This. Sounds like Disney is cutting out any middle men and dealing directly with Sony for Blu-Ray releases.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised by this. Glad to see Disney still supporting physical releases.
Though some of the old Disney "re-masters" for blu-ray were pretty garbage, using awful digital filters instead of decent restorations.

It’s remarkable how incompetent the decision-makers at these big companies have become. Anyone with an iota of foresight could have concluded that the streaming model relied on being a better financial proposition than cable to be successful, yet instead of getting together behind closed doors with someone like Netflix or Amazon to discuss how they were going to be the de facto “format” for streaming content and negotiate very favourable licensing deals, they all decided to make their own competing platform all with their own monthly buy-in costs. Their decisions have pushed consumer behaviour to the opposite of where they wanted it to be.

Disney legit thought they could compete or edge out netflix at one point when they were high on capeshit juice.

Sell Disney stock, which they won't because they'd lose a ton of $$$. Board members could force new leadership, but they're probably in on this shit.

Surely Disney isn’t stupid enough to forget to put a release window on all of their discs?
    >Sony releases all their future movies on Blu-ray the day they release in cinemas.

Disney are losing money, yet they'll still waste hundreds of millions on women-centric films

The executives did that on purpose. Disney was poisoned so this could happen.

Who poisoned Disney and what is the endgame?

need more digital space but cant afford it?

well, you can trade in old movies you do watch anymore for digital credits

3 old movies equals a new release

Does that mean there will be more licencing of the Fox catalogue to boutique labels onward...or is it only the new titles which are taken into account?
Because I swear the number of 20th Century movies that are either OOP or unavailable on bluray is embarrassingly high (see picrel, and tha's from the top of my head)

New titles after The First Omen but also all their releases. So whatever Disney wants to release, and its fair to assume that they want to profit from their large catalog and release more hence the need for efficiency.

      Therea even more than that.
Its good news for 4k and even standard blu-ray collectors as well as digital hoarders of full quality remuxes. Absolute worst case, Sony does a better job of status quo which is still an improvement. Best case is we see their entire catalog make its way to Blu-Ray. Based on comments Iger made recently and recent sales of Oppenheimer and The Abyss and Blu-rays in general, they want to release more than they have been. It seems recently they also started to make an effort with the quality of their releases and this is them realizing they dont have the necessary expertise to do what they need to.

        >"make an effort with the quality of their releases"
        >Poor Things, a recently released acclaimed flick who made $100m at the box office, and has a high chance of being profitable on the home media market, won't get an UHD release
        lol, lmao even.

yeah, i'm definitely not pissed off at the ever-worsening enshittification of movie streaming and its unwanted impact on physical media, most likely due to corporate greed and incompetence.
ya know, it's not like i resent the average braindead consumer for choosing services that push you to piracy because of laughable subscription prices, bad quality control and copyright issues, i'm totally FINE with that.
in fact, from now on, i'll make sure i'll spend all my money to these money-grubbing israelites, who might or might not edit and censor and restrict the broadcast of these worldwide known movies just as they wish, in order to fit le "social-struggle-du-jour".
that way, we'll never get Die Hard With A Vengeance, Sound Of Music, Fight Club, Hud or Gone Girl on UHD, because it's "like, super old and problematic" and "super expensive to produce" and "the discs are full of plastic, which is bad for environment, unlike our servers which are operating 24/7 and totally environmentally friendly, we swear(tm)"
