I don't believe the Captain Marvel ticket thing because why would they do it once and then let so many of their next movies flop, like this one?

I don't believe in t either, but having worked at a movie theater around the time CM came out, I'm left with doubt. Even our Thursday night screening was unusually low, and only the after 6pm, weekend screenings got busy (but even That busy). A movie could do successful with those numbers, but not billion dollar successful. And the only proof that people actually saw it was that people remember seeing and notably disliking it.

They don't need to, they do it for free. They just need their guys to make most part of the rotten tomatoes score. I think Disney just didn't want to spend the money to get real people to sit in a room just to make that video, so they just got an intern to do it and add stock sound effects, just to try and salvage this turd of a movie into something vaguely edible

Ignoring the fact you are a boomer who clearly doesn't get the joke why the frick logistically would they do that? It's not a big ad, they aren't playing it at the super bowl it's just a small part of their marketing campaign. It's like making a tweet or them posting a meme and then complaining that they didn't invent their own font and instead just used the stock meme template because that is what everyone else uses because that's the fricking point of using the meme template.

                Anonymous

It's not "a meme", they're just trying to fake popular support for the extremely expensive movie that made essentially no profit, you're reading into it too much. They're not "doing a bit", they're just trying to get it out there so people might buy a ticket for sake of it, which never really works but they keep trying it. Like the fake Lady Ghostbusters outrages intended to just get people talking about the movie. They never work and they always just look pathetic, like this make-believe "oh guys everyone is loving Clod(tm)" attempt

I'm a former sound editor and I recognize that snippet of audio of a girl laughing at the 17 second mark. It's from the Hollywood Sound Effect Library, and it was also a commonly used sound effect back in the day.

Not only that but the part where this dirt clump kid thing shows his armpit, you can even hear how they used a fade in effect when the "audience" is cheering. This is so downright sad it's hilarious.
