In some US states for petty claims below some cash threshold both parties can choose an arbitrator who will decide on the outcome. That's all this show is, but I have no idea how they find these people.
>I have no idea how they find these people.
There’s a number to call after every episode >something something if you have an interesting case call this number we might pay for you to come to wherever
There's a pretty good incentive to go because I read that the show itself will pay out the judgment. If you're being sued, you're basically off the hook no matter what. If you're the one suing, you're basically guaranteed to get your money if you win.
receiving/enforcing settlements can be difficult
unspent child support/alimony/taxes that can send you to jail
everything else gets complicated like proving ownership and having a bailiff do the seizure, also varies by state, in florida you don't have to sell your house in event of bankruptcy
My grandmother got her car keyed by her neighbor and she was offered to be on Judge Judy but said because she thought she would cry on TV if she was yelled at.
Me and my mom were on Judge Judy in the late 90s. My friend through a rock at me and missed and smashed a window on my mom's car. My friend's mom didn't want to pay because she said that I had not only provoked my friend, but also that I had deflected the rock into the window. We won $450.
Were you guys friends after that? I lost a friend when my mom got in a dispute with the neighbor over snow and I wasn't allowed to talk to the friend anymore. What sucks even more is that he took it to heart and treated me like an enemy.
>What sucks even more is that he took it to heart and treated me like an enemy.
If someone stopped talking to me because his mom said he couldn't I probably wouldn't like them either.
Regular judges work the same way TV drama judges work btw. They all think they're judge Judy, watch court cam. You don't even need any legal degree to be a judge.
Do you think Hollywood demographics reflect America lol
Americans only know voyeurism, it's the only way they can cope with their atomized existence
Or, maybe, it's a Tv show?
Most was fake, and you could get a free trip to LA for just wanting to be on the show.
Europe is gay as frick.
I'm not from Europe I'm from Ecuador we don't have that here

Isn’t that usually the case?
Winning a case and actually getting your money are different things. How are you going to collect $5000 from someone with $20 if their bank account?
That’s what JG wentworth is for. It’s my money and I want it now!

How did the show's producers find your grandmother? Were they just floating around the police station?
She took him to small claims court and I guess they picked it up from there.
It's never too late.
I killed and ate my neighbor and got put on Judge Joe Brown

What's wrong with having televised arbitration?

For a while we weren't friends but became friends again in high school. But don't know him anymore.

Judge Judy is only a small claims course, mate.
Her programming is entertaining, though.
