Discotek will apparently announce new licenses at Otakon and they're doing unhelpful hints again. Can we guess any this time?
Hint 1:
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1679928511765819394
> First clue!
>This is actually a really good clue based on what you take away from it.
>Catchy tune.
Buy a banner .
>Discotek
Pitzgay and his posse are summoned to this thread!
I just want Enma-kun 1973 and Grandpa Tetsujin 28 at this point. Still waiting on Battle Hackers and Tetsujin FX to get ripped at some point. I'm expecting Sharivan (although gut feeling says Jiban for some reason) will be the big toku announcement. I think the folks that did Saint's Tail also did Corrector Yui and that's /m/, maybe they'll announce that too?
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1680280561599008769
Hint 2:
>This is the type of clue where when the connection between clue and announcement is made a few of you are gonna laugh.
More Lupin feels like the obvious guess here.
Lady Georgia or Deltora Quest.
Something related to Australia.
Musashi Gundoh
I suspect the Monkey is a reference to Monkey Punch.
I was gonna say Zetsubo sensei because I remember one of the endings being all Mignola ish. But when I went to double check it's Nozomi who had the license.
saw their tweet, knew just like on the last shill thread, that you'd post a new thread
you cartoon peddlers are truly shameless lol my god
This is now an Otakon thread. Who's going? Anyone want to meet up before or after the Kawamori/Terada/Big West panels?
Also who was running the panel last year that showed Labyrinth of Time? It wasn't Big West, but it was someone in the industry.
I know they brought up something about videogame anime are a hard sell, but they are my only hope in seeing the entire Rockman.exe/Megaman NT Warrior with proper subs.
Wouldn't surprise me if Megaman NT Warrior is the big/unexpected license they've been teasing for a few months.
>but they are my only hope in seeing the entire Rockman.exe/Megaman NT Warrior with proper subs.
Pretty sure the only thing that isn't properly subbed right now is the first half of Stream.
The 2nd half of Axess is pretty sloppy because it was made by a small team.
Didn't STE recently retouch those subs?
fricking who?
https://stesubs.wordpress.com/
This is news to me.
>they even did the movie.
Well, not from the scratch as far as I can tell, but at the very least the video is of a better quality.
So far, they only have 11 episodes left, the big one is Steam as many don't want to bother as it's mainly filler.
>Beast.
Yeah, last I checked, IHP subbed Beast + while the fist season has poor subs and quality to them.
Someone else is doing stream.
>fist season has poor subs and quality to them.
Beast's subs are good, it's the video quality that's bad.
I don't remember who was working on it but didn't they stop at like 10 or so episodes?
Hi-Cannon stopped around episode 25. IHP did the rest of stream.
>Someone else is doing stream.
Who?
I know that IHP wanted to return to do the first half, but they were slow as frick doing just the half-sized episodes of Beast+.
>I know that IHP wanted to return to do the first half, but they were slow as frick doing just the half-sized episodes of Beast+.
They're done with Beast +, They are now working on Stream.
I mean, weren't they struggling with Beast+ already? I won't be surprised if Stream would release at a pace of an episode a year if they were working on it.
It took them 4 years to pump out the rest of beast +.
>I won't be surprised if Stream would release at a pace of an episode a year if they were working on it.
So basically the same speed as /m/subs?
I might added that WPP was putting out an episode a year for the latter half of Axess (Reason being is that they didn't have a translater so they guess subbed it for some episodes) and no one b***hed about it.
Oh, no, I'm not really complaining about someone doing a good work for free.
I'm saying that it's more likely we'll see an official release or even someone else doing a decent enough makeshift release before that.
Pretty much, yeah. And Beast+ has basically a same length as a normal 12 episode show, unlike Stream.
Viz lost the masters of the frist episode and Xebec is now owned by Sunrise.
Since Xebec is part of Sunrise, I imagine licensing it is even easier now as Discotek seem to have a good relationship with them
One can hope.
All of Xebec's IPs and materials were transferred to Production IG.
>Viz lost the masters of the frist episode
That's for the dub right? If anyone would find lost masters it'd be Discotek, they're good at that.
Yeah.
Nice, They should do Beast next.
Reminder these Discotek threads serve to see what new /m/ is getting subbed.
Besides, better this than all the autistic G-Witch shitposting.
there's barely any now after the show stopped. truly insignificant
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1680645183740993536
>Tron
>"a big one"
Digimon?
They know about the time Srungle fought Tron.
Yeah, either Digimon 02 or one of the Metal Heroes series that was adapted to VR Troopers.
Savior of the Earth, the korean ripoff of Tron. It even has an English dub. Maybe the unexpected announcement is that we're gonna get a bunch of the Korean/Chinese ripoff mecha movies.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1680751988181704705
>3 hour "secret" Digimon screening
I think they might go ham on Digimon. And by go ham, I mean 2 different seasons instead of one season.
I really, really think this is the prequel OVA and Our War Game.
Oh, and maybe Hurricane Touchdown too. But no Angela Anaconda or SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME
Wait, aren't the distribution rights to those movies being held by Disney?
The only thing they would have any distribution rights for would be that edit that combined the three of them, I would assume.
>Wait, aren't the distribution rights to those movies being held by Disney?
only for the English dubs/edits I believe
Digimon is better dubbed.
Just want them to announce something completely unexpected. Something like Hell Teacher Nube, Ginga Nagareboshi Gin, and/or if Justin (finally) has the nerves and balls to do so, Touch (and H2 while he's at it.)
Here are my demands
>ROCKMAN.exe
>Kinnikuman Niisei undub version
>More Case Closed
>Zambot, Daitarn, and Trider
>Raideen
>Toei Getter Robo
>King Gainer
>Hunter x Hunter 1999
>More Brave Series
>More Leiji Matsumoto
>Project Itoh films
Will keep hoping for Neo Ranga until I die or it happens
New clue is up

