Seems like a stomp for Spear, but personally I'm a fan of the greatest detectives of their respective worlds going against each other.
Both have all the equipment, allies, and resources they had to in their respective series and are aiming to kill.

This sounds like a meaningless stomp. Piccolo already massively outstats him without his immunity to dismemberment. Sukuna can only win in JJK because he outstats everyone who relies on hax that can be nullified by basic tools of the JJK power system. He has nothing against characters from other series.
It's incredibly easy to outpace it though. It took Piccolo the entire Raditz fight, Cell giving a monologue and however long to took from Dabura's death to showing back up for him to regen.
Sukuna actually doing damage is indeed an uphill battle for him, I'm just arguing regen isn't the win con you think it is.

Bleach is the black sheep of the "big 3" it's sales are shit compared to Naruto and OP, the story peaked too early in the soul society arc, and while it is "Iconic" (apparently Bleach inspired a lot of modern Manga) Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball are way more Iconic and influential.

First one could be dismissed as aim dodging, but I think the dodging the reflection as well, being able to perceive something that's "just a light" and keep up with it to the point of being able to reflect is pretty solid.

He's multiversal at the very start of DBS. The writer for the World Forger comic already stated Supes never actually became as strong as him even with the help of Batman and all the sundips so he was never that absurd multiversal level Death Battle implied.

I'm assuming a battle between two people of that same (or greater) level wouldn't yield the same results, say a Golden Frieza and a base Toppo, since they kept stressing that only a battle of two GODS would do it. In truth, at best perceiving another character as "fictional" means your existences run in parallel, and unless you are the only mind in which that character exists in any form there will always be others and as such complete control of that character will almost always be out of your grasp.

Does anyone else think death battles are more interesting when the powersets are totally different, rather than two really similar people from different franchises? When it's the latter, it's really just a case of "they have the same powers, but which is stronger", whereas it's more interesting when the powers conflict and you have to really think about who would win.
Maybe a bad example, but off the top of my head, I'd be more interested in a fight like Hulk vs Flash than another speedster battle...

Shadow is an antagonist for exactly 2/3rds of one game.
Deathstroke's biggest rivals don't have his abilities. Shredder has crazy powers or tech more often than not at this point. Reverse Flash is the only good example here.
Joker's been said to be as smart as Batman by countless writers, Ras al Ghul, Lex Luthor and Captio. It's kinda how he manages to outsmart him every time they've ever appeared together.

Yes and no. I don’t mind if a fight doesn’t consist of the characters being LITERALLY exactly the same power wise but uh…when was the last time we had a fight like that? Even same franchise fights like Meta Vs Carolina and the MMBR had the characters use entirely different weaponry and moves from one another despite being similar at a glance. Powersets are only an issue if you’re doing a Flash Vs Quicksilver where you don’t actually use either characters cooler abilities. On the other side of the spectrum, being too different from your opponent doesn’t immediately mean that the fight is going to be interesting. Like yeah a Sword Vs Sword fight is cool, and a Brawler Vs Brawler fight is also cool, but do I really want to see a Sword Vs Brawler fight just because they’re different? 069, 173, and 682 have all stalemated each other in a 1v1v1 before which is a pretty impressive feat, and has shown to have pretty strong regeneration even though the foundation is able to destroy his flesh, and he's shown the ability to act even with a partially destroyed body.
But 069 does have a termination log, basically you have to destroy his bones. Which they do by having be exposed to 173 for a long enough period of time long enough for 173's neck snapping to wear through the durability of his spine and then pump his bones fill of hydrofloric acid.
Tooru dies if anybody can break through his calamities, which as shown in Jojolion, requires an esoteric form of attack that ignores the laws of the world.
I don't know if 069 has a feat capable of breaking through universes or dimensional barriers, but if he can I think he wins, if he can't Tooru breaks through the high, but not invulnerable durability of his bones.
I’m pretty sure it’s more liked because it was good and Flash Vs Quicksilver sucked. They were cute with the blue and red speed lines but everything else was garbage. Wally Vs Archienic is liked a lot more than that fight too, and it’s not because they differ wildly in powersets.
Not really, no. If the execution was pulled off well and they actually used more of their powers, since both of them have stuff beyond being “fast”, then it would’ve been an interesting idea and an interesting product. They just half assed it so it was a potentially interesting idea and a completely snooze worthy product.
The biggest problem with the fight is that it's not even remotely close, and the winner is a foregone conclusion to anyone who even knows who these characters are. Probably the biggest and most obvious stomp in DB history.

