Yes I'll bet they were entirely objective and should be taken as fact.

    Yes, they bought tickets.
And no, they didn't for the sequel.

I believe they got schools and charities to spend their funds and donations to take kids and college students to see these films. Was it that significant of a bump? Maybe, maybe not. The Marvels is just so bad and the MCU has been faltering for the last couple of years, so that's more likely the reason for an abysmal box office.

That one dude saw it a billion times. This time he was locked up in the looney bin.

laundered money with china for a lot of earlier ones. it stopped relationship and stopped getting billion dollar bo. can look up middle kingdom flooding and mudslides with power outages for weeks yet full theaters and box office returns. cap marvel was also teased at end of first avenegers as important to thanos stuff and then came out between end game and infinity war. everyone went to see off the hype alone and marvel could do no wrong. but mostly chinese money.

I remember something about charities buying tickets to give to young girls however, I don't buy into the Disney mass buying ticket theory. Captain Marvel made a bunch of money as it was released during peak capeshit fever where these things printed money regardless of quality.

It came out between Avengers 3 and 4. That's it. Don't buy into chudspiracy theories or you'll find yourself becoming a loser no one wants to be around.

They gave tickets away, I know because the company I was working at got a bunch to give them away to ... people who were using our product ...

They were in the middle of the Fox deal, Captain Marvel flopping or just underperforming would lower the company value and they'd have to pay several billion more for Fox. Iger decided to spend a billion to artificially boost the movie's box office instead.

It came out directly after Infinity War and people presumed it would lead into Endgame.

      This
it never had an "own" audience to begin with, just riding the storm of Infinity war and endgame.

Make sure to start checking ticket maps/actual seats in slop films when you go to the theater. They rarely if ever match and the biggest spot to look is the first few rows since actual people never buy those unless the movie is sold out. The little mermaid was the most egregious, id estimate about 80 percent of sales were spoofs at my spot.

why do you think marketing budgets have gotten so big despite the rise of vertical integration? Disney, for example, owns ESPN/ABC/FOX and all their subsidiaries. how are they spending 200 million plus on marketing? because 100/150 of that is fake ticket sales.

Almost certainly but the movie was also sandwiched between the Avengers films and everyone assumed it was connected so it got a boost.
No one cares about the nu Avengers and they now know that Brie's character is boring and she's a charisma vacuum.

I saw the original Capt Marvel in theaters, house wasn't packed but it was nearly full.
The new movie is a total disservice to the character, they take her promised conflict with the Kree Empire and condense it into a 30 second flashback so her and her friend's adult daughter can have FAMILY DRAMA.
That's the core of the entire movie, FAMILY IS COMPLICATED.
The actual action-adventure is woman directed rubbish full on "even comic science doesn't work that way" and uninteresting fights with the kid sister of the most boring of the MCU villains.

The original Captain Marvel isn't even close to my favorite MCU flick, but I was interested in seeing her take down the Supreme Intelligence, the giant Kree robots and whatever superweapons they could muster.
But no, slap fights with some Kree b***h with a hammer, and 5 individual scenes of Ms Marvel's family repeating "Oh no, you must not expose my dotter to danger!".
    Feh.

this, kinda felt like the movie was paced like
      >action
      >sad drama
      >action
      >family drama
      >action
      >drama
      >action
      >end

No they didn't. Captain Marvel came out a month before Endgame at the peak MCU hype. You could've put a 2 hour movie of Kevin Feige having diarrhea in that slot and it would've made money.

40 movies made $1b in the 2010s, compared to 3 in the 2000s and 3 in the 1990s. Maybe every studio bought their own tickets instead of only Captain Marvel, or maybe ticket price inflation and China (and a fake teaser at the end of Infinity War) made it easier to hit that number

yes, since most of the 20thCentury Fox buyout was in stock, keeping a high profile over Fox saved Disney billions of dollars

Of course everyone bought tickets for Captain Marvel. It was the movie in between Infinity War and End Game and Disney had lied and said it would be important for the plot

Disney “donating” tickets (read: buying them themselves) was openly part of the marketing campaigns for black panther and captain marvel.

Those amount no more than a few million. Same thing with churches buying tickets for fate based movies.

The last shot of Infinity War was the Captain Marvel pager and people went to watch absolutely anything Marvel back then. Now they don't. No need to over-complicate it or spout conspiracy theories.
