A while back I drank a whole bottle of tequila with beer as chaser and built a workbench that came out pretty nice. I was in a tequila phase though that might have had something to do with it.

You're an alcoholic. You need it to function. Binge drinking and alcoholism are very different. If you drink 100+ beers a week for two weeks straight, you're going to feel withdrawal symptoms. You even feel withdrawal symptoms after going on a bender for a few days, but most people brush it off as a bad hangover. Alcohol is the most physically and mentally destructive substance, and anyone can easily experience the withdrawal symptoms after drinking heavily for a few days - especially due to how alcohol fricks up your sleep cycle and makes it difficult to get a good nights sleep so if you already struggle falling asleep then drinking heavily is like sucking on a pistol. If you can get through the "hangover" in 36 hours, you're not an alcoholic. I've seen true alcoholism and it takes over a week while under medication assisted treatment to treat the symptoms, and even when they ween off the medication, they still have moderate to mild withdrawal symptoms for weeks and some even months ‐ this is called Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms aka PAWS.
          Learn your shit, homosexuals.

to start with? yes. and there are studies pointing to all hangovers actually being withdrawal symptoms of a kind of varying intensity.

Yes, and no. Alcoholics experience delirium tremens and get seizures if they go cold turkey for a few days. Alcoholism is the most exaggerated disease, and only daily non-stop drinkers are textbook alcoholics. People who binge drink are just impulsive buttholes and have the will to stop if they can learn to be introspective and determine the root cause for their impulsive behavior.
Alcohol seriously fricks with your hormones and dehydrates the shit out of you. All the symptoms of "alcohol withdrawal" can easily be mistaken for symptoms of sleep deprivation, dehydration, and stress, but people like making shit black or white and just say it's alcoholism because they're fricking moronic. The agonizing body aches and sweats that feel like a fever or a bad hangover is just your body detoxing the foreign substance from your system - same goes for junkies and dope, but it isn't as dangerous as alcohol because alcohol is a psychotropic depressant of the central nervous system just like benzos which is why those two drugs will kill you if you just stop taking them when your body is so dependant to it.

Depends entirely on the person. Some people are super suceptible to withdrawals and others are practically immune. I've always had them from drinking excessively, my dad was an alcoholic until he died at 52 and never suffered withdrawals during the brief periods he quit. Alcohol withdrawal is progressive as well, each time you drink you will develop withdrawals more severely and more quickly (if you are the kind of person who gets them) such that a single binge even after months of sobriety could leave you with withdrawals.

            Anonymous

            >you're going to feel withdrawal symptoms
No this is simply not true. It's all genetic, some people's liver process things more efficiently and stuff like eating healthy and drinking water can also affect that. There are people who drank less than me but lived otherwise unhealthy lives and they came out way worse than me at much younger ages. I'm not saying this as encouragement for younger drunks, but there are ways to minimize the risks along with genetics that play a much stronger role. There is no hard and fast rule. The truth is you have to evaluate yourself and make hard decisions that you might not necessarily like.

                > Live a pretty healthy life outside of drinking constantly, diet, exercise, and plenty of water, and I specifically try to eat liver healthy foods, and I've never experienced any withdrawal symptoms
You just proved my point, moron. You're taking preventative measures by being healthy - I do the same exact thing and rarely get sick after a bender. Your average person doesn't spend the time to be healthy, have poor diets, and lack daily physical activity - most likely glued to their home office working remotely.
Look up how much alcoholism has increased since covid started. If you live a sedentary lifestyle and drink a lot, then you're going to regret the consequences once you try to stop and just give up and keep being a fat lazy binge drinker thinking you're an alcoholic when in reality you're just a fat lazy butthole addicted to sugars. Drinking a lot also messes with your gut flora, which is why heavy drinkers crave sugar when sober. It's all a load of horse shit used to exploit unhealthy habits as alcoholism.

Good job bro. What have you replaced the alcohol shaped hole in your heart with, and will you ever try moderation? I used to think I couldn’t do moderation but I’ve mastered it now. I still rarely will have a night where I go ham but overall I’m drinking a lot less.

Granted I’m nowhere near as bad as some guys here so don’t laugh at me, but I went from finishing a handle of 50% alc captain Morgan black every weekend, to now just drinking like 20 beers once a week on the weekend. My alcoholic grandmother to great success controlled her alcoholism by only having 1 day to drink, Saturday, and only drinking beer.

That logic is fricking stupid. Ofc. you don't need go full hobo to be alcoholic. Since you clearly haven't been drinking that much you wouldn't know that you build tolerance to hangover and worst withdrawals don't hit until 48-72h after last dose. You can easily binge drink on evening until you pass out, wake up and go to work and repeat every day. My father has done this for 25y every day and if he can't get his fix withing day or two he starts sweating, loses his temperature from everything and looks nervous as hell.

