too many meme actors. i refuse to believe this could be good.

also, anons, help me out here. there is a frankenstein movie i want to find and i forgot which one it was. there are like dozens. this might have been straight to tv. in it, frankenstein makes a device that basically copies whatever is in it, so when he puts his arm in the device, you see an arm in the tank. eventually he puts himself in the device and makes a copy, but something goes wrong, which is why his monster is all messed up. other than this detail, it follows the original story pretty closely.
i know this description is shit, but if anyone knows which one it was, that would be amazing. was early to mids 90s i saw this as a kid.

James Whale, the original director of Frankenstein, was gay and I'm sure that Del Toro is going to inject that as a homage to him.

Frankenstein goes mad only after his wife is killed, and it's the torment of her being harmed they drives him into the Orkneys or wherever. I don't doubt the story can be re explored with him being gay (they do it in penny dreadful) but it doesn't work as well if his actual lover dies first

I'm split. Del Toro can make a really beautiful scene, and the actual book is more of a tour guide to the city than horror. But he's also great at taking a left turn where there's no road, so it might suck too.

                Anonymous

Bonham Carter gets the Bride treatment, but acts like a spastic. She gets her head set on fire--I shit you not--and proceeds to not die for the next several minutes as she sprints through all the House Frankenstein sets and burns them all down. It then proceeds to end as in the book, but with a truly cheap looking soundstage/watertank setpiece of loud bombast and hamfisted acting by both DeNiro and Branagh. You're glad to see them both die by the end, but still feel somewhat hollow at the finale having wasted the time and attention on something so undeserving.

Just dreadful stuff, but hilarious in how much you can see the ego-mad dream come apart at the seams.

It begins with an exhausted, dying Frankenstein recounting his story to the crew he is with in the north pole and it ends with the creature saddened that he drove his father to die that he self-immolates along with the corpse.

Shape of Water was good. Pacific Rim is a guilty pleasure, I feel the third act really drags and the setting (underwater) was not utilized well. Otherwise it is pure joy, that robot vs kaiju action in the city is fricking KINO.

Van Helsing's (2004) Frankenstein is the best.
On the other hand be prepared to see how Del Toro's writting team make him bisexual or something and turn the whole movie into a failed attempt of humanizing the monster and force the audience to feel pity on a empty character, with an extra and unnecessary Hideo Kojima kameo.
