A bunch of decent writers figured out a good episodic formula and found a handful of charismatic actor to act out their scripts. That's all it takes really. Pity we don't have any charismatic actors, decent writers, or audiences who would appreciate a comfy episodic series.

It still kills my how he’s supposed to be a pill head but never actually commit to what that means. He’s perfectly fine with taking one or two at a time. No snorting, no boofing, he never escalates to a hundred pills a day. It’s just not realistic of what a real pill head would do.

I'm a pillhead and only take two a day. 10mg hydrocodones. Once at 9am and one at 2pm. Before opiates I was worthless and suicidal but once I started taking them I got a job and even got a cute gf. They changed my life. Been taking them for 16 years now and my tolerance has remained exactly the same. I got a prescription from a doctor that doesn't really care, I told him I had IBS and get really bad stomach pains (which I do, so I'm not exactly lying).

I know people that take like 15 a day though. Percs and Vics you can't snort because they have tylenol in them and oxy you can't snort because of anti-abuse counter measures. If you try to crush them they just turn into a paste.

You’re using the medication in the way it’s supposed to be used. You aren’t a pillhead because you aren’t abusing pills.

You need the Roxycodone 30s to snort, they don’t have Tylenol in them. And yes I’ve seen people snort 5s, 7.5s, and 10s even with the binders. I’m telling you that you don’t know shit about people that abuse pills.

      >he never escalates to a hundred pills a day.
How does a supposed house fan manage to speed watch through an entire arc about his escalating habit, cuddly literally telling him his dosage has doubled within a few years. His team constantly remarking about his Vicodin == Candy habit. His urine incontinence, him constantly being called a junkie and doing junkie things like testing experimental drugs, cutting up and snorting more than Vicodin, taking it in his coffee, and even going as far as considering a brain implant for instant pleasure, Him nearly passing out in agony from going a week without them, And all the other “WE HAVE A MEDIUM FUNCTIONING DRUG ADDICT CHARACTER” things?

        Anonymous

        >escalating habit
That’s just it though, it doesn’t escalate. You’ve never seen a pill junkie, they don’t function like a normal person. They don’t show up for work, or have real friends. My point is that House is not a junkie, he just needs his pills to function like a normal person. He’s not an addict in any normal definition. I’ve seen what doctors look like when they are addicted to opiates and they don’t look like Greg fricking House. He’s still capable of solving complex problems.

          >He’s not an addict in any normal definition.
No, for some reason you think that junkies can only be low functioning.
The entire point of house is that he’s intelligent enough to be high functioning (at times), but not intelligent enough to not be a junkie in the first place.
No one wants to watch a show about a low functioning addict.

I think the secret is the cast had absolutely fricking stellar chemistry. No matter what combination of characters is on the screen they all play off each other very naturally. There's no moment where you're like "ugh Taub and Foreman in a room together? SNORE. Bring back House and Wilson" because despite being the two most miserable bastards on the show Taub and Foreman are still a blast to watch interact.

I don't count the last season. If I can do it with my favorite music artists I'll absolutely do it with my TV shows. The chink was a nepo cast anyways she doesn't count regardless.

If you compare them to modern day female casting they were outstanding. They weren't bad. People didn't like them because they weren't Chase/13/Taub etc.

Personally I didn’t like them because the chink is a literal personality black hole. And the “pretty” one might be the worst actress in all of acting.

They were no great actors or actresses on house except maybe Wilson. There were only great fits and great characters. The two at the end of the show were great fits. I never got tired of either of them. I did get tired of 13 and her woe is me but I'm still a girl boss bullshit and Cameron was always a terrible person, maybe one of the worst people in the history of narrative.

Naw I liked their dynamic but not because of their casting but because of the writing. I thought one of the best moments of the show was when Park and Adams were talking about Park's lack of getting men, and Park sort of lashes out with
        >So because I'm not 5'9 and pretty I don't get men?
And Adams tells Park to back the frick up and says
        >You aren't getting any and that isn't my fault
and walks off. You will never, ever see this again in modern writing; a pretty girl telling an ugly girl what the frick is up. Even season 8 has great moments.