>G-Man intro from Half Life 2
Gatchaman? Or does someone else already have the license for that?
Sentai still has those from when they were ADV iirc
Crying Freeman Blu-Ray
please god
any notable anime series with a character like the G-Man?
Give me what I want Discotek.
Since the recent Japanese BluRay removed the mission impossible music surely it'll finally be licensed
Are they still attending Otakon despite the SAG-AFTRA strike? They'll be there wtihout any VAs.
Anime VAs aren't part of the strike. The union ones are under a separate thing.
I'm mainly curious what this secret Digimon thing they keep hyping up is, and why it's three hours long.
Maybe they licensed the movies? Possible redub of at least the first three?
It's the CGI movie.
The madmen licensed Angelica Anaconda just to get the uncut dub of Digimon: the Movie.
If they actually do keep the Angela Anaconda short, i will laugh my ass off
Surprised you Black folk still shill here after your Gunbuster bluray was missing extras.
Please Discotek, rescue the original Tetsujin 28 anime already. Give it the sub it deserves.
I think it's possible. They managed to do the 80's series despite that one being localized as The New Adventures of Gigantor; I don't think Gigantor existing would stop Discoteck from releasing a sub only version of the original Tetsujin. Well, there's the issue of remastering the actual video and whether it would actually sell, but I would definititely buy it for the sheer novelty.
>whether it would actually sell
I think Dororo must not have sold particularly well for them, because it's the only 60s TV show they've tackled.
That definitely sold better after the remake came out even if it was just for kids to shit on the old version. I think it made money, just don't expect them to double dip on that one any time soon.
60s anime's a tricky sales proposition, but of the very few that could get a release OG Tetsujin would be it.
I avoided pretty much anything to do with the remake since remakes that scrub away the original author's style rustles my jimmies.
>60s anime's a tricky sales proposition
I kinda want Sally the Witch and Himitsu no Akko-chan just for the historical value. Both are unlikely to turn a profit though.
I'm surprised they haven't gone for more Oshii, they could even do his live action stuff.
I really fricking want to see The Red Spectacles and Kerberos on BD.
gall force original trilogy or ill kill your families
Not if the Gall Force kills themselves first!
I'm shocked AnimeEigo hasn't grabbed this one. Do the whole damn saga. You can milk that for a while.
>it's been over a year since Animeigo teased a new kickstarter and delayed it because they wanted to make sure everything was good to go
Oh wait nevermind it's Macross II and they plan to have it go live later this summer.
Didn't he say the next Kickstarter wasn't Macross II?
https://twitter.com/AnimEigo/status/1665675747195867136
It certainly explains why it took over a year of him making sure "all the legal" was sorted out.
Might as well post my Wishlist while i'm here