That's textbook definition of alcoholism, moron. Binge drinkers go on benders for an indefinite amount of time then stop for an indefinite amount of time - wash, rinse, repeat. Their amhabits are sporadic and they over drink - that's why it's called "binge" drinking. Your daddy is a fricking alcoholic - alcoholics are habitual drinkers that drink at the same fricking time, ever fricking day for a long ass time.

That's not true at all. The true signs of alcoholism are the lack of control you have over your drinking. If you promise yourself that you're not going to drink every night and end up doing it anyway, it's very indicative that you are an alcoholic. If you can't even make it through breakfast without a drink then you are also an alcoholic, but in either case, you simply lack personal control over your addiction.

Why do people make up their own definitions in these threads all the time? Alcoholism takes many forms, from binge drinkers who don't know when to stop to functional but constant drinkers to crippled wrecks. The common thread is that they all have an excessive and uncontrollable desire to drink which is what you will find under any formal or medical definition.

I have been all of the above and I didn't suddenly become an alcoholic when I started getting crippled by withdrawals. I was an alcoholic the entire time I drank to excess because I had a hard time controlling my cravings.

Then they tested again, same thing.
Then they tested again, and I was told I had to immediately stop drinking and stop drinking for a year, or develop cirrhosis and die.
The false sense of security comes from delusions. You aren't special and your liver really does get overwhelmed at some point. At which point depends on so many things. But it will happen to you if you continue.

          This raises a bigger question

Looking at history and even your own family tree there are certainly people who have the genetics to handle a life of excess

So at what point do you decide you're one of them?

            Anonymous

Most people don't though. That's the point really. Most alcoholics are not special. And most die of problems related to alcohol. A life of excess leads to death, most of the time. Prople famous for their heavy drinking and alcohol tolerance usually die of alcoholism.

              Anonymous

I agree, of course they die of their alcoholism, but yet they're remembered.

Ernest Hemingway isn't remember for being a miserable dying drunk (he was) but because he wrote such masterpieces he was remembered as a master writer.
              .
If you do something, drunk or not, you will be remembered, how many palm oil victims diabetes cases are remembered, none.

My point is, alcohol is one of the things associated with genius. That may be because high IQ people are prone to addiction, it may be because its always been the western mans comfort. I think the general point is I should still drink beer.

I think we should all take a step back and be reminded of what this substance has done for our culture, history and empire. We should all remember the theory that man only invented the farm so that he could ferment, and bears still huff petrol when they can, its mammal, its human, its right.

I replaced it with working out, friends and work. Making more money than I have in a long time. Once I feel like my withdrawal symptoms won't creep back up which will probably be few more months, it'll probably just be some holiday or special event thing. I was the whiskey man doing about 400ml a day, every other day for 4 years.

28 drinks/week puts you in the top 10 percentile of alcoholics.

A lot of alcoholics mostly hang around other alcoholics so they think their excessive alcohol consumption is normal when it definitely isn't

If you keep that up you will get cirrhosis and go into liver failure and die. It's very common and not talked about. The only cure is a liver transplant and those are hard to get and require six months of sobriety. People often die from liver failure because varices build up in their esophagus and pop causing them to drown in their own blood. That or sepsis.

One of my close family members has cirrhosis and it's basically doomed. She's been keeping her drinking secret this whole time.

        >If your gonna lie atleast try and make it semi realistic
I don't know what's unrealistic about it. If you space it out, 30 a day over 24 hours and you're basically at the level BAC the Druk guys tried to be at but 24/7. I don't know how this is impossible to comprehend.

What's your job? Lying on the ground and vomiting?

No, it's actually the opposite in my case. When I wake up, I feel sick UNLESS I drink a few beers, not the other way around. My 'normal' is having a few in my system. Riding the line the guys in Druk tried to achieve.
Which brings up a serious topic for anyone trying this: do NOT frick around with alcohol withdrawals. If you're an alcoholic and want to quit, if you drink heavily: don't just cold turkey that shit like cigarettes or whatever else. Alcoholic withdrawals will fricking kill you, and that's no exaggeration.
Anyone here have "the shakes" the morning after heavily drinking? That's your brain unable to successfully transmit nerve signals to your hands. Now imagine that, but truly alcoholic and not just a one-time binge drink. Your brain adapts to the alcohol and sends the electrical signals understanding that it has alcohol in the system. If you cold turkey, it'll send a message to your heart or lungs and if you don't have alcohol in the system like it thinks, wires get crossed and a single heartbeat doesn't happen or a single breath doesn't happen and you just fricking die.
I know my first post sounded like some frat kid bragging how much he can drink but I'm being serious. I've had seizures and shit from withdrawals. Don't mess with this.

        >work every single day = about 8h
        >sleep = about 6h
        >work trips and store = about 1h
So you have like 0 9h to drink 30 beers. So you have to drink one in average every 18min. Unless you drink while you work. 30 beers is like 10 litres / 2.6 gallons btw. Imagine drinking that amount of anything daily. Coca-Cola, apple juice, even water would be difficult.

