucks and NO ONE cares about a swamp thing movie
All the shows will flip or do bang average numbers. The peacemaker show had limited appeal and that's where I see most of this stuff.
Elseworlds stuff:
Will probably do well but I don't think the first pattinson batman was that great or made a huge cultural impact - like idk if general audiences care that much about a part 2. Joker 2 will probably do well off lady gaga being in it.
They should have just done a hard reboot with new superman, batman and wonder woman films based on their classic DC animated characterizations - other DC characters can appear in these 3 - with the aim being a justice league unlimited/new frontiers type movie years later
