Do the writers even deserve higher wages?

All that Hollywood writers have been producing the last 5 or so years has been complete garbage. Like zero effort type scripts that are terrible, I mean sure theres the occasional really good one, but you dont see masterpieces unless its a movie being produced by one of the biggest name producers (Spielberg, Tarentino, christopher nolan, ect)

It seems that big companies are no better too because they lack the common sense to read a garbage script and reject it for being terrible.

Do the writers even deserve the pay increase they are demanding?

Also I promise im not bob iger.

The idea is that they are paid residuals if their product is a hit.

Since nothing has been a hit, they're striking for more money.

but isnt that a by product of their bad scripts, like if i was in charge of telling an oil company where to set up oil drilling sites, and i get it wrong constantly, should i really be getting a pay increase when barely any oil is being pumped out?

from what I understand the whole system is fricked. 90% of the stuff written gets reworked or edited after the whims of the producers, so what comes out as a great script is eventually neutered to target specific market audiences.
However that is not mutually exclusive with writers being moronic and lacking in world experience.

Streaming is huge wtf are you talking about. Actors for Orange is the New Black (I don't like it but it brought Netflix in money) got like $20 in residuals recently. If you aren't supporting Netflix then you are supporting CEOs and stockholders

also directors not producers but my arguement stands. I think the actors deserve an increase though.

Writers absolutely do not deserve higher wages just look at them. A vast majority of shows and movies are written like diarrhoea blasted on a page. The issue is the disparity between grossly overpaid actors, producers and directors who need to be paid less than their ludicrous amounts.

The problem goes beyond wage. The actual problem is all the coattail-riding. You absolutely can not sell me on the concept of a “story group.” Good stories don’t evolve out of a committee, and no studio is going to be eager to increase wages when that means paying a couple of people to actually write and ten others sitting around saying, “Yeah, but what about …” for comparable pay.

They deserve less, if anything. Give them an hourly wage, with a supervisor to make sure they are actually working, and residuals for if they actually write something worth watching.