I’ll be surprised if this is anything other than Dallos.
Still hoping for space Saiyuki
Has Discotek licensed the entire Nanoha franchise including the TV series (titular series, A's, StrikerS) or just those movies?
Only Reflection and Detonation for now. However Discotek teased they will license more depending on the sales of those two movies.
Well, frick. They sure chose nearly the worst part of franchise to license.
Yeah. My best guess is that those movies are the most easy to license, plus never released here, so there's an incentive for established fans to get them. I like to think they are selling to Discotek's expectations since both movies have been "top seller" on RightStuf at least once.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1681747740198604801
Something related to food? Or the color purple like Grimace?
Perhaps it's related to the virus. Remember not to be so literal.
>Perhaps it's related to the virus.
Betterman perhaps in reference to Algernon?
Nah.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1682088162871615488
Imagine if this was Dai Apollon
Eyeshield 21 is the only other American football anime I can think.
Nah, that's too easy. It's an image of football, but it's actually referring to "football". Brave Police J-Decker because of Drill boy!
There's MD Geist and the protagonist's football armor. Who has the rights to that anyways?
Apparently it's in a rights issue hell at the minute which is why the Good Smile people can't release a Geist moderoid.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1682476149765726210
More Fist of the North Star? Not sure how much is left they could release.
New Fist of the North Star and Fist of the Blue Sky
Could be Digimon Adventure 02. Ken/Digimon Kaiser is the first villain.
They should just finish off the A-ko franchise.
They've already said that Versus is not happening for numerous reasons
Quick run down?
Different rights holders compared to the prior 4 movies and said rights holders are a state of "we actually don't know who it is", additionally if I recall right it wasn't in the same place as the other 4.
Yeah I remember now, different animation studio too
M.D. Geist SDBR when?
>SDBR
Don't sell yourself short.
Who has the rights to Iczer these days?
AIC rights says they still own it. Here's is their URL
http://aic-r.com/iczer-1.html
Who here Iria Mastered Edition?
I have it, I haven't had time to sit down and really watch it yet though.
Neat, looking forward to getting it myself. As far as the live movies, they're fun if you look at it as an alternative telling of an older and experienced Iria having like a reversed Isekai traveling modern Japan befriending two normal guys surviving the Zeiram and its monster horde.
Got it and watched it, looks great but not really a surprise since they had the masters. One day I'll have to watch the live action movies.
>looks great but not really a surprise since they had the masters.
I'm actually glad to hear that they did. This OVA is actually pretty special to me, effectively being my gateway anime. Or at least the first anime I consciously was aware of as anime.
>One day I'll have to watch the live action movies.
They're pretty good too. Would recommend.
homosexual who called Layzner in the last stream here, I am going to try my luck and claim that we will be getting Betterman next
It's a real damn shame she doesn't get more fanart.
No idea what any of these could be hints for. The second hint makes me think something that uses the word "Go" a lot but doesn't have it in the title?

https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1683204446548029440
The first one is Lupin III: Seven Days Rhapsody
Second one is Lupin the Third: The Alcatraz Connection. It has a 4th wall break. It's also 'related' to the Lupin license (same franchise) this anon mentioned
In all seriousness the odd of anything being a Lupin reference is generally high. It kind of feels like a pussy bet.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1683557807713554432
No clue, so let's be lazy and say it's another Lupin hint.
When is the panel?
Saturday at 12:45 EDT.
Looks like I'm sleeping through it.
It's gif from Star Trek, so maybe Harlock or any other Leiji series
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1683948672286093313
They'll be doing a pre-recorded stream at the same time as the Otakon panel for those who can't make it. Sounds like it'll go at a slower pace than the panel, but also have more details on announcements.

