Did Disney really thought that another black princess movie was going to be successful after Princess And The Frog flopped?

Did Disney really thought that another black princess movie was going to be successful after Princess And The Frog flopped? No one bought Tiana dolls and no one's going to buy Asha dolls.

Neither is Belle. And The Beast is obviously not the prince of France. Probably was just a noble.

It makes me sad to know Princess and the Frog flopped
I really liked it and I thought it was great, maybe I was just not racist enough?

Everyone thought it was boring and people didn't like that Tiana spent 80% of the movie as a frog. If racism was to blame how come Will Smith was able to make so much money with his movies during this same time period?

men are less racist than women

So racist white women are to blame for this flopping?

Correct, men don't watch Disney princess shit by default unless they're nagged by their gf/wife/daughter and they're not the target demo girls and dumb women are the target demo and they're the ones ignoring it

The whole point of the princess genre is self insertion, and frankly white women aren't going relate with a black character

Disney tried to side step this by turning her into a frog for half of the movie, but girls don't want to be frog ether, only boys like wacky animals and they're not going to watch a princess movie.

      PATF didn’t flop

It didn’t flop but it made less than any of the Renaissance movies, and the stuff Pixar and DreamWorks were making at that time too.
Which was why 2D died. You could say Disney sabotaged it’s marketing with the title and placing it next to Alvin & the Chipmunks and Avatar too.

Kids didn't buy them because there really wasn't that much Tiana merchandise on shelves; retailers didn't think there would be much demand for toys that year after sales lagged the previous one after the housing market collapsed.

What little there was sold really well; PatF merchandise was like 20% of all the Disney stuff sold in 2009.

The film basically had its production budget doubled by the costs of resurrecting the 2D department after it was shut down and almost everybody laid off; if not for that, it would have been much more in line with the $500K a minute budget for Winnie the Pooh.

Plus the marketing was awful; they basically only ran ads on Disney Channel and ABC until the last second and a lot of the early ads heavily focused on Ray the Firefly rather than playing it up as a return to the Princess films the studio was known for.

    ???
Pretty sure princess and the frog is in the top 10 highest grossing animated films for the Disney studio

      In the 2000s maybe

PATF performed like a late renaissance film. But it didn’t objectively flop but disney expects every movie to make 800million regardless of budget

They didn't, they just wanted that sweet ESG money from Blackrock and Vanguard

How much better do you think Princess and the Frog would've performed had Tiana and the rest of the cast been white? Nails were already in the coffin for 2D regardless

The Disney in your mind is 100x more progressive than the Disney in real life. Disney does the bare minimum when it comes to LGBT topics. It doesn't matter if the bare minimum comes from an "LGBT council" its still the bare minimum. That entire thing is literally a ploy by Disney to try and make people like me think they care whatsoever. And here you are eating that slop up because you can't stand going a day without crying.

It was pitted against Avatar, but it was far from a flopp and is still well-received despite its criticism.
