    >editorial constantly trying to crown miles as the new spider-man
Are they ever going to realise this won't work and stop? I get that Into The Spider-Verse emboldened them, but that had plenty of Peter(s), so it's not like it's a go sign. I don't even dislike Miles and he doesn't annoy me; I'm largely apathetic towards him and tend to forget he exists when he isn't on-screen. I'm more bewildered by the pushing. Doesn't shit like making him a Thor in the multiverse also dilute the idea he's a legit Spider-Man successor? He'll get a rep being being a mimic at this rate.

Did they ever go anywhere with the whole branding shit in the comics a while back? I don't follow them closely.

What's weirder is that they're doing the exact same shit with Gwen Stacy. Except minus the whole "stunning and brave" shilling.

Miles will never be a real Spider-Man. He will always need Peter's validation as a real Spider-Man. This is not a Jaime Reyes situation where you can easily tweak the origin story to remove Ted Kord or change his role to an eccentric billionaire who acts as support. It's not even a Wally West situation where fewer average consumers at the time knew the civilian name of the character so a show like Justice League could port Barry's origins onto the current comic's Flash. People know Peter Parker is Spider-Man, they know he's a white dude.

Peter will tell Miles that he's ready and it's finally time to be his own Spider-Man. Again. And again. And again. His biggest stories will always involve Peter, fighting Peter's foes, or needing to prove he can do something without Peter's supervision. Pathetically, he can never not be called Spider-Man, because then no one would care. The essence of his character is being PoC Spider-Man, not a hero in his own right. Try to restructure Miles' origin without Peter, and no one would care. It's a literal reskin.

More subtly, Peter is intrinsically kind of israeli/catholic, and people might not notice this, but their brains do. Miles being a biracial character intended to represent multicultural New York but produced by a white man is intrinsic to his own character as well, and will forever be a huge hurdle for him to actually stick the landing. Why the frick to you think people clamor for more Static Shock to this day but groan every time Miles shows up? People don't like feeling cognitive dissonance.

Adding to what I said about Wally; Wally West is a great example to cite because he's one of the longer standing successors in comics. Identical powers, origin is literally recreating Barry's experiment, acted as a protege beforehand, and the general audience didn't know what Fash looked like or what his personality was under the mask so there's nothing jarring about another white guy jumping into the role. Yet despite ALL this, Wally was eventually dumped from the main Flash role and Barry returned. Tell me what hope any other carbon copy replacement has? Let alone a copy that exists ALONGSIDE the original.

The only reason other Robins have a shot in future adaptations of Batman is because the first one's name is Dick.

Wally is back after the previous 2 crisis though, also DC have 3 active The Flash.

            Anonymous

Barry will always be the one focused on in adaptation. Wally will always be tied to Barry. Should Wally exist in adaptation without Barry, he must steal from Barry. Barry will always take the spotlight back. Wally went further than most and is generally the more valued Flash by active fans but even he is shackled.

Also comics sell like trash and needing to explain that there are three Flashes who have all been written by countless different writers but all need to be Flash in order to appease different generations of fans is why those comics sell like trash.

Although the idea of Wally definitively stealing back the Flash identity forever because Ezra Miller might be fricking Barry into oblivion is hilarious. An irl example of Hank Pym's slap tainting a character. Pivoting to Wally in order to not recast Ezra would almost work. I doubt they'd roll with that though.

I need to understand your persecution complex. How is Miles replacing Peter if he's an alternate refugee that has his own comic and appeared in the main one less than 4 times? Why do you ignore characters who replaced Peter like Otto and Ben?

What I'd love to know is, how do they even come to the conclusion of Miles "replacing" Peter just because he shares the Spider-Man name. DC has multiple Flashes, multiple Green Lanterns from Earth, at a point had both Bruce and Dick sharing the Batman mantle, Marvel has multiple Novas from Earth, multiple Hulks, the list goes on. Hell it has had multiple Spider-Men over the years, yet somehow Miles is a problem even when he only gets his own book and Champions while Peter is the one that they'll give multiple books to and use with hero teams and team-ups. While they'll deny it, it really comes across that they're insecure about him just because he's black