The first one is probably too obvious to be Slam Dunk, but who does actually own the Slam Dunk home video license right now?
I know it's not Angel's Egg, but that would be neat.
I know this might be a long shot, but i'm seriously hoping this clue is for the Sonic OVA.
>The first one is probably too obvious to be Slam Dunk, but who does actually own the Slam Dunk home video license right now?
Nobody knows, it hasn't been licensed publicly in the US in many years
Did Gall Force ever get a BD?
I'm not sure what hint would be pushing for it but beyond the obvious Digimon 02/Hosoda movie releases, I'm betting on my personal Linguini here and that they actually release Revenge of Diablomon with the English dub that aired a single time on Disney XD and never got a home release in the states.
Tomorrow seems to be the day, what snacks are we bringing to the stream?
Stream about to start on Twitch.
Any last predictions?
70s Tekkaman
KING GAINER
Overman King Gainer!
Neat

I think king gainer was unreleased at some point

Chargeman Ken coming to BD

>it's just a Chargeman Ken re-release
Come on, surely you can get Groizer X.
lol just one disc because each episode is like 7 minutes long
They considered doing a dub of Chargeman Ken, but it would've been "too dangerous"
Chargeman Ken does contain Japanese words you can no longer say on NHK TV.
気違い victory
THE LINGUINI IS REAL
4K announcements begin
Is that it? This feels spartan. No big drop. Are 4k's actually the big drops? That feels weird.
No there’s more
I took a peepee break during Chargeman. The Social Media talk made me think we were near the end.
They teased that there's something big/surprising/unexpected at the end. Possibly the Digimon stuff since they haven’t done that yet.
After SPT Layzner I'm hoping for more in that direction/that era.
Digimon wouldn’t be a big surprise tbh and pretty predictable. It’s probably something outside the box we haven’t even touched yet
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685344577602113536
Street Fighter 2 the Movie
>HD Chun Li shower
Day 1 preorder
the otakon panel ended and there's only two more things after street fighter
digimon season 2 and lady georgie.
So unless there's a reveal for the online version thing that's it.
I feel like that June stream revealed more.
they should have made one big show, both just kinda ended up not as great because of it.
Really happy for Gainer though
I think Gainer is my big want. Crying Freeman and Midnight Eye aren't things I know enough about to care about, even though they are from my "era."
Damn that sucks, was expecting more, but I guess the June stream and this one probably counts for 1 whole stream I guess.
They said they did the June stream because they had too much for Otakon. But it feels like they loaded June with bigger reveals. But that's all opinion, so it's hard to say for sure.
Unless they say season 2 is the one more thing, I’ll wait
All this shilling for nothing kek.

