For all the hate Opie gets, one valuable role he had in the later days was quickly cutting off Anthony’s generic boomer politics rants. Listening to old shows now, it’s an instant skip if they’re discussing any current political issues, because there’s no humor. Ant just rants and the guys have a chuckle at how angry and offensive Ant’s take is on it. Then Opie might randomly bring on a Bobo or Lady Di call, and the show is saved.
TACS shows you what the classic show would have become without Opie. He’s only really funny when they’re fricking with shitty callers, but he was important for shutting down the rants.
