The god of Berserk is a fricking fusion of the Gnostic Demiurge and Lovecraft's Great Old Ones. You can't take human morals seriously knowing this, especially after being tortured for years.
The thing I like most about Berserk is the fact that it seems to be set in Medieval France and almost apostle noble antagonist is a Gilles de Rais of life. The concept of Behelit and the Eclipse reminds me of the frick of Baal-Berith and the Witches' Sabbath. Baal-Berith was the title of an amulet of Baal-Zebub that was probably a ring, or small pocket idol, representing a phallic fly with a man's face, which symbolized its wearer's alliance with the entity. The word Behelit itself is similar to Berith, perhaps they are the same since both are of Syrian origin.
The Witches' Sabbath was a party full of orgies, carnage and chaos where demons fraternized and made pacts with humans.

The Godhand were right. Like 90% of the band of the hawk had already been wiped out between the Chuder war and Midland's betrayal anyway. If Griffith didn't take the deal it would have all been for nothing.

You misinterpreted the vision; Griffith and Casca had a son together named Guts. The point of it all was to show the peaceful life Griffith could have chosen to lead had not the Godhand not manipulated him into returning to square one and rejecting that life for power instead.
If anyone is into that story, with a dark ending for the characters read Prince of nothing trilogy then the Aspect Emperor sequel series. It follows a similar vein of a leader being idolized by his followers but he doesn't care for them and will sacrifice anyone he needs to win

The thing I like most about Berserk is the fact that it seems to be set in Medieval France and almost apostle noble antagonist is a Gilles de Rais of life. The concept of Behelit and the Eclipse reminds me of the frick of Baal-Berith and the Witches' Sabbath. Baal-Berith was the title of an amulet of Baal-Zebub that was probably a ring, or small pocket idol, representing a phallic fly with a man's face, which symbolized its wearer's alliance with the entity. The word Behelit itself is similar to Berith, perhaps they are the same since both are of Syrian origin.
The Witches' Sabbath was a party full of orgies, carnage and chaos where demons fraternized and made pacts with humans.

Remember what Slan says, they are not omnipotent; some minor events or situations will change from the original or expected turn of events. Men might not have free will in Berserk, but men still fight causality.
Guts and Skull knight are the ones fighting against destiny, the unanswered question is whether they are unknowingly still inside the flow of causality or if they are somehow defying it, and I think that even the God Hand is unsure about it