Lady Georgie
No Toku is disappointing.
They said more was coming last stream, so we know it's coming eventually at least
fwiw they mentioned in the panel that they have some licenses in the pipeline but they are presumably waiting to be closer to black rx's release to announce them i guess.
They just said more toku coming eventually on stream just now
Yeah I bet that's why this feels lacking.
Well there's still one last thing like they did for Layzner. We'll see.
What do you think this was gonna be?
The main draw.
Actually, jokes aside, could one of the clues relate?
You think they got it?
Probably not just like how they will never say what happened with the J9 trilogy.
Probably don't want to get sued into oblivion for violating whatever NDAs they signed.
Whatever happened though, I don't think it was because of the J9 trilogy specifically. Pretty much all of the licenses from Enoki Films got pulled suddenly.
Is Toei Getter a Japan problem as well as an international one? Something with Ishikawa's estate maybe? We've had Toeizinger blu rays for a while now but zero news on the 70s series or Getter Robo Go. Granted Toei Getter isn't Mazinger levels of popularity but it's still a big deal.
Knowing Toei I wouldn't be surprised if they lost the masters after they made the DVDs.
Honestly, I think the likeliest reason is that Toei is cheap as frick.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685350523078348800
Apparently something big didn’t get approval in time.
That sounds like something toei would do in calling off…maybe?
It's as likely to be some lawyers dragging ass.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685351031608328192
Adventure 02
>Box art is a bunch of recycled existing clip art
Do it, Discotek. You can't get more 1999 - 2000 than that.
How was the event?
it was alright, happy i can get gainer and midnight eye was the first ova i watched so i'll probably check that out as well.
besides that i felt like it was missing a big announcement that would blow me away.Maybe the one that didn't make it was going to be that but we will see in the coming months.
Honestly the "lesser" first half last month had more hype announcements for me, although I am excited for Digimon, King Gainer and Cybersix.
>02
lol
lmao
no one is buying that garbage
I probably will for the sake of completion. Probably tamers as well. And then stop. That's where my nostalgia for the anime ends. That 4th one with spirit evos I watched maybe 3 episodes and gave up as a kid.
Same.
Just watched the first three shows and that was it.
Ditto. I was never able to see 02 completely subbed, but I enjoyed what I got. Tamers is an absolute must for me.
After that is is just the end for me.
I'll buy the subbed release. I enjoyed 02 just as much as Adventure and I really want Frontier and Savers and more movies.
Same. I hated 02 for the longest time because I only had the dub as frame of reference. But when I watched it subbed many years later (and older), I loved it. Sure there were some story elements that I found were weak, but I enjoyed everything else.
It's weaker than Adventure, obviously, but I think it's fine. I actually prefer it over Tamers lol.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685351903998484480
Sounds like there might be one more Digimon announcement at the secret screening event.
>Adventure 02
Must be nice getting more Digimon, anons.
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685352895645188096
Digimon Movies
I wonder if they're keeping the star-studded soundtrack for Digimon The Movie. The music licenses have to be costly for Discotek.
From their tweet, the old dub probably has the old soundtrack. The main change is simply the removal Angelica Anaconda (which is definitely fair enough).
Angela Anaconda confirmed to be too expensive for Discotek.
First 4K Chun-Li Nipples and now dubbed versions of the Hosoda films? Holy shit, DiscoTek are gods.
Oh wow, they really did new dubs for those first movies.
I honestly thought the "preview" stream had more big announcements but whatever
https://twitter.com/discotekmedia/status/1685353906606678016
>There is no short before Digimon the Movie.
And it’s shit.
>splurged on the soundtrack
That's good.
>No Angela Anaconda
That's bad.
>Digimon the Movie has the soundtrack.
IT'S BEEN
So was gunbuster censored or not
Thankfully not, it's only
>missing multiple JP audio tracks
>missing heaps of bonus material (most of which still isn't translated)
>missing the original training music
>stuck with the new worse translation
>encoded worse because they're cramming everything on one disc
Thank you based Discotek for giving us a definitive release!
>missing heaps of bonus material (most of which still isn't translated)
Out of the loop, what was missed?
>JP seiyuu commentary on all episodes excluding 4
>Last two digital science lessons
>Full production animatic for the 5th episode (this is where the pubes are from)
>20 minute interview with Anno
>Maybe around an hour of other interviews/special features with the seiyuu and staff
>~220 slides of settei art
They were never going to compete with a 3-disc box, but it's their fault for trying to go forward with a "compromise" release. Also pretty scummy that the training music issue was seemingly not addressed at all.
>the dubs are "harmless", they might waste some production time but fricking whatever
Gunbuster's two lossless dub tracks per episode take up nearly as much space as a full episode.
Digimon, Gainer, Goku and a Oshii live action flick, not bad.
The Japanese release is also a hundred and something dollars.
I guess these shoujo releases have done well, wonder how well the magic girl shows are doing.
It's okay because it's dubbed 🙂
Didn't they not have access to any of the features though?
TBF gainax is very rigid about this stuff so it’s not really discotek at fault here
gainax is also currently ran by, what only feels right to call criminals and c**ts, so i dont expect them to do any good at all
Second, compared to the fact that they subbed GGG's extra scenes that weren't subbed before I blame Gainax more then Discotek on how Gunbuster turned out.
Not to mention they got stuff like video game cutscenes to sub. It's just the company barring them from shit like how Toei didn't include the Black or Black RX movies.
Off topic a bit, but are those films for fun, compilations, or the true endings to Black and RX? I'm thinking of grabbing those release, and I don't know what I'm in for.
Just fun one off adventures. Black RX has a crossover where he teams up with his past Black self that's cool. All the actual plot stuff happens in the TV shows, such as it is.
Yeah I'd blame Gainax honestly.
Fair enough l but you'd think Otakon would have at least something planned. Guess we'll see in 8 months or later.
I think it's fair to blame Discotek for promising the moon and under delivering. In as far as they should have been a bit more upfront about what was missing that they had originally promised. But Gainax is shit and not a real company these days, so I do agree they shit the bed.
Like the music issue feels very much some money grubbing suit at Gainax worried about having to do paperwork addressing what's clearly a parody/homage, and not a real problem.
Yeah, no, as a business standpoint you have to promote your best version of a show you can get and not say "yeah it's not great but we did are best, please buy it".
Yeah, no, that's dumb. It's poor business to promise one thing and deliver a lesser product. Look at this thread, people are still overly cheesed at Discotek for one subpar release, even with their track record of over delivering. The bad shit lingers with people. You're better off nipping it in the bud as early as you can
Here's a question, has the Gunbuster BD sold well, if not then I agree then they should've been more up front. If it sold well in spite of it not being their best release, then that's a different story. Also, they have been on record time and time again saying that they go back and released updated and improved version of their old titles, for better or worse.
>has the Gunbuster BD sold well,
It was on right stuffs top sellers list for a good while during it's pre order days. I'd assume they're pretty content with how it went.
That plus it was consistently an Amazon top seller during its preorder and early launch phases. It was even sold out a few times there. Even then, it's still there:
https://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-movies-TV-DVD-Blu-ray/zgbs/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=zg_bs_pg_2_movies-tv?_encoding=UTF8&pg=2
I'm positive that would have still happened if they were upfront. They would have also managed to skip out on bad press.
Has there been any bad press outside of here though?
Honestly I'm not sure. I do know historically it's better for companies to get ahead of any issue, and I'm tired of people harping on about it here.
Well, if they can address the issue ahead of time they would've, so they figure to release the best version they can and hope to improve on it if a future 4k version gets made.
I wonder if one of those announcements that didn't get approved was Toku related, given the pre Otakon stream made a big song and dance about new toku licences being bought
Did they forget Detective Conan exists? They haven’t announced another movie in a while now.
probably didn't sell well enough vs price of licenshing
From what they said, next Toku release won’t be for 8-12 months.
pretty happy with this batch of announcements. no toku is always a downer but they said there will be more eventually so nbd
Another announcement, another convention and my dreams of an HD release of KO Beast remain just fantasy.
imo discotek's biggest, and really my only problem, is their moronic addictions to making new dubs. has anybody ever asked for this shit? does anybody even use this shit? or is it just an easy way to slide friends and families a paycheck
It is an interesting question. I think most of their releases are the type to appeal to old grognards who would only like a dub if it has some nostalgic quality to it.
If they ever license Aika Zero I'd be okay with a dub by them.
Normies love dubs. Not even just ones their nostalgic for. They're not a selling point to you or I. But, to someone more casually into this shit, they add a good chunk of value.
I guess I'd rather see them shill a dub than talk about how they got Jim McFrick from whatever youtube channel doing a commentary track where he just reads wikipedia.
but what fricking normies are buying old as frick ovas?
>

