As moronic and neurotic as legitimizing "white" as any kind of standard for ethnicity. The OP question is brainless to begin with and frankly if we want to go by who is "white" or not they should have white hair as well. Albinism superiority!
whites are constantly erroneously "claiming" characters/historical figures as their own if they find it appealing. not dissimilar to blacks and their "WE WUZ CLEOPATRA AND SHIET" antics.
There are no jomon in the show. Water Tribe are eskimo (swamp benders are Viet for some reason), Air Nomads are Tibetan, Earth Kingdom are Chinese/Korean, and Fire Nation are southeast Asian (primarily Thai) with some random Mesoamericans left over
fire nation is a big mix of a bunch of Asian stuff, you're probably the dumbest fricker I've seen by claiming they're Thai because of some buildings while ignoring the obvious Chinese architectural influence on top of their armor, writing, weaponry, and naming conventions. Lets also not ignore the obvious references to imperial, WW2, Japan. The artbook even talks about the two biggest influences being China and Japan.
Ok so now that we’ve solved it, what are some other ethnicities in animations? I’ve often wondered about pic related, does the author imagine them as Japanese people who developed into a European, magical steampunk society? Or are they actually German/danish/Belgian? Wasn’t there a movie where they actually went to nazi germany? Does that imply the country IS European and roughly based in Germany? With the Scandinavian country to the north? And who are the Arab people they go to war with? The “Chinese” characters are said to come from the far east, so it does kind of make sense
I tried watching FMA:Brotherhood with my Chinese roommate in college, and it was such a mindfrick finding out he saw the characters as asian. Even though it was clearly set in faux-Germany / faux-France, with blond characters, etc.
That’s kind of the beauty of anime, it allows more people to empathize by imagining themselves or their people in the main role. Similar to how anime faces are seen as attractive, yet they’re basically featureless.. your brain fills in what it’s used to seeing. So you can tell ethnically influenced or specific stories.. but they can be enjoyed anywhere. It’s one of the main reasons anime is enjoyed around the world
Amestris isn’t Japanese. Izumi clearly stands out from most other Amestrians, who generally look pretty white. The Asian characters in the setting are easy to spot.
Now, in Silver Spoon, the Japanese cast look like the mostly white cast of FMA, but that’s just artistic license.
Fire Nation are Japanese moron, they have Japanese-like names and a Japanese dude voices Iroh. Yeah they have influences from other Asian cultures but primarily Japanese, down to the part where Japan industrialized and tried to take over Asia
Azula isn't an East Asian name so she had no official name in that language group. If this wasn't obvious to you, their writing system is in mandarin. The show made this obvious.

