he was actively getting what he wanted in life, part of which includes sex. You don't become a successful man without also trying to have sex. The only exceptions are like exceptionally talented computer programmers and that's just success in terms of money

The way they did it was perfect. A hardworking guy with ambition like that is rarely an incel he just doesn't put up with female issues

I thought in the context of the narrative it made complete sense. There was no real romance, Old News Lady was a useful tool to him. He leveraged and manipulated her to succeed, it's not like 30 minutes were spent on their passion and romance. He outright tells her to frick him over a brief date scene or he'll move on.

how did you know that's what he did? for all we know they just held hands and kissed under the bed sheets

by romance u mean rape? yeah much needed

      she agreed to it

I think he did actually like her but wasn't going to put up with normal dating procedure, so he just went about it as he would anything else and dominated her. he didn't need reciprocity, just a hole he enjoyed.

Also, upon presenting the Granada Hills footage he explicitly states that part of his demands are that she do the things he asks of her when they're alone in his apartment. He gets off on the power and manipulation. You see this wrapped up nicely toward the end of the movie with his partner.

    Yes, it showed two things.
One, that the main character is not some unfeeling automaton, he desires intimacy, but he's still a sociopath willing to manipulate to get it.
Two, the news director was a stand-in for the media as a whole; the situation showed her as completely aware that this man is dangerous and yet still allured by him. This is a part of the film's mission to show the news media as unscrupulous and perfectly willing to chase some dark and sinister without caring about the consequences

find an expensive private pay therapist to see and make up some purpose in life for you to pursue. Doesn't matter how pointless it is, you just need something to pursue and strive for. I assume you didn't get your wealth through competition? You'd feel successful if you actually competed in some way. Become the best in the world at some niche hobby that also has some in-person interactions with others at some points

could rape work? that has in person interactions. I’d be competing against other rappers and rappees as well. i assume there’s some level of technique involved as well

It's a subversion of the classic "loser works his way up from the bottom story" which always involves a romance subplot.