Well since you can't do math: here's my schedule.
        >work 7 days a week, 6 hours a day to hit full time
That just bought me 2 more hours to drink
        >sleep ~6 hours
        Pretty accurate.
        >work trips and store = about 1h
Pretty accurate. Takes me about 10 minutes to work but I do need to go to the store every once in a while, but not daily for groceries. That's once a week or so.

        >milk thistle

        >ibuprofen
Will frick your stomach and liver up, also unnecessary because alcohol does the job just as well
The real answer is NAC and thiamine

          Anonymous

          >milk thistle

You say this but everything has improved since I started taking it, perhaps it psych but I've heard such good things from even anons in these threads and its cheap so why not

          >Ibuprofen

Yes NSAIDS are the main cause of ulcers, I did at one point abuse these not knowing what they did, but used sparingly (bad hangover) they can be beneficial to reduce general inflammation

I think the one I really recommend are the proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole, they're OTC and really improve the stomach function as a drinker but then again its temporary

I will try NAC and thiamine though, what benefits have you seen? Am on the supplement what ill lose drinking train so want to know everything

            Anonymous

            >everything has improved
What, specifically? I've never actually tried it, just read that it's snake oil
            >NAC
Inhibits ethanol from being metabolised into acetaldehyde which is thought to be a major cause of both liver damage and hangovers (not dehydration contrary to popular belief).
You're supposed to take it about half an hour before drinking and not while you already have alcohol in your system, but I'm not sure how much that actually matters. I take 600mg every time I drink and it does seem to make hangovers less intense.
            >Thiamine
Essential for preventing Wernicke-Korsakoff ("wet brain") syndrome which you really don't want. Not sure you'd notice anything in the short term but you need it in the long run. I take 100mg daily.
PPIs are great but long-term use can also cause B vitamin deficiency, I forget which one. Alcohol alone will also cause zinc and magnesium deficiencies, possibly others. I'd recommend getting a good multivitamin complex in general but NAC and thiamine are the main ones.

              So for >milk thistle

All my bile related problems have stopped such as shitting any fluid and no weird colour, which is I suppose somewhat anecdotal but I take around 4000mg per day and its stopped me feeling like an invalid waiting for liver scarring, just by stopping all of the digestive ailments one has when they drink a lot, no more endless vomit etc

I'm ordering both NAC and thiamine off of Amazon right now - I've seen documentaries about drunks and seem them drinking red bull to prevent wet brain, which is thiamine (rain in my heart if youre interested quite a good one)

              Thanks for the info

My cat woke me up at 3.35. I think. He always wakes me up during the night because I taught him not to piss and shit in the house. I walked him to the front door and there was a whole concert of birds whistling. Went back inside to check the time: 3.43. 25th of july. These birds were going bonkers with their songs. I think I heard 5-6 different species. I was like: "wtf is this?" . It was loud. So I noted the hour and the date. It lasted 10 or so minutes and then it died down. Last week we had the longest day of the year, I don't know if it's related.

I've drank every night for about 7 years, I live in Asia and work from home so it's cheap and everything is open 24 hours. I might quit though, I've started to notice the anxiety is going through the frickin roof most mornings. Heart beating fast, pins and needles in arms, sweating. I know it'll go away after 3 or 4 cans but I also know I'll just keep drinking till 1 or 2am then fall asleep and do it all over again

      Anonymous

I've had this, and eventually you go mad and just stop going to work.

The trick is when you have a full week of work is to have one or two beers when you get home because you earned it, but also eat, calories help a lot which is why beers are a good choice.

Then if you want to go on a big bender when you have time off you can, you get function but you get disfunction which we all like in equal measure.

Don't let it ruin your source of income which allows all of this.

            I'll repost one of mine

Yeah it's part of the thinking, most of them want to believe it so hard, they actually do at some point.
Until they either die or it gets so bad they come to the conclusion that they are really fricked.
I've been sober for 6 years and I remember the last time I had a relapse I realized my thinking was fricked for almost a whole month after that.

Disregard the last post just realized i did valium for years and seized to get off it

Yeah it doesn't really matter if it's every day or not. We had multiple guys in therapy that were binge drinking every few weeks but got more fricked up every time.
One had started to steal cars for some reason and crashed multiple times, he couldn't control himself at all when drunk.
Like I said, it's about why you consume drugs, not necessarily how often, this just raises the risk of getting addicted but it's not the sole reason for it.
I never drank daily but the moment I started smoking weed it took me just 1-2 to smoke from morning to night, couldn't sleep without the crap and become increasingly aggressive without it and paranoid with it.
Sure that doesn't apply for everyone but I realized I had a problem with addiction in general, alcohol was just the start.
I started drinking because I was always socially akward and that "fixed" it, nothing really has changed that much because I didn't do enough but I still believe it's extremely important for me to stay sober. Otherwise all my problems are just getting worse as they did before I stopped.

    I'm new to drinking:

Yesterday after just 1 big glass of wine I was already pretty tipsy

but today I drank 1 big glass again and I feel nothing

do you develop tolerance that fast?
