I'm actually surprised how accurate the character was, the actor even looked like him.

I actually have a theory that this movie takes place on a post-Infinite crisis universe.
Since famously Ted Kord was killed during this crisis but also Jaime found the beetle and got the powers.
The fact that he is "missing" and then in the end Ted Kord sent a message to his hide out to confirm that he was still alive, which is eerily similar to what happen on the new 52. so i think this what James Gunn meant when he said that Jaime was the first character on the new DC universe but not the first movie.