>Chinese not Mandarin
Same shit, dumbass. >its even in trad characters.
No it isn't. Zuko's official name in the show uses simplified script, not traditional script. It's in the poster, and if you don't believe me just go look it up on a search engine.
because they aren't japs, but they are the closest analogue in the Avatar world. In the end it's a fantasy show and they have influences from other cultures to make them unique
They very much want to be and weebs desperately want them to be as well but no, they’re not. They stay inside all day if they can to become some kind of small alabaster statue person but they’ll never be white no matter how hard they try nor how much stupid shit they rub on their skin.
Avatar was written and drawn and created entirely by whites, nerdy whites that went to mcdojos in the 2000s and shit, but it’s all whites. It was one of the first openly anime inspired western cartoons.
I literally regarded them as anime realm ambigious or white when I first watched. I remain confused by the incredibly bullishness of some people insisting the HAVE to be Asian because they know kung fu and live in pagodas 'n shit.
As someone that grew up with anime I'm very used to Japanese people being ethnically ambigious in depiction and living in European settings despite being "Asian." Happens a lot in reincarnation and Isekai settings. Character is non-descript resident of Tokyo, same character lives in fantasy not-Germany and is regarded as just another person there.
Sailor Moon is a famous early example of this. Usagi is a reincarnation of a space alien where her moon kingdom is very not traditional Japanese, but she looks exactly the same. Does that mean Moon aliens and Martians look Japanese instead of white? Maybe. I still don't know actually but probably. It's not that big of a deal, except to race hucksters anyways that see yet another opportunity to hate white people.
Reminds me of that old "guess who the main character is" anime meme that has an anime still of a girl with vibrant pink hair and a cat sidekick sitting at the back of a class filled with normal looking students
Avatar was always primarily focused on Asian nations. The closest there were to white people would most likely be the Fire Nation with Russian influences, albeit minor as it was conjoined at the hip with Chinese and Japanese influences. Water tribes are Eskimos and northern peoples of Siberia, the Air temples are Tibet and other heavily religious people, and the Earth Kingdoms are all over the place. India, bits of Egyptian and Chinese influence in architecture and culture. You could reasonably introduce pacific islander culture into just about any of them as well.
It takes place in a fictional world that Europe and Asia don't exist in. I frankly don't care what they are as long as they aren't black. I've seen fanart interpretations of the characters being white, hapa, and Asian and they all looked fine.
Attack on Titan casting is going to be the fun one. Asians are canonically rare in that world. Still going to attract the azn 'ther taking ar jerbz' crowd singing out once all the main cast are revealed to be euros though.
Semi-related, disaster movie or no, it was a cute idea to reverse things for the Japanese movie. Where everyone is Japanese except Mikasa who is played by a hapa.
I think they're fictional racces from fictional nations. Their cultures draw influence from real life ones, but they're still fictional and not meant to directly stand in for any real place or people.
Every living thing in Avatar is a hybrid mutt so you get things like sky bison and blue eyed brown waifu. I don't understand why people don't get this. They're not supposed to be any one thing.
There's Asian cultural, architectural and attire commonalities, that said a lot of characters have light eyes or hair and it's fun to make the /r/asianmascuinity types squirm.
Their designs were based on anime which in turn was based on Disney. Ultimately they're cartoon people at the end of the day.
Not white
But also not real life races either
Or was I supposed to think the blue eyed eskimos who speak Classical Chinese are meant to represent a real ethnicity?
My girlfriend wanted to watch this show with me, I had no interest in it prior. Just finished it and I think it has to be the most overrated series I've ever watched. There's zero stakes, they fricked themselves by it having to be kid friendly so pretty much NO characters were at risk at dying or being seriously injured. The fights aren't violent and are mostly just people getting knocked over despite being able to crush people with rocks or be burned alive. This is all despite of course a war going on where apparently a bunch of people are dying (which we also never see lmao). They didn't even have the balls to kill Zuko in the last episode despite him taking a full load of lightning.
The only thing it had going for it was the top notch animation.
People who watched it as kids tend to rate it higher than those who didn't.
I watched it as it was airing and at the right ages, and it's a top tier show for me. It makes sense why adults who aren't manchildren wouldn't love it as much
if you watched it as a kid when you look back on it you just see the good parts and don't notice how silly it all is because your kid brain already handled the suspension of disbelief for it back in 2006
on an unrelated note, if A:TLA was a YA book series instead of a TV show it could have been as violent as the premise required
That's what Netflix should do instead of a live action remake. Do an animated retelling with no content restrictions. There's never once been a serious and mature animated drama in the US, despite every indication it'd work. ATLA is the perfect property to try with. It's either kids shows or adult humor. Netflix could unironically break ground if they had half a brain cell. Instead the live action remake will be garbage.
What people they are meant to represent, or what their design is based upon is completely irrelevant; I just don’t want to see bugmen or nignogs in any major role in a live action remake. White people prefer to watch white people on the screen, is that so hard to understand?
ATLA is heavily inspired by Japanese anime, and they're notoriously liberal with ethnic appearances. MOST Japanese (living in Japan, referred to as Japanese) anime characters I've seen look significantly whiter than the 25-50% Japanese white I know. It's just an aesthetic choice. Not everyone cares about current_year politics.
A meme.
But speaking of Avatar and race, I'm a little "worried", that since the creators have probably radicalized over the years, and most of the animation industry is full of progs/commies, the new series (set in the modern word apparently) will just say frick, and introduce shit like pacific Islanders (which is still fine, since they came from Asia), but more importantly just straight up black people, and will just go "every race but whites exist in this world)
>look exactly
makeup, cucklord. Its kind of funny, your pic white nigretta tried to look like asian girl with ton of make up, but still failed and only look like a amercian burger prostitute.
asiatics cant into attractiveness unless you have a bug fetish. They are panfaced insects like how is this a question, Ty Lee has large beautiful EYES, chinks have slits
Ahah. A white burger nightetta is forced to put on make-up even to cosplay an Asian girl without make-up. Such a shame). American cucklore even have to make cartoons about great asians, because americans have nothing except bbc and burger culture.
I refuse to believe that Ba Sing Se is 1/15th the size of a continent the size of Asia. That would be larger than any megacity on Earth which is all the more preposterous for a pre-industrial society like the Earth Kingdom in atla
all avatar nations culture-coded after asians, they all asians. which means if there's any other continents with white culture-coded nations they're all fricked
Why are you guys actually having a serious discussion about cultural counterparts in mythopoeic world of Avatar?
I thought we we're supposed to post cropped porn and talk about which character's feet we want to lick, as it goes in Avatar threads?
Asian women are so easy to pull for any nonjeet/asian. Literally express the smallest confidence and smallest aggression and you can pull any asian girl thats not a wealthy high status asian chick. Why do weeaboos on Cinemaphile obsess over them so much? I mean shit you can set the bar low but just nah too easy mode. R/asianmasculinity is even funnier then pol.
>Cinemaphile anon thinks he can get rich spouse
anon I'm referring to the masses of asians. You could show the slightest bvll and you'll get asian b***hes. No wealthy asian female will go for you unless you have status too.
Why do weebs on Cinemaphile glorify the Japanese so much but also try to put down literally every other Asian race like China and Korea?
Really weird tbh.
Because they’re distinct groups, with varying characteristics and cultures. I find it ironic the modern liberal wants to dismantle “whiteness” with arguments like “what even is a pan-European heritage? There’s no such thing as white people just varying groups with a few similar features”… but the second it comes time to distinguish victims of whiteness it’s “Asian” “black” and maybe “Hispanic”. As if an American black person with a college degree has more in common with a Central African tribesman than a person in Wisconsin has with a Bavarian.
>hey guys im an illiterate homosexual that doesnt understand the diversity in skin tone in the asian community. I cant tell the difference between a jap and a asiatic or a chink and a flip.
Get off the internet and go interact with real ppl every now and then
No, but seeing an au/what if story based on European cultures would be really cool to see, and I guess ones for African cultures, or the cultures of the Americas would also be neat.
White people have blond hair.
most of them actually dont have blonde hair
Then they're not white.
I wonder often what it's like being this moronic and neurotic
As moronic and neurotic as legitimizing "white" as any kind of standard for ethnicity. The OP question is brainless to begin with and frankly if we want to go by who is "white" or not they should have white hair as well. Albinism superiority!
>t.
Clutch clutchhhh
so hitler wasnt white
I fricking hate Hitler, he made racism taboo. That fricker basically made the current political cimate.
This is how I feel about McCarthy and pointing out communism
It's a meme that some idiots tricked themselves into believing.

