    Right place, right time.
Geek chic was peaking in the late 00's, and he was riding high on a series of cult successes. The MCU needed a director who wasn't too expensive, understood the material, and could deliver a movie with broad appeal. Joss did just that, in his style, and made what's arguably the most important movie of the 2010s.
Trouble wasn't really him, to be honest. It's seldom the original that's the problem. It was all the attempts to ape his style, the mandate to include a goofy quip during every moment of tension, that ultimately ruined the block buster.
Remember, Whedon wrote some *incredibly* sincere stories. Firefly is about losing a war. Buffy is about growing up and realizing no one will come save you from all the awful things in the world. Even Avengers has some incredibly heartfelt moments.
But the lesson the industry learned was that you must never take anything seriously, and you must never let the audience experience a real emotion.

      >Trouble wasn't really him, to be honest.
Yes it is. His writing was shit and all Marvel movies were sold on the basis of the name brand and crippling manchild nostalgia. Nothing more than that. It could've been by a fricking monkey. The brand name, the advertising blitz and the ease of astroturfing social media at the the time is why Avengers was successful.

The first Avengers film had a good screenplay. There, I said it. Capeshit became objectively worse when Whedon was banished, because, whether Cinemaphile admits it or not, he was better than the current writers. You can't hurt me with anything you reply, I'm simply right.

Avengers 1 is so boring and uninteresting that nobody talks about it positively or negatively. Nobody talks about it at all because it's the peak of utterly forgettable.

I judge people mostly on their physical appearance but also their names. First and last. Last tells me if they're ethnic, first tells me if their parents were fricking morons. With a name like "Joss" you shouldn't expect anything but betamale cuckslop

      >Not even cancelled for sex stuff,

That's the wildest part, it was peak Me Too hysteria, so everyone just looked at headlines and assumed he was raping 13 year olds or something. You break it down and it's:

      1. His pissy wife complaining after a divorce (believe all women). 2. He had affairs with harlots who threw themselves at him to advance their careers (none have complained).
      3. He yelled and was anger prone on set.

That's it. No crimes, and borderline not even issues. The lsat point is relevant, since modern day actors and writers seem to want work to be a daycare love-fest and you NEED hard ass producers and dictors kicking everyone's ass in gear.

I think he got it harder than one might expect because he was ultimately shown to be exactly what people suspected him of being: a male "feminist" who uses the rhetoric to get in women's pants. He also had a public rep as a "nice guy" so that was shattered too. It's a bit like children's entertainers turning out to be drunks or whatever instead of moral paragons.

          >a male "feminist" who uses the rhetoric to get in women's pants.

The thing is, he's totally sincere, just a hypocrite. He supports feminism intellectually, but his dick says bang 21 year olds. People can be complex creatures, and "feminism" is just some self-serving nonsense some women cooked up, and it's impractical in the real world.

And if he wasn't a feminist, he wouldn't act super guilty, wouldn't self-impose his removal from the world of Hollywood. Instead he'd just sind someone and kepe working. The shame is what keeps him away.

The idea is that "male feminists" are just cynical conmen, trying to get laid. He's completely sincere, and believes it all, and in fact it's the deep shame and guilt about his sexuality that tears him up. The Male feminist Ideal is some completely chaste eunich who marries, has sex a few times with the wife, then that's it. It's written by idiot women who just want men to have female level sex drives and don't get it.

It's all pushed via shame, and these hetero feminist males internalize a LOT of shame.

Yep, yes, correct. He's a sincere male feminist, and I believe every single thing he said about this situation.

        >Whedon had asked Gadot to film a sexually charged scene in Justice League, but that Gadot had refused and a body double was used in her place
        >Gadot "had multiple concerns with the revised version of the film, including 'issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman.
        >The biggest clash, sources say, came when Whedon pushed Gadot to record lines she didn't like
Oh no, following the director's directions and respecting his vision. The horror. THE HORROR.

That's peak #MeToo hysteria. I don't think Gadot cares, just that her agent said she has to jump on the bandwagon to hopefully become more relevant.

            >I don't think Gadot cares
She should because this shit up there is professional career suicide stuff. Or would be in any sane world.
            >refused a "sexually charged" scene
The only one that has some legs. But maybe should have read the fricking script first, or have a clause about "sexually charged" scenes in her contract in the first place.
            >issues about her character
Who the frick cares, she's not the writer, she's not the director, she's the jobber hired to follow directions in the latest goyslop installment.
            >record lines she didn't like
Oh fricking no, she didn't like the lines. She. Didn't. Like. The. Lines. THE LINES, SANSA, THE LINES. Holy fricking shit are you kidding me?
