They may look cool but they job constantly. If they're supposed to be the elite of the elite, (Stormtroopers are supposedly already elite, and Death Troopers are elite Stormtroopers), they why do they lose all the fricking time? The only time they've ever given protagonists any trouble was when they were undead in Ahsoka, and that had nothing to do with them being better trained or more experienced.

Imperial Military Intelligence and the Imperial Security Bureau are different. Imperial Military Intelligence is for military matters. Imperial Security Bureau is for internal state security.
Imperial Military Intelligence = CIA
Imperial Security Bureau = FBI

nah in star wars there is only just the state, the empire has no geopolitical rival. there's semi/quasi-autonomous 'states' like hutt space that are outside the primary sphere of influence, and i think the occasional remote microstate that actually shirks imperial rule (like bespin), but neither can remotely contend with the power that is the empire.
both the ISB and military intelligence are focused on the same thing, internal state security
ISB is basically the CIA though in that it is its own autonomous non-military (paramilitary) umbrella and answers directly to the executive with no other oversight. they even get granted carte blanche access to military assets after the heist.
IMI is equivalent to just each US military branch's intelligence, lumped together (except in SW's case there's only army and navy). they are integrated into their respective branches and report to military leadership (moffs, etc)

Hutt Space is the most underutilized part of Star War's setting by far.
ISB is a separate organization (formed by and reported to Palpatine), the same way the Inquisitorius is separate organization (formed by and reported to Darth Vader).

in the Star Wars universe that means they take cover when fired upon and can hit characters when their arc is completed and the plot armor is removed.

I’m guessing the design was changed for the visibility, breathing space and manoeuvrability of the actors in the costume. Real crime was that they never even used electro staffs, missed opportunity to have Obi Wan get used to his sabre again by fighting a staff wielding trooper.
I thought they were nuWars version of Dark Troopers, cyborg troopers. Hence why they are so big and speak in weird sounds.

I wonder how many different kinds of troopers there are between the new Star wars shit and the EU to fill the "stormtroopers but actually competent" role. There must be at least 8 different varieties of scary black stormtroopers. Everytime they get played up as menacing, and then die in droves as soon as there's a fight. Star Wars is a child's franchise, they'll never allow them to pose any real threat.

the only thing they're guilty of in the OT is missing the main characters a lot (which henchmen in almost every film ever are also guilty of)., and losing cohesion too easily in ROTJ after chewie steals the ATST (before that all the scenes are of ewoks getting slaughtered). even ROTJ doesn't have them job anywhere near as bad as as the filoniverse
ANH: professionally occupy Mos Eisley. allow the millenium falcon crew to escape without killing them but difficult enough to only have leia suspicious, to the sacrifice of many of their own ranks and without accidentally killing them

Range Troopers are probably my personal favorite elite trooper.
Great design that makes sense (fur for colder climate, white coloring for camo, electromagnetic boots to stay atop the train).
