They're fun and I don't regret spending time watching them every once in a while
also the pod race is the best sound editing in any film sequence ever made
People say this, but I really don't think so. The Vader/Obi-Wan duel is pretty perfunctory sure, but TESB's duel is great. But my issue with the prequel choreography isn't that it's bad, per se, but the spectacle rarely ever earns the amount of time spent on it. Even TPM's (which is by far the best) doesn't exactly touch a Shaw Brothers production.
they are fun and comfy, especially Revenge of the Sith
the world-building is cool, I guess
they were ambitious and broke some new ground even if they look kinda dated today
Great, I just wanted to say my thoughts. I'm not gonna defend the first two episodes, they're shit. But I think the third one is unironically better than ep4 and ep6. Ep4 is just too boring, with dumb plot that gets overlooked because it's the first installment. Ep6 is filled with goofy shit like ewoka and is too naive and idealistic.
Ep3 on the other hand is more serious (for a star wars movie that is) and shows how jedi can be corrupted, how cunning sith are, how ignorant people in power may be, instead of just showing le evil empire and le good freedom fighters. It also has good action scenes. That's how all prequels (and sequels) should've looked like.
The movies are filled with amazing artistic designs in costumes, ships, machines and planets. There is just enough in there to remind you of the OT but still so much more that it feels like a completely different era of the galaxy. The CGI was amazing for its time and some of it still holds up. The soundtrack was of course, top-tier. As jarring and unnatural as George Lucas' script writing and cinematography is, it still feels incredibly unique and easily identifiable, which makes the prequels memorable in their own way. The prequels are a perfect example of an artistic mind given free reign on their craft, without anyone telling them what to do. You see glaring mistakes and shortcomings in some of the most basic aspects of the film-making process but you also see unrestrained creative output that is refreshingly unique against the backdrop of the endless "safe" products designed by committee to sell as many tickets as possible.
Pretty much. Don't forget that George Lucas was CEO of the company and self-funding his own movies. For better or for worse, he was a filmmaking director that had complete control and wealth over the entire project. Arguably no one else in film history has ever done that, outside of maybe Walt Disney when he was alive.
I never had a problem with Jar Jar or the dialogue. It's charming and endearing.
The thing I'm not a huge fan of the overusing of "coincidence references" (ie, Greedo is Anakin's childhood friend for no reason. Stuff like that), but eh whatever.
Usually. TPM fares better, though it's still a little flat looking much like ROTJ. The obvious problem is that the sets and locations are so limited in AOTC and ROTS. Plenty of individual frames look fine or even good, but in motion there's a stiff awkwardness to everything and they're often very dull.
Gentlemen, is the Prequel cinematography/editing "boring"? What's your take on the matter? This was one of RLM's points.
I will redpill you for free my brothers in Christ. Reddit Lardass Media gaslighted everyone into thinking the horrible dvd/br versions is how people watched them at the theater. WRONG! While they were filmed with digital cameras they were later printed and chemically altered. Watching them at the theater was a different experience.
Watch this. Looks nothing like the flat shit dvd and the material used in those reviews. If you are not versed enough in film, look past the scratches. Look at the colors, contrast, and highlight glow/rolloff. Unironically most of this trailer looks better than the Disney sequels released 20 years later with gorillion tflops of processing power.
The main draw towards Star Wars is the creation of a creative universe for young people. The prequels did this better than any other movie, including the original trilogy. Each episode has unique planets, characters, machines and ships. The most commercially successful segment of Star Wars right now is the Clone Wars era because that is what resonates with children and teens, 20+ years after Episode II's debut.
It tries to tell a completely different story from the OT, pretty convincingly shows the decay and fall of the old republic, anakin's corruption by the sith is believable and takes its time, palpatine is fun as hell. There are some odd moments and plot holes, some of the dialogue is questionable, but it's still an incredibly memorable trilogy. Here we are, 17 years after it ended, *still* talking about it.
I like Qui Gon haircut, I like duel of fates, I like Dark Maul design. Thats it. I like the movie. I like the action, I like the vistas, I like ost, I like Obi Wan and no pausing and slowing them without the ost doesnt mean shit.
I also remember those cool pepsi cans. A can of frick you Black person there is nothing anyone can ever say about phantom menace that would make me unlike it.
For the record I didnt like Attack of the clones and never watched Episode III.
They're very good.
I liked them. I like clone troopers. I like battle droids. They were fun and unapologetic.
The prequels made tremendous use of Natalie Portman as well as Yoda, which was enjoyable
1>3>2
KISS MY DICK homosexualS
5 > 4 > 3 > 6 > 2 > 7 > 1 > 9 > 8
6 >~ 5 > 4 >~ 3 > 1 >~ Rogue One > 2 > Solo > 7 > 9 > 8
In many ways the prequels are better than the original trilogy.
How so?
Indeed
no ewoks
jar jar binks
In many ways anon, can’t you read?
Lightsabers go BZZZZT
why would i ever mention RLM to defend the prequels?
the go-to cope for prequelgays is to claim that RLM's plinkett reviews were the sole reason for the negative reception the prequels got
They're fun and I don't regret spending time watching them every once in a while
also the pod race is the best sound editing in any film sequence ever made
they were at least creative
The lightsaber choreography was so much better than the older movies. I mean it's actually fricking so bad in the first two films.
>SW is about light saber duels

for god’s sake use episode numbers. no one wants to figure out acronyms when everyone knows the numbers
good worldbuilgindsiadj

Disney and RLM can suck my balls
good post

It has a coherent and consistent story that easily segways into the original trilogy, barring some minor details that only autistic fans care about.

I like pod racing. I like that the israeli caricature owned white slaves. I like the ships and Natalie’s tummy.

Oh and I like Queen Amidala and padme suits.
lore building
Clone troopers vs Droids is the greatest sci fi esque shit ever. Manufactured humans fighting robots its almost like warhammer 40k.
