Personally the reason its a bit weird that Superman cries over Zod's death is that the rest of the movie is miserable, also snapped neck, not a very clean death, maybe an explosion without any gore would have worked better

It was a bad start to the franchise anon, maybe if it was the second movie they could do something like that (you know, like the ORIGINAL Superman 2) but as a first outing for Clark it was terrifying, I don’t see how the world could POSSIBLY trust him the way you’d want them to if the first time was him killing his own people to save us. I’d see it more that they were just warring gods fighting over how to rule us, rather than Clark just being a dude who wants to do the best he can, that best just happening to be benching the fricking planet. I know that feeling a little. I have very limited abilities of wind manipulation and at some point you really have to ask yourself what kind of man you want to be.
I personally see these kinds of powers as just an extension of your other abilities. If you're a very fast and muscular man that doesn't have super powers it would still be your responsibility to step in if someone innocent end weak was being killed, even if the only way to save the victim is killing.
So yeah, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by that stuff, especially if you had a sheltered upbringing but that's just life. The real world is violent and full of death. Most westerners have been sheltered from this reality but if you have certain abilities then you immediately become one of the people sheltering and you get confronted with the worst the world has to offer. It can frick you up real bad. There's a reason so many policemen and soldiers are such callous monsters. But you should be different, OP. If your powers are also defensive and not just offensive you shouldn't have to become a callous monster to be able to protect people. Callousness in Law enforcement arises as a defense mechanism but you don't need it. You can keep your arms open to the people because you getting stabbed in the back shouldn't hurt that much.
