its not even just the pools, in a lot of those off boardwalk areas the dry soil layer on top is relatively thin and right below it is a layer of boiling mud, people have died or lost legs from putting their foot on dry ground only for it to punch through and get cooked instantly. Because your sock and shoe will wick up the boiling water and keep it on your flesh to keep cooking it. People take off a shoe after that and the flesh of their feet comes with it.

Yes, and there's signs everywhere this is a hostile unkempt environment & they're not responsible for your safety. So which is it??

Also, "national park" so it technically belongs to the people. If I wanna potentially boil alive, mind your biz.

Even though NPS isn't "responsible for your safety" they are still the ones that are going to have to deal with any goo that might be left of your body or medical extraction if you're unlucky enough to live which has happened. And then they gotta deal with your grieving family or a potential frivolous lawsuit. So yeah they are probably going to enforce CFRs so they don't have to go in after your gooey corpse and put their own lives at risk.
Also I figure you're being cheeky but I hope you seriously don't think that "National Park" means "place where I can do whatever I want"

      >On 7th June 2016, Psychology graduate Colin Scott and his sister Sable were travelling through a prohibited area of Yellowstone National Park, with the intent to partake in "hot potting" within one of Yellowstone's thermal pools. The day ended in tragedy when Scott accidentally fell into a hot spring within the Norris Geyser Basin, which not only ended his life but dissolved his entire body. It is known that Sable had been filming their adventures, including when her brother fell into the spring.

      >Sable filmed herself and her brother via a smartphone deviating from the boardwalk path when they came across one of the hot pools.[1][2][3][4] Colin kneeled down to examine the temperature of the spring when he suddenly slipped and fell into it.[1][4][3][2] Under normal circumstances, water temperatures at Norris Geyser reach around 93C/199F.[2] With his sister unable to rescue him, with her also suffering minor injuries in the process, Colin died from scalding as a result of the submersion within the thermal hot spring, aged 23.[1][3][2][4] Sable was unable to call for immediate assistance, as there was no mobile phone service at the basin.[1][2] Thus, Sable was forced to retreat to the nearby Ranger Museum for assistance

      >When officials reached the spring, they found remains of Scott's head, upper torso, and hands

There's a really interesting book called "Death in Yellowstone" that talks about a lot of these cases. The worst one I read was a group of friends that did the same thing while camping in the off limits area. One of them dove in and immediately got back out after being horribly burned. Before they could try to get help a massive snow storm came through and they were trapped, his friends had to try and keep him calm all night by telling him everything would be okay and singing songs. NPS tried to rescue them but they didn't make it in time and he died before anyone found them.

Before the movie came out he did a bunch of videos and interviews on YouTube, and one of them was him talking about items he owns which mean something to him. He has some prayer beads or something given to him by some Tibetan monks and the Chinese overlords did not like this, so banned the film in China.
The fact nobody knows or cares is a testament to how likeable he is, he got a free pass even though he cost the production a theoretical couple hundred million.

Why? Part of being a free country is allowing people to make bad decisions as well as good decisions, otherwise it isn't really freedom is it? Unless they're endangering another person or forcing someone to go in, there should be no criminal charges. At most there should be a small fine like a parking ticket

                >Unless they're endangering another person or forcing someone to go in
That's exactly what people are doing by wandering in there. Say a person gets boiled, NPS is responsible for launching search and rescue when they go missing, extracting the body if there is one, etc. It also has the potential to damage the natural resource the park is supposed to protect.
I agree that if people die there they should be left but unfortunately that's now how things work and the park doesn't have the power to say "welp too bad can't go look" to the angry family missing a loved one.
                >At most there should be a small fine like a parking ticket
That's exactly what it is. No one goes to federal prison for this unless they intentionally destroy something, "criminal charges" is a misleading headline to get people to read the article.

                As a Hospital, I agree!
I shouldn't HAVE to admit and treat drug & alcoholic miscreants who've injured themselves after their substance abuse into my Emergency Room! When I know they're homeless, I should be allowed to ban them entry!

                LET THEM DIE!

Let me guess; you find it legal that people without any money should get full-code, life-long treatment in a hospital. No matter what life decisions brought them there, no matter their state or reason for dementia, patients at a hospital have fuuuuuuuuuuullllllllllllll legal right to just stay in the hospital bed for the rest of their lives, regardless of their behavior or ability to pay!
Btw, threatening suicide is totally allowed and it means they get extra treatment and cannot be discharged as a result.

We’ll start sweet. Doughnuts fried in bacon grease is a rare delicacy. The French believe in butter pastries, we’ll transition to those next. From there, we’ll gradually switch to savoury. Kobe beef, served with heavy cream and butter whipped potatoes, and deep fried cauliflower. We’ll also need to restrict her movement. Calories in need to be greater than calories out, so we’ll distract her with social media, and curated streaming content. In the morning we’ll add milk-based bulking solutions to her coffee, chocolate flavoured so that it’ll be “mmm, mocha!”. Along with a serving of biscuits and sausage gravy, again substituting heavy cream for the milk in the gravy. We will also have her quit smoking, and keep a supply of pork rinds at hand to help her with the nicotine cravings. We’ll give her a warm heavy cream, banana, and honey smoothie before bed every night to “help her sleep”. 20kg Pierce? You insult me. I could add 40kg by next week.

      The National Park is protected.
It's not "protecting humans from wildlife/nature."

      It's the DIRECT OPPOSITE.
      It's "protecting wildlife/nature FROM humans."

To help fund the cost of protection, and generate a positive image of the park, tourists are allowed in ~2% of the park, during Summer months, and mostly during daytime hours only. If they pay the cost of admission.
National Parks aren't public. They're federal. And it's private.
