The only thing they have in common is being godly entities who devour the universe. Galactus does it because he's part of the natural order and will give back what he takes at the next big bang. That helps make their match more thematic IMO, they do the same thing, yet their reasons for doing so are the complete opposite, it's fitting that a man who devours parts of the universe because he's part of it and will eventually make up for it is pitted against a selfish God that wants everything gone out of spite.

I think Unicron is slightly older than Galactus, but Galan was a scientist and it's not like Unicron usually bothers with plans more complex than 'slowly float towards Cybertron'.
Galactus should be smarter, and it shows in how he keeps a solar system sized science lab with him. The universe to Unicron is something to destroy, but Galactus retained some of his scientific curiosity. He knows how the cosmos works in a way Unicron fundamentally can't.

Also yes Moroha cuts a moon in half in the Anime’s S1 finale. She was power amped by the soul of Inu No Taisho at the time though, it’s not something she can normally do. Her opponent was also then able to block her attacks.

In the S2 Finale Sesshōmaru was pretty handily blitzing and overpowering an AMPED version of the character who was blocking and dodging Moroha’s moon-cutting attacks. Yashahime really boosted the verse, so the manga having characters throwing out Black Hole attacks wouldn’t even be that surprising.
They’re also just outright called Black Holes in the Viz Translation to further drive it home.

I think reception to these is heavily dependent on how badly they embarrass the loser in the end and how that loser was perceived by their fans, Ben vs. Hal got as much flak as it did because Hal snipped Ben's arm off then crushed him under a boot like a fricking ant and people really like Ben while the mindset of GL being a jobber was still pretty prevalent at the time. Meanwhile people liked this one because it was more respectful at least than Goku getting no-sold and having his brains fried, with Homelander and Carol nobody gave a shit because one's a joke and the other is generally disliked as a character

So really it should be an '=' rather than a '+' as Goku's diversity is cancelled out by Superman's counters and Superman's counters aren't as effective with Goku's diversity still allowing him options.
I would also say the point on Superman having superior stamina or Goku having 'limited Ki energy' is a bit...off. Because Goku can absorb energy pretty easily. It was entirely possible for him to do something like absorb Superman's Super Flare, thereby prompting Superman to fly off with his remaining energy and sundip and leading to the finale. Goku should also have Stamina-based hax but I guess they just still don't accept DBH mechanics as hax (even though it's acknowledged in various DBH media even by Goku himself).

That, and the entire fight was just sick. Super meshed well with the ending section and the final beam clash/swim. Also I’ve noticed that DB does a better job at combining Dragon Ball moves than official canon at times.

Issue remains that Goku as a character is still heavily defined by, in every medium, him actually being defeatable by a sane and reasonable metric because of very defined things, Saiyans can't breathe in space, Goku needs X to instant transmission or do a Spirit Bomb, etc. while with Superman half of his shit is so nebulous and insane that it's near impossible to have any way of consistently winning against a version of him that takes ALL of those things into account because you'll ultimately just end up in a "nuh uh my sword is Infinity +1" situation until you inevitably run into someone posting a panel of Goku in his strongest form getting oneshot by Frieza or shot by a laser or something with no counter for a Superman with access to literally all his best feats

Invincible characters suck ass in death battle. They have no choreography potential. They can only punch hard and soar fast. No laser beams, no elemental powers, not even cool martial arts techniques to spice up how they mindlessly bludgeon each other, or resistances to show off against more versatile foes. The powers are so lacking that flying bricks conquered the universe, because apparently the only being that can disintegrate atoms or some shit has that gimped in combat as well. There is also the tonal clash for their opponents; is Omni-Man supposed to rip Bardock's guts out? That's not how violence in Dragon Ball looks. Mark gibbing Luke Skywalker would be jarring as well. I don't know why this setting was made as lame as possible.

