The film Flight (2012) absolutely nailed the fatalism and ennui that is central to postmodern alcoholism. Denzel Washington gave a very believable and sympathetic performance. John Goodman was a delight and clearly having fun with his character.

Going to a 9 a.m. AA and then brunch with 2 physician friends I met in treatment last year tomorrow.
Some days are tough but I'll never regret getting sober.

Hang in there bros. Go to impatient if you need to - if you are heavy drinker you will get there regardless. Might as well walk before they make you run.
90 days is bare minimum just to get your feet back on the ground. Then you're looking at PAWS for maybe a year or so. They 2 years is when your brain really starts to heal.

This is what keeps tripping me up. I was a heavy drinker for 10 years. I just can't wrap my head around 2 years of feeling tired, depressed, bored, and unmotivated. I keep relapsing around the 30 day mark
No one does this shit alone. Talk to a doctor, get medicated with gabapentin or whatever to help with the initial withdrawals. At the very least you're going to need AA.
You should start to feel fricking amazing physically when you get sober. Especially if you get physically active, which you should. Boredom is probably the big killer, and depression will definitely be lurking. But if you stay the course you'll gain momentum and soon there will be no going back.
Again, you don't have to do this alone.
I'm going to be attending AA and doing classes. but right now where I live it will be raining for the whole month. I lost most of my friends so no reason to even leave my apartment. I'd probably still be drinking if I could be I started getting seizures from drinking so I have to stop

How much do you people drink? I know I’m an alcoholic but I can go days without drinking without too much trouble and I’ve never had seizures. I never drink at work either though I sometimes do daytime drunk on weekends
10 years+ drinking about 10 beers a day some days hard liqur mixed in. First time I had a seizure I was outside a bar smoking a cig and woke up in the hospital. Cracked my head on the pavement. Been having them any time I binge drink since then

Ok guys, I was going to get druk but I decided to clean up my place first. Then I unpacked some boxes that were sitting collecting dust for months. Then I hung up a bunch of things I've been meaning to put up. My place went from looking like a depressed guy lived there to really nice, clean, and alive. I'm really happy that I accomplished a ton of things I've been too bummed out to do for months.

Honestly drinking is just like the army preventative maintenance checks and services. You do it before, during and after. If i'm spending 3 weeks trying to wrangle a bunch of 18 year old kids how to drive a military vehicle i always had a coffee cup with whiskey because i could die at any point. So you need a sip while being an instructor.