i guess this is a good point ultimately, the dubs are "harmless", they might waste some production time but fricking whatever, im sure they have lots of downtime between talking to different japanese suits. its still just weird
You guys get so angry at a fighting game youtuber doing commentary on a fighting game ova it's hilarious. Jesus Christ, it's not like they cut anything of value to add that.
I just don't care about random youtubers. If I wanna watch them, I'll use youtube. I'd rather get commentary tracks from literally anyone involved in any leg of the production. They have no hidden insights or bring anything to the table other than the same knowledge anyone of us might have.
You tardo's think they got a rando instead of somebody actually involved on purpose?
Well they didn't get them by accident. It's not like I'm asking them to get Obari over to talk about it, but in this instance getting NOTHING probably would have been comparable to some random youtube frick who has nothing to actually add.
>Yeah I used to play these games at my local pizza hut.
Does not give you any extra insight. And they acted like it was such a hot deal.
Getting Matt McMuscles involved was probably to try to sell his fanbase on the Fatal Fury anime.
Thing is though, if people want to hear him talk about Fatal Fury he's already got stuff on his channel for free.
Plus that venn diagram seems like it would just be a circle.
>I guess I'd rather see them shill a dub than talk about how they got Jim McFrick from whatever youtube channel doing a commentary track where he just reads wikipedia.
Man what a shit announcement that was. Has anyone even listened to that commentary track? Did he have ANYTHING interesting at all to say?
I didn't. I remember the thread from when it was announced and whatever his name from Discotek popped into the thread to defend it though. That was funny.
>Why yes, I watched the new dubs as well as subs, how could you tell?
Enjoying things is fun.
Second biggest problem is double and sometimes triple dipping. "Hey hey guys look whats coming out of the vault again". Makes you wary of ever picking up something only to turn around and "new hat".
That's hardly been a problem with physical media since there's been physical media. A new version is always in the works. Movies books and albums are in a constant state of re release. And I don't just mean on newer platforms. This is a self control problem more than it is a rerelease problem.
It is a problem for niche Moon cartoons that may not get released because you didn't eat slop.
Then how about you make a company and try to get the masters of niche moon cartoons and see how easy that can be?
If I could I would and we would have blackjack and hookers.
If they don't get released then you have the version that came first. Not a problem. If they do get rereleased then you get to choose not to buy the second version because of so minor extras. So not a problem.
Dubbed stuff still sells better than undubbed stuff. Less so than ten years ago, but as long as there's a chance it'll boost sales for high profile releases I can see why they take it. I'm honestly more likely to watch a shitty thirty year old Hong Kong dub they salvaged from an obscure VCD release then I ever am a modern, more faithful redub of old material. Higher entertainment value.

