No. Anything that doesn't happen onscreen is just headcanon. The show ended with Tony alive, and that's all we know.

Butchie had him whacked to complete his takeover, leadership of the Jersey thing would fall to Paulie who would much rather fall in line under NY than die.

Carmine ordered butchie who then made a deal with patsy and Paulie.

The New York crew along with Paulie and Patsy.

Patsy would have had more to gain from having Tony around and having his lawyer son frick his lawyer daughter and make rich wop babies, and Paulie seems too loyal after his "what the frick have I done" moment in the mirror when Carmine Sr. didn't even recognize his name and he realized he was selling the guys out for nothing.

I don't think Carmine Jr. "ordered" it as

Carmine ordered butchie who then made a deal with patsy and Paulie.

It’s shown very clearly in the show

said but he knowingly set up all of the circumstances for it to happen and almost definitely signed on for allowing it to happen.

Patsy didn't have nearly the amount of connections or charisma Tony had, how far could he really have gotten with New York (even with Butchie hooking him up after selling Tony out)?

Also, this is a character that has an entire mini-arc about impulse control and making compromises; pissing in Tony's pool instead of shooting him through his window even in the drunkest state of his life, etc., he didn't survive 5 seasons by making any rash, greedy decisions after that.

They gave Tony the okay on Phil but didn't expect that the guy who whacked him would do it
    a) in front of the family like a moron
    b) in such a messy way that Phil's head is fricking crushed by the van

So seeing how much of a frickup that was, it's not hard to imagine them giving the green light on Tony as well - especially makes sense since he would be in front of his family as well. Even if they didn't Tony was fricked and would be going to prison with how many people (Carlo for example) flipped, other people in the NY/NJ mob were probably aware of how shit was going down the drain. Not to mention he wasn't exactly blameless with how he couldn't keep his dumbfrick nephew from playing hitman and escalating, plus Vito, etc etc. Tony had multiple chances to change and become a better man and since he only got worse and worse he got his brains splattered - he literally refused to have an "arc" that Christopher wanted.

I don't the way Phil went was even a factor, personally.
The NJ crew was just done. Who was left? Tony, Paulie, and Patsy. There was no reason for NY not to just behead it and absorb it, which is what Butchie wanted from the beginning anyway.

Tony's death warrant was signed at the same moment Phil's was, they were a package deal that the other players agreed on, the brutality of Phil's death might've been an excuse for Paulie and Patsy to point at and say to the rest of the remnants, hey, he went to far and that's why we couldn't protect him in the end, but I don't think it actually caused anything.

I interpreted it to him being whacked but its ambiguous on purpose, like the ending to The Thing we're not supposed to ever truly know

Anyways me and my mom watched the Sopranos, need a new series to watch with her until I make friends and get a girlfriend. Any recommendations? What are your favorite shows of all time. Is Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad any good?

Why do people say this when referring to the deaths in the sopranos? I get the characters say it because it's mobster slang but you guys aren't in the mafia so why say it?

method actors stay in character. scriptwriters do historical research. it's just fun to take on the lexicon of something in your current context. you're actually allowed to have fun sometimes, anon

Why doesn't anyone believe that Tony didn't arrest? I never hear this theory brought up despite them literally foreshadowing and building up to it at the beginning of 6b. They literally have a scene where they drop the gun charges on Tony because the feds have been building a 7 year case against Tony and the scene ends WITH A FADE TO BLACK! Yet no one seems to think he got indicted. I swear people here are fricking morons. I mean I get the point of the ending is to make you feel that there are so many possibilities on what will end Tony but I've never heard a single person ever even think or say that Tony got busted and will probably spent the rest of his life in prison. People think the members only jacket guy is a more likely ending despite it being way more fricking moronic

Because he put a gun in Butchie's face after attacking a made NYC guy. Then he helped Butchie become the boss of the family. Literally Tony at his absolute dumbest and some of the worst writing on the show.
