I hate that Cromartie's 1st anime episode leaves the viewer hanging on a couple of simple and key plot points or exposition when Kamiyama narrates "well you'll just have to read the manga to understand that!" It's the manzai routine type of thing, or a character over explaining something for the "joke" This scene would be a lot more funny if yuko wasn't describing everything happening and the scene could just play out,
manzai style is perfectly fine, it's as you say when the joke is over-explained is when the audience feels spoon fed.
This may be sacrilege to say that Bobobo-bobo-bobo should have done something differently, but that show would improve so well if Beauty wasn't so good at being a parody of the "anime girl who stands off to the side, does nothing, and comments on everything surprised." As someone who hasn't watched Lucky Star, what "league" is that? OG Dragon Ball for me was a top notch fun adventure series that soured into a generic shonen for adolescent chimpanzees who get off on power creeps. Z was a monument to that, raping the genre into hard alien sci-fi shit mixed with power creeps and super forms that become useless by the next saga, relying mostly on hype that never delivers and nostalgic goodwill. You can't even think cool shit about previous characters because of all the power creeps in between. If Z, never mind Dragon Ball first came out in the 2010's with that DBS animation you best believe it wouldn't be as big of a hit

I mean if it doesn’t then there’s no way for anyone to know if the author is aware about how hot it is.

For some reason sharp Japanese humor is reserved for manga. I have no clue why.
You can see it very clearly with Pop Team Epic and it's adaptation. Tons of clever jokes, totally neutered by having their context fricked with to fit an episode narrative and comedic timing flubbed by voice actors that probably never saw the original strips.
Good Japanese humor is quick, blunt, snappy. If there's a pop culture reference, it needs to be brief, then things move in. I guess those things aren't really beneficial to filling air time.

To be fair 4koma comedy manga seems to be treated with a lot more respect in Japan than newspaper strips, which is probably our most close comparison. Only the really big ones over here get much reverence (Peanuts, Garfield, Baby Blues). In Japan they run In the same magazines as regular manga and randomly get picked up for anime too.

Yes, easily. Anime can do absurdity but it can't do caricature. The medium's stringent stylistic sameyness inherently limits it's comedic potential, especially in character design. Comedy, even if poor, is usually 2nd nature to cartoons as opposed to anime where one that's got serviceable humor is by and far the exception and not the rule. Most anime humor lacks the same punch to their punchlines.

This is likely a fairly significant reason why the first Goku vs Superman explicitly ruled out power scaling as a way of determining actual ability, and I do personally feel they should return in part to that policy since it prevents their debates from becoming universe vs universe. Vs Debating itself as a hobby is fine, though.

A lot of crossovers don't have lore to explain the crossovers at all (many phone game collabs like Puzzles and Dragons), explain the crossover as being references to something that is fictional in that universe (Crossover costumes in Phantasy Star Online 2) or just create a new universe with it's own lore separate from everything else (Super Robot Wars, Smash Brothers) for the crossover to take place in.
Things like Fortnite's DC crossover being the canon confirmation that The Batman Who Laughs came back after Death Metal is a pretty different approach to crossovers. I'm guessing it's to increase engagement by making fanboys take it seriously as canon.

I hate that Cromartie's 1st anime episode leaves the viewer hanging on a couple of simple and key plot points or exposition when Kamiyama narrates "well you'll just have to read the manga to understand that!" As someone who hasn't watched Lucky Star, what "league" is that? OG Dragon Ball for me was a top notch fun adventure series that soured into a generic shonen for adolescent chimpanzees who get off on power creeps. Z was a monument to that, raping the genre into hard alien sci-fi shit mixed with power creeps and super forms that become useless by the next saga, relying mostly on hype that never delivers and nostalgic goodwill. You can't even think cool shit about previous characters because of all the power creeps in between. If Z, never mind Dragon Ball first came out in the 2010's with that DBS animation you best believe it wouldn't be as big of a hit

To be fair 4koma comedy manga seems to be treated with a lot more respect in Japan than newspaper strips, which is probably our most close comparison. Only the really big ones over here get much reverence (Peanuts, Garfield, Baby Blues). In Japan they run In the same magazines as regular manga and randomly get picked up for anime too.

Yes, easily. Anime can do absurdity but it can't do caricature. The medium's stringent stylistic sameyness inherently limits it's comedic potential, especially in character design. Comedy, even if poor, is usually 2nd nature to cartoons as opposed to anime where one that's got serviceable humor is by and far the exception and not the rule. Most anime humor lacks the same punch to their punchlines.

This is likely a fairly significant reason why the first Goku vs Superman explicitly ruled out power scaling as a way of determining actual ability, and I do personally feel they should return in part to that policy since it prevents their debates from becoming universe vs universe. Vs Debating itself as a hobby is fine, though.

A lot of crossovers don't have lore to explain the crossovers at all (many phone game collabs like Puzzles and Dragons), explain the crossover as being references to something that is fictional in that universe (Crossover costumes in Phantasy Star Online 2) or just create a new universe with it's own lore separate from everything else (Super Robot Wars, Smash Brothers) for the crossover to take place in.
Things like Fortnite's DC crossover being the canon confirmation that The Batman Who Laughs came back after Death Metal is a pretty different approach to crossovers. I'm guessing it's to increase engagement by making fanboys take it seriously as canon.
Or even in some cases just have the characters cross into THAT universe for a bit like Symphogear doees