Lmfao nice bait
are jomon white?
There are no jomon in the show. Water Tribe are eskimo (swamp benders are Viet for some reason), Air Nomads are Tibetan, Earth Kingdom are Chinese/Korean, and Fire Nation are southeast Asian (primarily Thai) with some random Mesoamericans left over
they look nothing like thai. and the swamp benders are actual whites they even have southern accents
>they're all speaking English with American accents, so they're white Americans
>they look nothing like thai
That's the only thing they look like
>pic not related
You will never be fire nation
Swamp benders are obviously Cajun
fire nation is a big mix of a bunch of Asian stuff, you're probably the dumbest fricker I've seen by claiming they're Thai because of some buildings while ignoring the obvious Chinese architectural influence on top of their armor, writing, weaponry, and naming conventions. Lets also not ignore the obvious references to imperial, WW2, Japan. The artbook even talks about the two biggest influences being China and Japan.

Amestris isn’t Japanese. Izumi clearly stands out from most other Amestrians, who generally look pretty white. The Asian characters in the setting are easy to spot.
Now, in Silver Spoon, the Japanese cast look like the mostly white cast of FMA, but that’s just artistic license.
>anime getting a live adaptation

netflix was on the money though spike ~~*spiegel*~~ was definitely asian
Fire Nation are Japanese moron, they have Japanese-like names and a Japanese dude voices Iroh. Yeah they have influences from other Asian cultures but primarily Japanese, down to the part where Japan industrialized and tried to take over Asia
>Japanese-like names
>Zuko
>Azula
>Ozai

yes these ones are Japanese
ずこ
あずら
おざい
Ty Lee sounds more Chinese, but like I said it's a mix with Japanese being primary
No, they aren't.
Zuko is 祖寇
Ozai is 敖載
Iroh is 艾洛
Azula isn't an East Asian name so she had no official name in that language group. If this wasn't obvious to you, their writing system is in mandarin. The show made this obvious.

