Shad's book is awful and poorly written and falls into all the traps he told writers not to fall into for years, and the main character is his self insert who has raped hundreds of underage girls and gets declared a hero for it.
Shad sits around uploading a dozen Knight's Watch videos an hour that are all culture war shit and wonders why people aren't watching the main channel anymore and can't put it together that his original audience was just there for swords and castles and to learn niche historical topics.
And his stance on AI art and that he calls himself a professional artist, along with that one Jazza clip from years ago, makes it clear he's so fricking jealous of his little brother's success that he has a NEED to try and one up him, instead of being a good big brother who is proud of what his little brother has built and accomplished.

I don't at all personally dislike it in a GAWD WOKENESS GONE CRAZY way, though a part of me does actually dislike pants on princess peach. Her big poofy dress and shuffling around in it feels iconic to me. Obviously nothing I'd hate the movie over, but about on par with if they didn't have Mario and Luigi in overalls.
She was fine, even though the initial marketing and trailer tried to sabotage the movie by making it seem that it was girlboss heavy and Peach is the main character over Mario.
I still much prefer videogame Peach, but having a sweet/kind female character just doesn't jive with modern Hollywood.
Galaxy 1 is a far better complete package but Galaxy 2 smooths out the rougher, more annoying bits of the gameplay.

Mario does more platforming running around Brooklyn without a car than Peach should be doing raised as a princess in the Mushroom Kingom, waited on hand and foot by the amazingly peaceful Toads, who themselves don't do much platforming and aren't very suited for it. Peach's main strengths should be wisdom and kindness, not fighting or action.
There has to be good reasons why Mario is necessary as the hero, why he deserves to be the protagonist of the story, and why Peach is essential to him, why it's important that she's rescued. The movie does worse than simply fail to do this, it outright undermines it with the way it depicts the characters.
So are you two just forgetting the Toad Town scene that has the Toads platforming around town as it is their culture and how Mario couldn't keep up with other worldly mechanisms?

Video game peach didn't go through too much development personality-wise, so I get that they tried to give her some and all, but it felt pretty generic for the current tendencies regarding female leading characters in movies. Also, her behavior is way too different from the one in the games, so it's strange seeing her act so differently in the big screen.
I think they could've made her more similar to how she acts in the game.
Regarding her appearance, I also prefer how she looks in the games, but I think her design suits her personality in the movie. She has less of a innocent and naive look, and she behaves as so in the movie.
In short, it's aight. Didn't exactly like, but didn't dislike it too much.

Unfortunately, Illumination Peach is too similar to her counterparts. You feel like you've seen her a million times before.

They could have easily used her to shit on Mario and have him be her stereotypical abusive Italian boyfriend and incompetent loser from start to end while she gave him comeuppance and then she became the main character of the franchise. Honestly, that’s what I expected instead. Would it have been stupid? Yes, but so many franchises seem to feel like they need to both demonize their major main characters and make them just laughingstocks to give their existing or new female characters a boost. While Mario was still silly at times as he often is, and Peach fights as she often does now, there was really nothing like that.
They would absolutely never do that to Mario. Not only it would be completely out of character, Nintendo wouldn't ever want them to shit on their main IP like that.
There's something really off-putting about her face. It's like they kept the corners of her mouth tucked in like in her sm64 design, but instead of just having that during a static pose, they kept it permanently. It's like they're mixing different elements of different expressions. together.
I've always seen Peach as having sort of a drunken master vibe. She's competent, she knows she's competent, but she puts on this dainty appearance so nobody else knows it. Making her obviously outwardly competent kind of just makes her bland and takes away from the appeal.

Of course it was magic, they gave heragic powers in SMB's manual, they made it look like magic in SMB2 and Smash Bros, she uses magic in the RPGs, and she even uses that same levitation power to throw Bowser out of her castle after Mario and Luigi beat him up in one of the RPGs. It really depends on the game but Peach is a great jumper herself. Not to mention that in the movie Mario hasn't reached the same level of jump skill as his game counterpart until later on in the movie as early on he's new to the Mushroom Kingdom as proven with the Toad Town scene. This makes sense as Mario never started out as being that skilled at jumping as his first games feature him outside of the Mushroom Kingdom and could only do basic skill jumping.

