DC is in serious trouble

Mass layoffs are coming. Whose being fired is unknown yet.

A full fledged reboot to align with the Gunn universe is planned. DC is aware how fricked the characters and continuity is and the only way to entice new readers is to start fresh again. Why they ate doing this? From what is said, sales are the gutter again.

Ultimate Universe is still coming as a side branch to the main universe.

There are struggles in the bat office. DC has been bleeding editors and there are concerns about the position being filled. 150 currently has no editor and the Gotham group meetings no longer happen. Katie the temporary editor doesn’t want the job and previous talks with other potential candidates fell through.

There are talks about something happening in 2025, but I don’t know it’s about. There are whispers about licensing the characters.

just one more reboot will fix everything

I assume this is mostly fanfic but if they don't see how you can combine an "ultimate" line and a line based on the Gunn movies they're very dumb.

Also why are you doing a reboot and an ultimate line!!!!

The lack of communication at DC is astounding. They’re nice people but they don’t know what the frick they’re doing. Alot of reactions are due to course correction without a good elaborate plan.

      >just one more reboot will fix everything
I wish I could remember the exact quote but there's a bit in Marvel Comics: The Untold Story about Shooter's proposed Big Bang idea where the intent was to retire all the characters and reboot everything (which eventually didn't happen but bits and pieces of it filtered through in things like New Universe or Eric Masterson). The intent was to streamline things because "continuity and characters had gotten too complicated" and to better align with outside media versions but one of the people who was against it had the logic that reboot would just make things worse and just inevitably lead to more reboots or something along those lines.

        Anonymous

The New 52 wasn't a full on reboot too. Since they kept the Batman and Green lantern history but then tried to force it into their weird 5 year timeline. They obviously wouldn't do that again.

    A reboot isn’t the answer.
    There is no answer.
By trivializing their multiverse, nobody cares about DC anymore.

      Anonymous

It's not trivializing the multiverse, it's that continuity is completely fricked and has been ever since the New 52. Nobody's ever had an idea of what contiuity is actually supposed to be in the last 13 years and DC finally gave up, said everything is canon even the shit that contradicts itself and everybody basically just does what they want. Current DC is basically the "cape comics where writers can do what they feel like unshackled by the chains of continuity" and it turns out that was a bad idea because continuity and the shared universe and the idea that you were reading something part of a larger whole and grander narrative was a huge draw for cape comics. The continuity wasn't a detriment but instead hooked readers and created loyal fans who wanted to know what happened in other areas. Getting/downplaying it was shooting themselves in the foot.

They should just change to releasing all unprofitable books digitally, and in hardcovers if there is enough interest (say 20000 digital views or more get hardcovers), and call it a day. Even if they are left with 10 non-Digital books.

Also, they should wait until the Gunn universe actually is established and successful (if) before making any more reboots. Honestly, chances of Gunn flopping or doing meh are fairly high.

I think they should go in a way where you're only guarantee 3 issues in a run. Make these hacks actually write a full story for once in less than 50 billion chapters. Licensing sounds decent. Kill off everything outside Batman. There will never be a non Batman book that will be good in DC. Keep Black Label and focus on actual new IPs for it. These other super heroes are nothing compared to Marvel properties.

I wouldn't mind a Justice League for all other non-Batman characters. And again stick with 3 issues only for a writer. Force them into continuity and make it work with ongoing Batman.

The only real merit to Batman comics is that (increasingly old) Batman grognards still bag 'em up. Creatively it's just as bankrupt as the rest of DC comics.
Who's turn is it to take over Gotham this year? Mr Freeze? Scarecrow? It's all tiresome garbage with an ever-growing pile of legacy characters for a hero that will never retire in continuity.

The problem isn’t with the IP, the problem is that there is no stability in editorial and the they keep putting the wrong talent on Batman.

I don’t think Batman needs to be the totally milquetoast, soulless, comic that it has become. To me personally the continued minimization of the ‘Bruce Wayne’ aspect of the character and the duality that comes with that has made him inhuman and boring. Without fatherly Alfred waiting up for Bruce and nursing him back to health all of the time, we as readers forget he is a human being and without that we lose the ability to empathize and relate to the character. That coupled with the absolutely boring, hackneyed “Gotham takeover” storylines and terrible events have absolutely killed the character
