Well I think it aligns fairly well with how Frieza up to that point is depicted. He's so much raw power that he needed to use power limiting forms, but he also has no real proficiency with fighting. That combination would indicate that Frieza only has a rudimentary amount of ki control. By attempting to hold back on the amount of energy he would need to destroy Namek without injuring himself in the resultant blast (since Durability ≈ Attack Power in regards to Dragon Ball's general rules), he accidentally held back too much.
Now could he have tried again? Yes, but he was goaded back into a fight by Goku after his 5 minutes statement and explanation that he could survive in space.

So question? Do we know the kill count for Superman, Goku or Godzilla? Like, they've destroyed planets and major cities, and we don't know the defenite body count, right? I know Ultraman, in the second episode of the 1966 show, killed 3 Billion aliens (in cold blood while they where in cryo sleep), then in a later episode, killed an additional 8 billion of the same species.
I'd imagine it goes Godzilla, Superman, then Goku. While Godzilla doesn't have a definite body count, just the monsters he killed brings him over Superman and Goku's intentional kills. If you start counting collateral, Goku will still be lowest, and it'll be a tough race between Supes and Zilla. If you count deaths they could prevent, but didn't, I imagine Superman edges out because every violent crime death he could have stopped(ie while not actively stopping another one) has to be astronomical, because even adding it what other monsters do, Godzilla only trots out once a year, so the numbers are in the tens of thousands a year, while Superman has had nearly 100 years of active murders to try to stop. Goku gets a bit hairy, because you if you count all the death that happened because of him that got undone, he should have ten full universes worth of the dead on his hands. But if you only count the actually dead, I imagine you aren't getting more than 10k, from things like not stopping Majin Vegeta.

Vegeta was introduced as a planet buster with a power level (PL) of 18,000. Recoome had a PL of over 30,000 and lost to Yamcha in the anime. Tien defeated both Burter and Jeice a feat Ginyu said would require a PL of over 60,000.. It's wild that people still try to reject the idea of characters with higher power levels being more powerful, despite that literally being it's purpose

No. First Form Frieza was casually planetary.
That’s a weird inconsistency. First form Frieza effortlessly blows up Planet Vegeta despite active resistance, but max power Frieza can’t destroy midget planet Namek without a considerable delay (even if we accept the detonation only took 5 minutes). Even for an inconsistent series like Dragon Ball that always struck me as strange
to be fair, frieza did say he held back on that blast a little too much. but his forms exist to suppress his power in the first place, so it couldn't have been that little of his power. it would utterly defeat the purpose of the whole transformation shebang if his final form was capable of such fine tuning that it outputs lesser power than his first form. and then goku said "heh, bet you're afraid of the planet exploding", which made sense in his head, meaning namek blowing up on frieza's face was a serious threat to him from goku's perspective. and goku knew how strong frieza was.
some say frieza tanked the explosion no problem because he wasn't disintegrated... but yamcha wasn't disintegrated by that saibaman and he still died so that bit is moot IMO.

Well I think it aligns fairly well with how Frieza up to that point is depicted. He's so much raw power that he needed to use power limiting forms, but he also has no real proficiency with fighting. That combination would indicate that Frieza only has a rudimentary amount of ki control. By attempting to hold back on the amount of energy he would need to destroy Namek without injuring himself in the resultant blast (since Durability ≈ Attack Power in regards to Dragon Ball's general rules), he accidentally held back too much.
Now could he have tried again? Yes, but he was goaded back into a fight by Goku after his 5 minutes statement and explanation that he could survive in space.
Frieza’s Ki Control was likely garbage back during the Namek Saga since he never had a reason to try and actually improve since he was miles ahead of everyone else in the universe (everyone who was active at least).

If you start counting collateral, Goku will still be lowest, and it'll be a tough race between Supes and Zilla. If you count deaths they could prevent, but didn't, I imagine Superman edges out because every violent crime death he could have stopped(ie while not actively stopping another one) has to be astronomical, because even adding it what other monsters do, Godzilla only trots out once a year, so the numbers are in the tens of thousands a year, while Superman has had nearly 100 years of active murders to try to stop. Goku gets a bit hairy, because you if you count all the death that happened because of him that got undone, he should have ten full universes worth of the dead on his hands. But if you only count the actually dead, I imagine you aren't getting more than 10k, from things like not stopping Majin Vegeta.
