Weird Disney mandates at the time barred pre-existing characters, they had to fight to get Chip, Dale and Jiminy in there.

Euros have been bashing Disney for being "corpo-fascist cultural imperialism" since the 1970s. They invented the term 'Mickey Mouse-ing' to refer to things that are artificial and shallow. I remember back in the 90s they would protest every single new Disney movie that hit theatres due to them "Americanising classic folk tales", and I remember back when EuroDisney was being built there were riots and terrorist threats to try and stop the project from going forward.

The funny thing about that, is the book that started that idea, based a lot of arguments around the comics, which were just translated and repackaged for foreign markets, OR all original from local artists, and US Disney had all but no impact on the writing.

sure, disney is a big evil company. But not in the way stupid euros think.

Nah, this is an over-exaggerated talking-point that emphasizes certain voices while obfuscating from real factual observation. Disney has always been popular in Europe, regardless of generation or format. I know from memory that Snow White and Aristocats are among the highest-grossing films in France by inflation, and I can probably guess with reasonable certainty that similarities extent elsewhere.

Haven't played lately because Gameloft still hasn't fixed lag or matchmaking so that I'm not racing shitters 5-10 levels ahead of me.

All in all, there's not much else to do unless you want to whale for your favorite characters when they appear in shop. If I had to guess, Fortnite probably got a spike in users when they put kart racing into their game.

Anon, nobody is going to stay at level 25 forever. Star your characters up. Save those coins, buy their shards from the daily shop! They made recourses easier to get since Aladdin Season ended, so you have no excuse.

I think they're going to revisit old franchises with new characters if this game survives for that long. Think of it as Wave 2, or why WDW won't be limited to just Figment or POTC limited only to Jack and Elizabeth.

Mickey went through the same thing Mario is going through. He was originally an 'everyman' character who was the butt of the joke due to the whacky stuff happening to him, leading to him routinely getting humiliated and then having to fight back to fix things. He kinda had a Rodney Dangerfield "I tell ya I don't get no respect" thing going on. But as Disney got bigger and Mickey became the face of the company, they had to tone down his interactions to make sure he was inoffensive as possible. Which led to them ultimately being retired as a protagonist for cartoons. Kinda like how Mario games are getting less and less violent and experimental because Nintendo don't want their mascot being seen in a negative light.

    >Bastardised
According to whom? Just because they weren't 1:1 identical to the Brothers Grimm versions? The entire point of these folk tales is that they change and get adapted to the ages as time goes on. The Grimm versions themselves were heavily edited and changed compared to the original stories they were based on. Walt viewed himself as the father reading a bedtime story to the children of the world. And just like any father, he changed and modified the stories as he saw fit to try and make them more interesting or fit his personal beliefs.
The funny thing is, prior to the 70s Euros LOVED Disney stuff to the point Europe was a bigger market for Disney animation than the US was. A big part of why Disney almost went bankrupt in the 40s is because he lost access to the European market due to the war. Almost all of the original Disney hatred in Europe came from leftists using Disney as a surrogate for their hatred of America's anticommunist stance during the cold war.

Solar plasma take: most of the changes made in Disney movies (at least in the good ones) improved the stories. In the real Pinocchio books he's a psychopath that bullies kids and kills kittens for fun. In the real Little Mermaid, Ariel gets cuckqueaned and she dies alone. In the real Tarzan, the gorillas are the enemy and Tarzan helps hunt them down.

      >In the real Tarzan, the gorillas are the enemy and Tarzan helps hunt them down.
Tarzan was still raised by gorillas though, just magic talking ones instead of the normal pulp fiction savage gorillas.

        Anonymous

He was raised by some undiscovered species of ape that was "peaceful unlike the other savage apes". They were kinda described like how bonobos turned out to be. The books were written back when gorillas were thought to be the most violent apes.
From what I remember, Tarzan in the books also returns to America (Jane is American in the books, not English) and integrates into human society, and then goes on wacky adventures around the world fighting native tribes and hunting exotic beasts. Him being raised by apes was mainly just an excuse for him to be knowledgeable in how to explore jungles and manage wild beasts, and doesn't even factor into the story beyond the early chapters.

Oh and I forgot to mention, Clayton is his brother and he and Tarzan fight over their inheritance which includes a giant estate and a large amount of money.

          Mind. Fricking. Blown.
It's kinda like with TMNT where adaptations end up revolving around the initial status quo which people like better.