Bait?
>firenation was thai
they are literally the japanese empire
Ah yes who could forget the Aztec tribe who famously dwell in the Japanese archipelago
They're not in Japan though, the worlds fictional. You might as well start complaining about the flying bison too.
Fire Nation Is white. Shill(s) are just try to spin the narrative before shitflix releases Its version.
Fire Nation is Indian. "Agni" is literally a Hindu word for fire.
Then why don’t they shit on the streets?
had the air nomads clean it up
I was gonna say they could easily just burn it away, but then I thought, burning shit probably smells 100× worse.
Maybe the earthbenders bend their poop?
And Kai is Japanese for meeting/competition. I don't know why you morons can't understand it's a composite of different cultures.
Weird, I thought the swamp benders were the sole token white ethnicity on the show.
It's so fricking insane how good this show's design and scripts truly were.
They very much want to be and weebs desperately want them to be as well but no, they’re not. They stay inside all day if they can to become some kind of small alabaster statue person but they’ll never be white no matter how hard they try nor how much stupid shit they rub on their skin.
They're not white, but I think the Fire Nation is based on Japan and they can be really light skinned.
>the Fire Nation is based on Japan
lolno. do you see them using katanas?
>man, what 20th century asian country industrialized first, made giant warships, and warcrimed their neighbors and now everyone hates them?
do you not know a single piece of world history?
It's Siam, not Japan
They're most closely based on Siam. Creators even admitted as much.
you can take from multiple cultures when you're inventing your own
Yeah but it's clear Siamese/Thai aesthetics had an overarching influence.
>He thinks a swimsuit is the same as a traditional garb.
That looks like a moon faced big lipped Asian to me
The Japanese draw some awful strange looking Asians, kids. They're up to something there.
Avatar was written and drawn and created entirely by whites, nerdy whites that went to mcdojos in the 2000s and shit, but it’s all whites. It was one of the first openly anime inspired western cartoons.

Mukokuseki is a cope. Blonde hair and blue eyes are an ethnically white traits. There's no way around this.
i agree with this. theyre anime people. theyre not asain or white. whenever they do a live action anime casting nips they always just look weird.
Reminds me of that old "guess who the main character is" anime meme that has an anime still of a girl with vibrant pink hair and a cat sidekick sitting at the back of a class filled with normal looking students
Frick off, instagay
Air = Tibetan
Water = Inuit
Earth = Chinese
Fire = Japanese
They look more like some sort of Eurasians. I can't pin point why they don't look full on Asian.
Azula the best waifu
Avatar was always primarily focused on Asian nations. Alexander the great army went there
That's moronic. Even as an 8 year old I knew the people in that show were Asian.
They're white. In 2023 it's racist cultural appropriation for a white guy to animate Asians and steal PoC stories.
What did she mean by this???
it wasn't his game
seems pretty straight forward
They're all fictional races
HUP!
I call them white, becaue it makes redditors cry.
There's Asian cultural, architectural and attire commonalities, that said a lot of characters have light eyes or hair and it's fun to make the /r/asianmascuinity types squirm.

Avatar sucks ass and i refuse to watch any episode of it.frick off back to Cinemaphile
This feels like it should be a ladder match.
I don’t know how to explain it.
Not white
But also not real life races either
Or was I supposed to think the blue eyed eskimos who speak Classical Chinese are meant to represent a real ethnicity?
They're supposed to be hapa
the only characters who seem like they're european white are the swamp waterbenders

Yes

they are unquestionably asian
half the cast is hapas at least
,.
they are undeniably asian
Are those 2 supposed to look similar?
What people they are meant to represent, or what their design is based upon is completely irrelevant; I just don’t want to see bugmen or nignogs in any major role in a live action remake. White people prefer to watch white people on the screen, is that so hard to understand?
They look like cartoon characters not real humans. Obviously the cultures/nations are very vaguely based on Asian cultures/nations.

They are by definition asian.
No, I meant Sub-Saharan Africans.

She and the other sailor guardians are clearly Japanese. Maybe try opening your eyes.
Random white cosplayers look exactly like azula While her asiatic netflix casting looks wrong.
Zuko's ugly casting also won't remind anyone of the character, but no one will admit why they feel that way.
>time in korea: 5 pm
oh, rice dick aznmasculinity is mad

Many japanese people are super white
ATLA had extremely moronic world design. Don't waste time thinking about it too much because the creators never did.
The creators are unironically massive morons and I have no idea why people think they'd make any new show better and not worse.
I refuse to believe that Ba Sing Se is 1/15th the size of a continent the size of Asia. That would be larger than any megacity on Earth which is all the more preposterous for a pre-industrial society like the Earth Kingdom in atla
Art style is reminiscent of anime. In anime white and asian people are often depicted with the same features.
all avatar nations culture-coded after asians, they all asians. which means if there's any other continents with white culture-coded nations they're all fricked
Come on, man. At least post the full picture.
God she's cute.
Sex with Water Tribe Girls!
Aang, Zuko and Azula look white
Mai and Ty Lee look asian
Sokka and Katara look polynesian
don't know anything about this series, but that nose looks very asian.
It's probably hard to make characters unique if they're all chinky eyed, black hair Japanese.
Why are you guys actually having a serious discussion about cultural counterparts in mythopoeic world of Avatar?
I thought we we're supposed to post cropped porn and talk about which character's feet we want to lick, as it goes in Avatar threads?
She's so hot
wait a minute that art
I'd rape Azula and let her rape me in return, to be quite honest tbh. While choking me, of course, at the apex of my ejaculation.
sexual domination by Assuka