This show would have been better if it had season-long plotlines, maybe one interesting case per season with the need to watch the entire season to understand everything that's going on.. THAT would have been kino.

This show was better than expected. Despite the way they shit on him about how he could be wrong all the time and how every illness just happens to be affecting people in NJ it is a fun watch.
The giant black dude in the beginning and the cop stories are compelling enough even though I know it's called House and he's not going down. Hopefully the seasons after 3 are okay.

I love the Vogler and Tritter arcs because they’re kinda right about House despite being dicks

I was amused that Tritter went so far just because of a thermometer in his butt. It's like they need an even bigger dickhead to come show everyone House ain't so bad.

That Tritter shit annoyed the frick out of me, House should have immediately hired a lawyer and filed suit against both Tritter and his department for harassment and overreach. Cops get away with fricking with poor people because they can’t afford a defense but House has money and power. The whole storyline was fricking stupid.

I was over at my parents place and had woken up before everyone else, so I turned on the TV and House was on. Never watched it before. I decided to watch it, on mute, since I didn't wanna wake anybody up. It was that episode where the black woman's leg is stuck under that rubble, and she dies on the way to the hospital. Don't know why but I actually shed a tear at the end of that episode.

    main cast of hot chicks
    attractive main cast men
lots of sexual tension back and forth with said hot chicks
butthole but funny doctor, lighthearted show about heavy themes
colorful colors, pleasant to look at
patient of the week focused episodes instead of a main narrative, which keeps it lighthearted and fun
(most of this goes away after season 3 which is when the show starts nosediving, also replacing the main cast was fricking stupid, i hate the replacements so much)

Character progresssion falls off hard after the writters strike and the show went on a season too long but the House formula is kino and it's difficult to get tired of it.

It's also not a show you should watch in massive sittings. It was airing during the peak of hour long, episodic TV so the writters expected you to have a break to digest each episode and miss the formula before going back.

    I mean the sub formula.
That helped, you really got to see House's individual growth with a lot of characters, in higher stake settings.

What exactly is the matter with you and this patient? Why does he intrigue you so much? Why does he piss you off so much? You had dozens of other patients, but no other has made you feel so annoyed. I know he smells weird, he's ugly, fat and doesn't care about your jokes, but does that make him so different that you have to go to great lengths to find out what's wrong about him? Unless... Unless you are projecting yourself on him. Yeah, that makes sense. He's miserable, you're miserable. He spends all day browsing Cinemaphile looking for shitposts to delete, and you spend all day there too. You're not mad because he's stopping your fun. You're mad because you see yourself in him, and you're trying to find a cure for him because that would mean you have a cure for yourself too. Then you wouldn't feel so screwed up about wasting your free time shitposting on a malasyan foot appreciation forum. But let me tell you, House. You are not like him. No matter how useless, sedentary and miserable you are, you will never be like him. Because you do it for fun. While he,... well... he does it for free.

I am currently watching it for the first time and other than Houses reddit atheism that is very 00's and just being a general fricking butthole that I don't know how Wilson and Cuddy can put up with it, it's still much better than your average modern TV show.

Also the Vicodin is weird too, I mean House is just going to pop several pills a day that have a shitload of acetaminophen and is going to fry his liver in a matter of weeks instead of taking pure Oxycodone? Maybe they did that to avoid your average moron viewer from trying to imitate him.
It's also kind of funny how doctors working on a prestigious hospital in one of the richest parts of the country have money problems as if they are not clearing 200K easy.

I'm pretty sure it is stated that the doctors working under house are doing fellowships (meaning they make awful money) and that the whole diagnostic medicine department of the hospital loses them shitloads of money, especially considering the malpractice liability of having House on staff.
