Atheists always pretend they're all about facts and logic but then every week they're addicted to some made up bullshit like this, aliens, life is some 4D MMO...

I mean, I've heard the logic and understand the concept that we are more likely in a simulation than not. But what does that do for us as human beans? Do we just give up and lay in bed all day bc we have no free will? Or do we continue to live our "lives" in the only way we know how in the only world we have any concept of? Do you really believe we can break out of the simulation? If it's this flawless, there's probably no escape.

I think Douglas Adams came up with a beautiful idea that the Earth itself is a 2,000+ year simulation and that we are representation of computational calculations that are running a program to come up with the Ultimate Question, of which the answer is 42. You see, the computer could come up with the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything, but coming up with the question was much harder. So we are that program.

        Anonymous

The most beautiful thing about this is that it is simulation theory that also mimics religion in that God made us as representations of himself so that we could live in his program and learn the answer to life.

Nick Bostrom is some kind of elevated pseudo-troll. He's very successful at spreading his idea, I give him that.
    >assume computed substrate-independence consciousness is possible
    >assume that tons of such computation is happening throughout the universe
These are both highly contentious and I think it's very silly to talk about probabilities for them. I think it's fine as a "dude, what if" idea, but I don't think you can talk about what's likely or unlikely when you start with dude-what-ifs.

Tell me this, when you wake up, how do you know this isn't the first time you've opened your eyes? Every memory you had could be implanted into you at the moment you first opened your eyes. The second you lose continuation of consciousness anything is possible. Every night you die, and every day you are reborn.

          Anonymous

I agree. non-existence isn't something you can experience. you live, you die, then you live again. birth is just the other side of death. lights go out and then the lights go on again. even if there's an infinity inbetween you're not there to notice it. when it happens it will feel instant.

            Anonymous

Right. Also energy is neither created nor destroyed. You have existed, and you always will have existed. You are never not exiting if time isn't linear.

              Anonymous

I think time is linear in sense that it's just never ending sequence of events or the lack of events. universes bubble into existence like air bubbles in a rolling boil.

                Anonymous

We experience it linearly, that's all we know. But even if it is, think about the energy. You're energy doesn't disappear, it transforms through cause and effect. One day a computer will be powerful enough to reverse the direction of all that energy and it will see you and be able to talk to you as plainly as I am right now. Even 6 million years from now.

in reality there's no energy. the sum of everything is 0

                Anonymous

Even if the sum of everything is zero, it's not in equilibrium right now, so a computer could follow cause and effect back to the creation of the universe. All we experience is change.

So you think we live in a False Vacuum?

                Anonymous

honestly don't know what that means

I'm guessing more like if I created a computer universe and attribute mass to it the weight of the computer stays the same even if the fake universe increased in mass. but it's not a computer but something else like reality being a projection thrown upon a screen we can navigate.

                Anonymous

A false vacuum is exactly what you have described. It's a local instance of stability, like a bubble in boiling water. But since it is only metastable it can and will pop and reach a true equilibrium.

                >but it's not a computer but something else like reality being a projection thrown upon a screen we can navigate.
You really think very similarly to me. I call it the Gem of Truth. It could also be called God or whatever you want, but I think of it as a gem or crystal and there is a light that shines through it, and the light falls onto a substrate. We are the light and our universe is the substrate, and we are all reflections of the one true object, the Gem.

Yes Einstein’s physics show and Max Planck’s physics’ show that there are at least 12 dimensions. And now that’s what all the top scientists and billionaires are coming out saying, ‘it’s a false hologram—it is artificial.’ The computers are scanning it and finding tension points where it’s artificially projected, and gravity’s bleeding-in to this universe. That’s what they call ‘dark matter’. There’s this sub-transmission zone below the 3rd dimension.
