there's no colloquial difference in the US, but I understand what you're trying to indicate. I would disagree though, except maybe with cruise, that most of them are well above average at acting.

He had the depth, the range, unlimited worship by Tim Burton, but then came Pirates. He got complacent - it was basically a) show up, b) "act" drunk 90% of the time, c) act as a disgruntled alcoholic pirate for 10% of the time, d) get paid $50m-$90m depending on the installment. Again, and again, and again. Heard honestly may have been the best thing for the revival of his skill as an actor, but it's really just too late. He's too old, too rich, but good on him for not letting that lying b***h shit and #metoo all over him.