They don’t, in your own story Tails repeatedly says that the ruby’s power is “cognitive friction energy”. Interpret that how you like, but cognitive kinda makes it clear it’s all in their head. In the final story Tails also says if they step into his reality-warping bubble they’ll be “brainwashed again”, and as soon as the ruby is destroyed they all get their original memories back. It was all brainwashing.

Although like most statements about it's origin it's dubious if Eggman actually did make it, but it is also said to be stronger than the Master Emerald.
It's probably a case of it's illusions being real and overwriting reality, only really limited by it's user, that and the illusions do appear to have mass, force, and the ruby is also said to warp space time. Also I don't know how mind control is supposed to send someone flying with a kick or inflict physical damage, but the phantom clones do which is further proof towards the ruby's illusions being real.

Well for feats, he one shots a base Sonic.
Base Sonic gets stronger in between games and is capable of taking on previous villains like Perfect Chaos in Generations when he previously needed his super form to beat.
Eggman also states in the comics that the ruby is stronger by the master emerald to such a degree he won't need it, and again time and time again in the games the illusions are shown to be real and physical.
Infinite is also called the strongest villain up to that point out of universe in promotional materiel, and by the series writers.

In Forces on its own maybe, but they kinda fricked it up and tried to claim the deus ex machina from Mania is the same Phantom Ruby from Forces, and the mania one does very real things like teleport people and create changes that persist even without the Ruby.

When it's the latter, it's really just a case of "they have the same powers, but which is stronger", whereas it's more interesting when the powers conflict and you have to really think about who would win.

Even same franchise fights like Meta Vs Carolina and the MMBR had the characters use entirely different weaponry and moves from one another despite being similar at a glance. Powersets are only an issue if you’re doing a Flash Vs Quicksilver where you don’t actually use either characters cooler abilities. On the other side of the spectrum, being too different from your opponent doesn’t immediately mean that the fight is going to be interesting. Like yeah a Sword Vs Sword fight is cool, and a Brawler Vs Brawler fight is also cool, but do I really want to see a Sword Vs Brawler fight just because they’re different? Weeeeelllllll

First and foremost, a matchup should tell a story. The execution of the story is up Death Battle itself, but some themes and story outlines are easier to pull off or have greater potential or higher ceilings if done well. By and large, this is why thematic connections are important: they provide an elevator pitch for the story being told by the meeting and fight between the two. Usually, people with similar powers do have similar roles in the plot and temperaments, as the powers are part of the shorthand for the personality of the character. Similar powers is generally a lazy and easy shorthand to finding characters whose themes overlap. I do agree it gets kind of stale, but there are characters with similar powers out there whose contrasts otherwise in terms of story, personality, and symbolism can make for good suggestions and provide ripe ground for an interesting story to be told. But I also agree it might be nice to just guys who just completely contrast, and oddly enough the SCP vs Jojo match is one that fits that bill.

069, 173, and 682 have all stalemated each other in a 1v1v1 before which is a pretty impressive feat, and has shown to have pretty strong regeneration even though the foundation is able to destroy his flesh, and he's shown the ability to act even with a partially destroyed body.
But 069 does have a termination log, basically you have to destroy his bones. Which they do by having be exposed to 173 for a long enough period of time long enough for 173's neck snapping to wear through the durability of his spine and then pump his bones fill of hydrofloric acid.
Tooru dies if anybody can break through his calamities, which as shown in Jojolion, requires an esoteric form of attack that ignores the laws of the world.
I don't know if 069 has a feat capable of breaking through universes or dimensional barriers, but if he can I think he wins, if he can't Tooru breaks through the high, but not invulnerable durability of his bones.
