Deadwood

It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great. Like, it just meanders around. I like everyone on the show, but it feels pretty aimless and pointless. That rich guy wanting to rape Alma for thinking she can negotiate on a deal added something to the show but the series ended with nothing really happening,

Yeah. Cinemaphile recommended it so I gave it a watch, and it's a big nothing.

It's well-written, that's an objective fact, but there's nothing to really bring everything together. The rich guy did for the final season but it was too late.

I'm not saying it wasn't good. It was. Just wasn't really a stand out besides its setting.

Among its peers (Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Shield, The Wire, Rome, and Oz). Its setting is unique and takes you in, but there isn't an overall underlying conflict. In the crime shows, its the characters' faults driving them to frick up. In Rome, its the ever-changing political situation affecting all of the city. Deadwood is....Deadwood.

Deadwood is better than all of them easily.

Deadwood quite possibly has one of the best written dialogues in the history of cinema.

The tweak some shit, but it's a lot of real tales (as reliable as newspaper articles were or are) with artistic liberties taken with a trained eye for historical accuracy in settings and little details. So yeah, building a narrative arc while balancing that is tricky.
Also the movie goes way off the rails on a locomotive headed to moronville for no good reason, Swearingen died getting shot in the back of the head stepping off a train in San Franscisco and they just didn't do that.

      >Swearingen died getting shot in the back of the head stepping off a train in San Franscisco and they just didn't do that.
That’s because they didn’t know. Up until a few years ago it was historians thought that Swerengen just died of natural causes. It wasn’t until after the show ended that historians realized he had been murdered.

The dialogue could be so good if they just removed 60% of all the swearing

Not enough action scenes. I know that's the point. But still.

Would you guys enjoy a film about outer space, but not show any aliens? No. That's ridiculous.