I don't remember the movie very well, but doesn't it end with her knocking the star away and Mario getting to save the day simply because he picked it up (also Luigi, who spent the movie in a cage, is just as skilled as Mario right away because reasons)?
she wasn't particularly likeable because they didn't let her have her guard down enough to be sweet with mario. the thing where she's consoling him about how she got everything right on the obstacle course the first time is weak. when he "dies" she's too much of a serious ruler to be sad about it so there's no emotion at all. her saying he's nobody when they start the quest is cheap humor detrimental to any semblence of a true bond like they have in the games. her talking to him at the flower garden was just "generic opening up sad backstory moment" and they even trimmed off parts. they also faded away from the one cute scene she had where the fish knocks her over when she's pulling it off mario during the montage where it actually felt sort of like her in a silly way, for like 2 fricking seconds.
She honestly would have been better if she barely had any guard at all, and was a prominently sweet and vulnerable kind of character. Peach should be close to the divine feminine. Openness allows love and positivity to flow. Radiating love, compassion, and empathy is inspiring, generating positivity is important, even if it leaves you vulnerable... She can fight without sacrificing her innate softness. The RPGs and Smash Bros already got this right! The movie has no excuse!

Mario saved the day. He beat DK and beat Bowser with his brother. Peach gushed and sang his praises after the DK fight. She gave him looks and flirted with him in the movie. She's more into him than he is in her.
There's really nothing that Mario did that Peach couldn't have done. If everything leading up to the finale was the same, but Peach got the star instead, nothing would feel out of place. They needed something to show that Mario was the one that could only do this, and not just the fact that he was the closest one to the star.

Princess Peach Showtime is the most fun i've had with vidya in a long time, and Super Radiant Peach is peak. Swordfighter Peach is really fun. Really hoping for a sequel down the road.

Mario does more platforming running around Brooklyn without a car than Peach should be doing raised as a princess in the Mushroom Kingom, waited on hand and foot by the amazingly peaceful Toads, who themselves don't do much platforming and aren't very suited for it. Peach's main strengths should be wisdom and kindness, not fighting or action.
There has to be good reasons why Mario is necessary as the hero, why he deserves to be the protagonist of the story, and why Peach is essential to him, why it's important that she's rescued. The movie does worse than simply fail to do this, it outright undermines it with the way it depicts the characters.

Sunshine doesn't even have her as ditzy; the problem is the awful line delivery. It was intended to be disbelief - think "I'M your mama?!" Because the scenario Bowser Jr. presents is clearly absurd. Due to what was probably poor direction, however, her voice actress instead makes it sound like Peach is half considering it.
In the scene where she grabs a halberd, it should have been a parasol instead.
In the scene where she kicks a cardboard cutout of Bowser, it should have been a hip thrust that ended in an explosion of hearts like her side-B in Smash Bros.
Those are the two things I would change about the movie.

Video game peach didn't go through too much development personality-wise, so I get that they tried to give her some and all, but it felt pretty generic for the current tendencies regarding female leading characters in movies. Also, her behavior is way too different from the one in the games, so it's strange seeing her act so differently in the big screen.
I think they could've made her more similar to how she acts in the game.

She really seems like you took Nintendo's Peach and squeezed her through the frame of every other female lead in modern media so she comes out a feature-less version of her original self. Unfortunately, Illumination Peach is too similar to her counterparts. You feel like you've seen her a million times before.

Of course it was magic, they gave heragic powers in SMB's manual, they made it look like magic in SMB2 and Smash Bros, she uses magic in the RPGs, and she even uses that same levitation power to throw Bowser out of her castle after Mario and Luigi beat him up in one of the RPGs. They didn't lame-ify her float into her dress proofing up with air until the Wii U.

Never on Mario's level, though. Mario is all-around good, Peach is lower tier but she can float, Toad is bad but he can be strong or fast, and Luigi is slippery and caution-oriented, but he can jump higher than Mario.

It really depends on the game but Peach is a great jumper herself. Not to mention that in the movie Mario hasn't reached the same level of jump skill as his game counterpart until later on in the movie as early on he's new to the Mushroom Kingdom as proven with the Toad Town scene. This makes sense as Mario never started out as being that skilled at jumping as his first games feature him outside of the Mushroom Kingdom and could only do basic skill jumping.

I don't remember the movie very well, but doesn't it end with her knocking the star away and Mario getting to save the day simply because he picked it up (also Luigi, who spent the movie in a cage, is just as skilled as Mario right away because reasons)?
she wasn't particularly likeable because they didn't let her have her guard down enough to be sweet with mario. the thing where she's consoling him about how she got everything right on the obstacle course the first time is weak. when he "dies" she's too much of a serious ruler to be sad about it so there's no emotion at all. her saying he's nobody when they start the quest is cheap humor detrimental to any semblence of a true bond like they have in the games. her talking to him at the flower garden was just "generic opening up sad backstory moment" and they even trimmed off parts. they also faded away from the one cute scene she had where the fish knocks her over when she's pulling it off mario during the montage where it actually felt sort of like her in a silly way, for like 2 fricking seconds.
She honestly would have been better if she barely had any guard at all, and was a prominently sweet and vulnerable kind of character. Peach should be close to the divine feminine. Mario saved the day. He beat DK and beat Bowser with his brother. Peach gushed and sang his praises after the DK fight. She gave him looks and flirted with him in the movie. She's more into him than he is in her.