Apparently they said Kryptonians vs Saiyans are basically off the table now. Goku vs Superman is more or less the definitive take on it. So I don't think we're getting Gohan vs Jon or anything like that anytime soon. I have to wonder how far that goes with non-Saiyan Dragon Ball characters. Either way. Probably for the best.
With that in mind, it does seem like the most logical next steps would be Bardock vs Omniman, possibly Gohan vs Mark (which seems too one-sided even with Spawn scaling but who knows) and I guess there's that Goku vs Jin Mori matchup I've heard of.
My personal hope? More villain matchups. I doubt Freeza is getting anything too soon (especially since the next arc is starting up and will probably expand on Black Freeza) but we could easily get a Cell matchup cracking. Or give GT some respect with Baby or Omega Shenron.

We went from them saying macrocosms are 13x universal (Freeza vs Megatron) to saying they were...what was it? Over 1,500x universal? In Goku vs Superman.
Death Battle research isn't really that relevant. They can have Goku fight Sonic and go "Hmm we want Goku to win" so they'll say Heroes is actually a super complex multiverse that's like 8D or something and Goku will beat Sonic. Same thing with Marvel or even DC (if they ever suddenly decided they want to make DC characters lose).
Same logic obviously applies with Saint Seiya. Goku could win but if they want to keep the loser train going they'll come up with a justification for him to lose.
If they have Goku lose to anyone other than Superman after getting handed 3 L's in a row I think they might actually cost themselves some Dragon Ball viewers, at least with Superman he's one of the strongest contestants to date, if Goku gets fed to anyone lesser than him the fans won't be able to say "ah well of course he was gonna lose to one of the strongest characters in fiction".
I doubt they would have him lose to a non-Superman opponent but if they wanted to, they could easily justify it using any logic they desire. I'm not even sure if there are any real satisfying opponents for Goku to finally beat. Beating that Jin Mori (Mori Jin?) character isn't going to be that exciting for Dragon CHADS. They could have him fight and beat a Saint Seiya character (which I don't know much about) and that would get a huge South American audience but I don't think too much of the English-speaking world gives a shit about that matchup.
Will Goku win his next match? Probably. Is it going to be anywhere as exciting or rewarding as the idea of him beating a powerful capeshit character? Nope.

Comparatively the Chosen Undead's setting, Dark Souls, inherently revolves around the undeath curse and the tagline is 'Prepare to Die'. The Chosen Undead isn't expected to canonically win every fight on the first go. The Chosen Undead can die endlessly before winning even a single time against an opponent who is really skilled or is really powerful but has an exploitable weakness.
Essentially speaking, 'death' as a mechanic means nothing to Dragonborn scaling (as it is just a mechanic and narratively he doesn't die in the story) whereas the Chosen Undead has death as a mechanic of his narrative and can easily die continually against the countless dangers of his setting before finally overcoming them.
Can the Chosen Undead die to a horde of rats over and over again and still manage to beat Gwyn? Yes. Can the Dragonborn die to a horde of rats again and again and still beat Alduin? Frick no. Chosen Undead can canonically die to his enemies, the Dragonborn inherently cannot.

Comparatively the Dragonborn gets +10 to a selected attribute per level up. By the base cap of 81, that's +810 attributes. If you spread that out evenly that's 810 / 3 = 370 Health, Magicka and Stamina.
Then factor in the Dragonborn's armor. By lategame you're probably rocking Daedric or Dragonbone gear which would give around 70% damage reduction. Even if you assume it's Dragonscale (strongest light armor) that's still 55% damage reduction. Meaning a giant's strongest blows would only deal 108 damage at the most.
So in short, no. a giant isn't going to one shot the Dragonborn by endgame. I'm not even factoring in a billion other things that makes the matchup even easier.

That's very simple. It's because the story doesn't factor any of that shit in. An example is, say, Devil May Cry. Dante can effortlessly slaughter hordes of demons with zero issue in the story, including the vast majority of bosses. In the game? He can easily die to any demon at any moment if you're not careful.