Same here. A shitty dub produced in the late 70s exclusively for in-flight movies is way more interesting to me than a more accurate new dub.

Kek.
Reminds me of that thread saying that some kids' parents broke up because of Angela Anaconda.
Americans are an embarrassment, if you pay for something you should be critical of it and always expect more from whoever is selling it, but instead you defend it and apologize on their behalf.
>I sure love paying 300 USD because my Japanese company imported my favorite anime
Because that's how much Bandai has should their compete DVDs.
Good thing I didn't pay for Gunbuster then.
I don't have any loyalty to any American corporation, so long as their release of an anime isn't hundreds of dollars for not even the complete version then I'm ok with them.
That's a good mindset. Nowadays, people act like you have to swear allegiance to a company's flag and speak no ill of them. That's always been there, sure. Like DC fans VS Marvel fans and whatnot. But it feels more extreme than it used to.
Between paid shills being worried they'll stop getting goodies if they deign to give something even a constructively negative review to people who are so loyal they won't even skip out on something when they know it's a flat-out downgrade to a previous release. It just seems nuts.
Being critical is normal and healthy and people who say otherwise are consoomers of thw highest tier.
That's my take. It's why I have multiple releases of Godzilla movies. If a company does a good job with something I want then it gets my money. If not tough break I'll stick with my internet downloaded version until the day comes something better is out.
I'll also add that I'm more likely to support a smaller company that releases quality stuff over a bigger company that fumbled the ball. Something like AnimEigo or in another group of niche genre stuff, Vinegar Syndrome.
American corporate loyalty is always something I'll never understand.
On the topic of new dubs, it's up to debate on if they are good or not, but it's a nice addition to have. And at the very least they make sure to add every audio track that exist in their anime releases. To this day I hate they fact that Sentai Filmworks release of Vampire Hunter D lacks the old manga dub which I felt is better than the dub they put out for it IMO.
I don't even want to get started on the latest Eva rerelease and the shitty Netflix dub
I can't believe the made the actual decent subtitles and old dub a fricking limited edition exclusive. Just put them both on the same disc or just jettison the modern dub altogether, it won't be missed.
No Angela Anaconda no buy.
>redub the movies
>but with jap music
who is this for?
English movie was a hatchet job, kids these days expect their dubs to be faithful and accurate even for stuff they weren't around for. You think people were complaining when they released the Dragonball movies without 2000s buttrock?
>You think people were complaining when they released the Dragonball movies without 2000s buttrock?
yes?
Yeah, fair point.
Not only that, you can hardly consider this new dub "faithful and accurate" when it will still be using the Saban names/terms. And for scenes depicting their original names, this is how they will handle it:

I'm gonna be honest, anon. That's fricking hilarious.
As funny as that is, the final product will probably be more professional looking, at least when it comes to that type of editing. We don't have an official release date for the movies yet.
I'm pretty sure that is how the final product will look too. He already confirmed this "subtitle" will only show up if you switch to the dub:

>Deftones
>Buttrock
>kids these days expect their dubs to be faithful and accurate even for stuff they weren't around for.
>they are using the fricking saban goofy voices still!
>gag-dub voice cast for an uncut dub of the same roles
Apparently some additional info revealed at the in person panel and not on the livestream.
>Lady Georgie has a short licensing period.
>More Conan is currently up to TMS. Discotek wants to do more.
>Saint Tail selling really well. First batch almost sold out last they checked.
>Cybersix won't have the Japanese dub.
You sure? I was there and don't remember them saying any of that.
